They agreed to meet again. After telling her mom she was going to visit a sick girlfriend on her way to church choir practice, she climbed into the man’s minivan near her home in Depok, on the outskirts of Jakarta.

This poor, innocent Indonesian girl! Meets this older guy, falls for his smooth talking and goes through a living hell?? Parents in Indonesia better get on the ball and worry less about Lady Gaga and more of these online scum praying on younger, unsuspecting kids. IMHO

Yogi the Pedobear. This reminds me of the movie "Trust" which looked at online dating and rape. Only this is worse with human trafficking.

Great point Elbuda, this is a much bigger problem. These girls in Indonesia and other countries can be easy targets for these vicious Predators because they are so naive. As a start, The Government, The Education system, and Media should work hard to give out information of this dangerous situation.

Terrible world we live in isn't it. Predators are lurking in every corner of the cities of the world and Internet looking for all types of victims to abuse.

Maybe I don't understand technology that well, but don't Facebook, Twitter, and other major social networking sites have the ability to post warnings system-wide or at least state this warning in the sign-up process? If not, maybe these multi-billion dollar companies could invest some of their ridiculous profits in public service campaigns to make young women more aware of what to look out for!

These are the criminals Indonesia needs to hang. The lowest of the low and a threat to society. Hopefully the five other girls are rescued from these perverts.

Well, if pervs are stepping it up with the latest tools to exploit the young and the innocent, why aren't the cops hot on their heels using those same tools?

"Church"? Ah so she's Christian... in a majority Muslim nation.

That may well be a key element to this story, a religious element that both the Indonesian gov't and AP choose to suppress. (AP like most mainstream media doesn't even use the word "religion" in negative connotations, using "sectarian" instead.)

In Egypt, Iraq, Britain, etc., gangs of Muslim men have been arrested for kidnapping and grooming exclusively non-Muslim girls for sex. It's a fairly distinct pattern.

In Britain, the incidents involved hundreds of children and teenagers ("white girls"), but for a long time the British media and police refused to disclose details, until the Daily Mail decided to disclose the religious connection. The DM took a lot of flak for it at first, but hey, the story turned out to be true, while the politically correct, hypocritical Guardian and others have been forced to acknowledge it.

This AP story reminds me of the early, vague reports in Britain...before the truth was allowed to be disclosed.

We as parents, before were told to know what your kids were watching on tv, now forget the plain old tv! Make sure your kids are not chatting it up with sicko predetors! Before TV could make our kids brains into mush but NOW?? You never know what kind of sick and twisted animals are out there waiting for the slightest chance to attack!! IMHO

Thanks Vernie Jefferies! Lets make sure our kids are safe from wackos!

I am glad all my kids are grown up and now married. If I had kids again, oh dear, facebook is the first challenge as a parent.

More religious violence in Indonesia now. 14 dead, and the trigger was sexual assault against young women. The media, as usual, calls it "ethnic strife," but the combatants are devout believers of different religion. Hello? Think about it now. It's a VERY easy connection to establish.

It's amazing how people's brains cease functioning when it comes to religion.
