The stocks have recovered to 25% of what they were 100 years ago. Most tuna species are in danger of a population crash causing extinction. "Only when man has cut down the last tree and eaten the last fish will he realise he cannot eat money!"

The pressure on Bluefin populations is directly correlated to the demand. If someone is willing to pay 350,000 yen per kilo, you can bet your bottom dollar that someone else is more than willing to sell it to them.
If the Japanese consumer is willing to participate in a moratorium on buying and eating kuro maguro (even just a temporary one) the stocks of Atlantic Bluefin will almost certainly rebound and thrive.

Japans demand for Tuna is whats causing the decline in the first place, its continual indecision on quota reduction is whats damaging the ecosystem. And now Japan want to do the same to whaling. LOL Japans track record is proof they dont have the desire or will for marine conservation.

I smell a rat. yep Japan has a history of buying votes and bribing officials. Seems money cant buy every bodies obedience
Goodlucktoyou
morroco has a system to ban fishing for 4 months a year, so sardines can recover. unfortunately, spanish, south korean etc (usual suspects), illegally fish. given that factor, the fish can recover if there is a moratorium.
