Even if the anti-French National Rally wins, it remains to be seen exactly what damage they can do or are willing to do to Ukraine's war effort with Macron still at the helm.

Disastrous day for the French and Macron carries the can for it.

-4 ( +12 / -16 )

This is fantastic news. Take back your country, French people.

-4 ( +18 / -22 )

The people of France have spoken.

They want peace in Europe.

The leftwing globalists are in panic mode, their spigot of billions flowing in corporate coffers for weapons is about to be turned off.

2 ( +17 / -15 )

The last few years have been punishing for people. They want rid of those that have been governing them so badly. Wise leaders bow out and offer voters a different leader from the same party to vote for (a common feature of Japanese politics). Not Macron (or Trudeau in Canada). Both clung on, despite having lost support. Macron has alienated almost every section of French society. His party really needed him to retire, but he stuck around to poison his own party's chances.

The UK is out of step with the EU because it had a right wing government when the EU had a centre left one. Brexit damaged the UK far more than EU leaders damaged their countries, so instead of a reduction in power, they will get wiped out. This indicates how much this is not really a right-wing or left-wing surge, but anger against the failing, sitting regimes. Unfortunately, with a soon-to-be centre left UK no longer in the EU, the EU may find itself to be increasingly a collection of right wingers. Nationalist parties may traditionally be antagonistic towards the concept of a federal EU and find it difficult to get along with other nationalists - the people they would normally blame when scapegoating. But by all scapegoating migrants, specifically muslim ones, and other minority groups, they may feel that they have enough common ground and enough power to make the EU work for them as a new pan-European Fourth Reich.

TL;DR: Move to Canada before it all kicks off again.

Let's make Europe great again!

Aah, so it comes full circle and the loop will be closed between Le Pen and Petain. Ideologically the same as the Vichy government. Open your eyes people...

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

The time has come for Mr. Macron to move on.

France is in shambles, it will never be the same again.

Inflation is drying up peoples wallets, people are working twice as hard and are unable to keep up.

The UK is no different and I pray that people across Europe will start holding their leaders accountable.

Even the far-right French politicians support Ukraine.

Good news for France.

Good news for Europe.

The arrogant and pompous Macron deserves every second of this humiliation.

"Take back your country France "

Lets forget the hundreds of years of colonialism, draining nations from North Africa to the Pacific.

How did France get wealthy....certainly not from innovation.

Raw materials stolen from colonies more like it.

Exactly right, and not just the French. Majority of people in EU want peace in Ukraine/ Europe.

True. Also, the majority of people in the EU support Ukraine.

Still MIC vested interests will continue prolonging the conflict for as long as possible$.

Proof?

In 2027. Jumping the gun much?

Cheers to cope. In any case, EU will continue to supply weapons to Ukraine for the time being so the continuation of the war which you constantly advocate for is assured for a while longer.

None of us advocate for a continuation of the war.

Yeah what did France ever do for humanity:

Analysis of results shows that it is unlikely that any of the three blocks can achieve an absolute majority, so it is going to be chaotic.

Don't be fooled by the RN. They made various demagogic promises and are already retracting most of them, knowing it would be totally impossible to implement them. Here are a few examples among many:

Lowering the retirement age from 64 to 60 (makes no sense as the country is aging like others).

No income tax for those under 30.

Blocking prices of daily goods (like in a communist country).

Ending dual nationality.

Their leader, Bardella, is 28 years old and has no political experience. He didn't attend college, which is evident in debates where he lacks technical knowledge. He seems more like a product launched on TikTok, primarily due to his good looks. While I don't deny that he has some talent, he is simply too young and inexperienced for the job of prime minister which is a really tough one.

Excellent news!

France for the French!

-4 ( +10 / -14 )

As it should be.

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

"France for the French ".

What a laugh.

France ALREADY a multicultural country.

Do you think every French man rides on a bike, carrying a baggette and wears a beret ?

And, the French complain about being "overrun by foreigners.

No...not the dusky skinned ones from Africa or Arab/Muslim countries.

The French complain about the numbers of "foreigners " from Italy , Spain, and Portugal.

These are the countries from which newcomers to France come from .And I bet all the "France for the French boosters here , HAVE NEVER BEEN TO FRANCE !!!.

OK Frenchies...the next time your country is invaded dont rely on distant nations like Australia and America to win the war for you.

Deal ?

Europe's far-right is decent and acceptable, they're not savages like MAGA gang..

So what’s the difference? Let’s have a debate or that’s not allowed in a true democracy?

I'll wager the European far right is not proud of its anti-intellectualism and doesn't have guns to cling to. Also their Christianity has an actual history behind it.

Le Penn will make Trump look like a pussy if she is in charge.

They don’t need guns. They have other things at their disposal, plus they have the people.

Also their Christianity has an actual history behind it.

As does ours, where do you think it came from?

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

The mainstream media squealing "far-right" indicates the voters are both right and correct.

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

Le Penn will make Trump look like a pussy if she is in charge.

Not even remotely close, but I will say to your point, she will be hawkish like Trump when it comes to migrants, that is not a bad thing.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

It's too late anyway. And considering that they will even massively shrink in the second round of the election as all others united oppose, it's getting even later for France. They just still wake or woke up much too late, so this is a nice final try, but useless.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Let’s see how the ‘horse trading’ goes. The second round is where it really counts.

In previous Presidential elections there have been successful mobilizations against Le Pen.

From what I’ve read, parliamentary elections are a bit more complicated.

Any influence outside France? Will be interesting to see how Farage’s party/company does in the election across the channel on Thursday.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

In the past, Le Penn had won several times in the First round.

The election is gamed to squeeze out the Far Right in the Second round.

Now with the Centrists in third place I wonder if the Left and Centrists will join together like the past and squeeze out Le Penn.

Times have changed and maybe Le Penn party might thrive.

Le Penn's political experiences and beliefs are built on fascism. Look who her father was. Trump is not that.

I know.

No, you’re right, but they both take a very aggressive stance when it comes to migrants and illegals. The more Europe keeps being in record number of migrants, the more the country will shift right. It’s happening already, the left doesn’t get it, they are on borrowed time.

Le Penn's philosophy and politics go well beyond immigration. The Italian PM Meloni can not reach an agreement with her. They differ on many points.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

RN will effectively control the purse strings, which limits what Macron can achieve in his foreign policy foolishness. He is essentially a lame duck.

The French, as most Europeans do, want a focus on the home front.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Le Pen does not support NATO.

"French far-right leader Marine Le Pen on Wednesday backed closer ties between NATO and Russia, adding that if she won the presidency Paris would once again leave the military command of the US-led alliance. "

https://www.france24.com/en/france/20220413-le-pen-wants-france-out-of-nato-integrated-command-backs-nato-russia-links

Le Pen supports a big government.

Le Pen would not block a Brexit-style referendum on whether France should pull out of the European Union.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

I too had encounters with far right zeno-phoones. While mainly being creepy they have been non-violent. How long this will be is anyone's guess. Meanwhile, I am avoiding France.
