Facing new sanction threats, North Koreans defiant as ever

As far as I'm aware, North Korea invaded the South first. Having said that, her remarks about the US monopoly of nuclear weapons are not unreasonable

This is not indicative of how the average North Korean feels. The only quotes and interviews you will get are with officially sanctioned representatives of the North Korean government. Anyone stupid enough to speak out will dissapear pretty rapidly. Plus all of their family (people are sent to labour camps for their relatives mistakes).

Children are starving to death and living outside with the dogs. And that idiot spends any money they have on weapons and on himself.

This title means nothing.

The US does not have "a monopoly" on nuclear weapons. India, Pakistan, China, Russia, France, the UK and Israel all have nukes, as does North Korea.

It’s not right for the U.S. to tell our country not to have nuclear bombs, The U.S. has a lot of them and tells us not to have any. It’s not fair.

Empire? LOL If we were an Empire, Europe would be a greater part of that Empire as well as Canada. But that's only wishful thinking.

In Washington, of course, that position is seen as a non-starter. North Korea must, it claims, make the first move and dismantle its nuclear program.

That's funny, since a Washington insider arranged to sell NK nuclear technology that has lead to the present, advanced level we are seeing now.

Due to the freedom of information act, in 2002, it's been proven that while Donald Rumsfeld was a top board member of ABB, he arranged for sales of nuclear materials to be sold to NK in 2000. When he became secretary of defense, he suddenly condemned NK for having the very same nuclear technology which he sold them.

Is Washington truly concerned over a problem they helped create and advance or do they just want to use this as a tool to further their agenda?

Perhaps not a monopoly. That was an ill-chosen word. Certainly they have the largest stockpile in the world. That isn't in dispute

The biggest Empire in history I'm guessing. Economic, cultural, military.

Japan Times, may I make an honest suggestion? When photographs are included with a story could each photo be given either a caption or a side bar that explains what these photos are? Can I assume that the woman on the far left is Pak Mi Hyang? As for the others I can only guess. JT does a lot of good things on this website and I (and certainly others) appreciate them but photos and explanations would reallly move the news up a notch.

North Korea is and will always remain defiant as long as China continues to support and defend them.

"North Koreans" have no say in the matter. Whatever NK does and says is decided by the fat little dictator and his clan.

China needs to be held responsible for North Korea. That's the only way North Korea will ever change it's ways.

OssanAmerican: I agree that China should be partially held responsible for NK actions but don't you think America should also be held responsible for selling NK nuclear technology! Isn't the nuclear threat one of the biggest concerns, or is that just water under the bridge now?

The nuke restrictions for North Korea are imposed by the UN, including Russia and China.

And always remember, North Korea already admitted lying about it before when they agreed on a deal then intentionally continued it in secret despite agreeing to the deal.
