Fauci says early reports encouraging about Omicron variant

At last some good news, I think....

wo years into the outbreak, COVID-19 has killed over 780,000 Americans, and deaths are running at about 860 per day.

To me, the above info shows Covid 19 has been more than just another flu. But then I know people who were killed by it, and others who have long term Covid. The pandemic deniers/anti-vaxxers and the media that have enabled them have played roles in making things worse for everyone; as have those in leadership positions who early on surrendered the battles against the virus, some because they were more interested in their golf games and their persona bank accounts.

At last some good news, I think....

Yeah, those who have other medical problems might need hospitalization. Healthy people will do fine, and are probably more likely to be hospitalized due to the vaccine... which doesn't even match the Omicron variant...

There is a huge difference from getting data analyzed professionally before saying something and just repeating whatever you want to be true without any basis.

That is false, with all previous variants healthy young people have been hospitalized, had important health problems or died. If a large number of cases appear thanks to a more transmissible variant it will mean this situation will continue, and if the hospitalization increase above what the health system can hold that would mean some of those patients that would have become hospitalizations will turn into deaths instead.

There is exactly zero evidence that would put hospitalizations by omicron below the extremely rare serious side effects from the vaccine, that is just fantasy based exaggerations.

The virus is everywhere. It moves and mutates faster than we can track it. The latest dominate variant is showing less virulence. We are led to believe that still not enough people are vaccinated so this is most likely in spite of vaccination. The notion that highly transmissible viruses evolve less lethality is a fairly commonplace understanding. This was predicted early in 2020 when the high rate of transmission and low mortality was observed.

Look at all the words used that can be "walked back" later as not what he said any data or facts in there? sounds like wish washy opinion to me.

Indeed. It's almost as if the people saying "don't get vaccinated, Covid is nothing, don't worry about contracting a disease that has killed millions" don't know what they're talking about.

I wear a mask occasionally, sanitise my hands no more than I always did, don't bother with social distancing given that if we're all wearing masks and sanitised then it's not necessary, and haven't had/won't be getting, any of the 'vaccines', and I "haven't had a sniffle since covid hit" either! I guess my immunity system is just doing its job! Isn't science weird?

So basically still get the “scare” from the virus being transmitted all over the place to support the mandates.

America hardly had any mandates in the first place, and the ones they did were weak. That's why America's covid response was a colossal failure in every state, even the ones that did good when only compared to the rest of America.

Travel bans and vaccines do nothing to prevent transmission.

They've been in agreement about taking the vaccine since March. Fauci has been saying it a lot longer though.
