The stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me. Maybe it will some day. Maybe not. If guns are banned in the U.S., people will just find something else to kill each other with. It's not the gun's problem. People who are in prison for shooting another person or who are una-bomber crazy should not legally be allowed to own guns. You and I know they'll find a way to get their hands on a gun anyway. It's not the guns. It's our culture that's dangerous.

instead of a AK47 you should really look at the VZ58 first -and consider getting a CZ52 (in the heavy hitting Tok 7.62x25!!) to pair with it.

The 50Cal is really overkill when you have the Lapua .338

I guess kids don't buy the Red Rider BB gun anymore.

You really should get out more (but leave the guns at home).

Is it me, or does this all come down to an argument between grown ups and a bunch stuck in permanent adolescence (who all happen to have been born in one particular country)?

Are Bible sales up too?

Yes - After all, you need something to check that stopping power on.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why would a terrorist be against guns?

ha ha, good one Caveman.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Are Bible sales up too?

Yes, especially the kind with a gun shaped hole in the pages.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Are Bible sales up too?

Nah. They give one away with the purchase of a new shotgun and box of shells.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I myself believe in gun control. I do not believe anyone should be allowed to buy an AK 47 or any other type of military arsenal.

I hope that one day these types of weapons are taken off the streets and out of the hands of the nutz.

"The Turner Diaries" Read that piece of crap. This book is was and will be a Nazi dream.

I wouldn't be surprised to see another raft of gun control laws being pushed through. Though there are quite a few conservative dems would wouldn't support them, I doubt many of them would stand up to Pelosi and Reid.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You have mentioned it numerous times on JT

Best get used to it, because from your reaction, I plan on doing it a lot more.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The boom in guns sales described by the media just happens to coincide with hunting season. Geez, you think there might be a connection there?

I doubt any new legislation will be coming from the federal side - the states that still allow gun show sales between private parties without background checks can eliminate that through their own legislation. The federal government can help by providing more money to U.S. Attorneys to prosecute "straw sales" and unlicensed dealing.

Fears of a Democrat crackdown lead to boom in gun sales

Take out the Righty's irrational hatred of Democrats and Liberals, and what do you get?

"Fears lead to boom in gun sales"

Fear rules these boobs. Boy I'd like to talk to them in a year or two time when they wake up to an America where they still got their guns and religion, and maybe even health care to boot.

What fools these Righty's be. -- Shakespeare

Funny, because that is EXACTLY the way it is here in Japan. Only the outlaws have guns. Yet, so little gun crime here. Odd, isn't it?

Washington DC has had the strictest gun laws in the country for 32 years and yet it has one of the highest gun crime rates. Odd, isn't it? Actually, it makes perfect sense. Why don't you think about it for a while and you'll understand why comparing the US to Japan is nonsensical.

Ah men. Silly macho boys with little weenies.

YangYong - I sure hope you're a woman because I'd hate to think there are men this feminized here. :-D

wolfpack says,

I guess we now know why small town American's 'cling to their guns and religion', big brother Barack is coming to take their constitional rights so that's all they have left to believe in.

What an interesting observation about your constitutional rights. Did you feel the same way when the patriot act was rolled out or was that for your own good?

So...the only time you feel the terrorist's rights to own weapons in America should be impeded is when they talk about it on the phone. Is that a correct assumption? That seems to be you're headed.

You guys are funny.

So which do you shoot down first, with your .50 cal sniper rifle, when the government comes for you the F16 or the nuclear missile?

Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

In Japan, they worry about running out of toilet paper in hard times. But if you don't have a good weapon when the $%&# hits the fan in America, God help you. So bravo (!) stock up little children.

Even gun-less Japanese just gotta marvel at supply and demand & the law of unintended consequences. How juicy!

ImperiumMundi Sigh, some sort of gun control is the least thing to worry about. You probably thought it was fine and dandy when Bush didn't follow the constitution, google it, but now the new president can just follow along after Bush and it will only get worse. I get a bad feeling the the last act of Bush will be some sort of world currency announced next month and ran by the same clowns that dug the hole to start with. Yes, I was a harsh critic of Bush, and I think it was justified and I do believe all governments need to be constantly questioned and held accountable. We will see how Obama does but he may have a bit too much power thanks to the erosion of rights under Bush and it looks like his masonic following will shut down all criticisms. I'm taking a wait and see approach but you didn't say anything "when they came for your neighbor."

That's right, folks! Buy `em up while you're still able, because the President-elect has gun control, gun control, and more gun control as a part of his social agenda. Bye-bye, USA: it was good knowin' ya!!!!!

On the other hand, when a town in the South voted to require everyone to own a gun, crime dropped to nothing.

ha ha ha ... who was left alive to record the statistics? or report the dramatic increase in gun related deaths? both accidental and intentional? people were probably getting shot, while they were getting shot ... ha ha ha. maybe obama should pass a law, requiring every american able to pull a trigger to carry a gun. then let's see if the crime rate drops to nothing. note to canadians and mexicans: if that day ever comes, close the borders and tune into CNN while hilarity ensues ... ha ha ha.

Common sense is if you outlaw guns, then only the outlaws will have guns.

Funny, because that is EXACTLY the way it is here in Japan. Only the outlaws have guns. Yet, so little gun crime here. Odd, isn't it?

Well, actually no. What gun nuts like to overlook is the mechanisms by which those guns flow into the hands of outlaws. That happens chiefly via a middle man, the very law abiding citizens you want to arm. In fact, a great many law abiding citizens buy guns and become outlaws themselves. Imagine if we never armed them!

Reducing the overall number of guns reduces the overall number of gun crimes and gun deaths. The logic is sound and at the elementary school level. Accept it.

Now, maybe other crimes will go up some. So what? I would rather be robbed twice than robbed and shot once. Who wouldn't?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Let them have guns, let them eat lead coz then they'll be more of those idiots dead. Once they are gone, buried and cold, it is us, the gunless, who will live to be old. Ah men. Silly macho boys with little weenies.

My sister, who was a McCain supporter, told me she's going on family assistance as soon as she can because Obama will raise the tax rate to 100%. Uh, yeah.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

smitty, for what its worth, you shouldn't be using the "majority" word. If the so called majority voted against something you wanted, you would be acting the same way as those you are criticizing.

There are times I really could careless what the majority wants and that has been my point all along - don't come into my house and tell me what to do or what to believe in. No, I am not saying you are not welcomed in my house, you just can't try to replace my wife as boss!

Only for those who like the disasters GWB and the republican party caused, sargie. Fortunately, the majority don't, which is why they lost both the White House and a majority in both houses... haha.

RRII: NC is indeed now a blue state, but there are still a lot of morons everywhere in America who are so scared stiff by anything that they feel they're not safe without arming themselves to the teeth with unnecessary guns.

The sooner guns are banned in the US, the better. Until they are, don't cry if someone in your family accidentally offs themselves, or don't wonder how there's such easy access to guns if someone else offs them.

“We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded,” sayeth obama.

This line of though fits well with obama's collectivist agenda of, "We know better than you what happiness you should pursue." Russia 1917 and Germany 1933 saw the same stuff.

See, he is already helping the economy.

So, I ask again, since you can't honestly answer (perhaps someone else can), what kind of a (sick) society spawns children who want guns at the age of 10?"

A very nutty and sick society, I have admitted it. That's kind of the reason I want to keep a gun. Had my dad not been like you, I truly believe he would be alive to this day. Instead he just put his hands up in the air. We told him millions of times to carry something - he refused and met a faith I prefer not to meet myself. Get rid of the crime, I mean the mentality then not only will I cheer alongside of you, but I will fund you too.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

She taught her 4 year old to shoot?

Look, I believe in the right to bare arms (unlike, it would seem, a lot of the posters here). There is nothing wrong with owning a gun, as long as you now how to use it with responsibility. Gun liscencing and mandatory firearms training seem like good ideas to me. But teaching a 4-year old to shoot? That doesn't strike me as a particularly good idea, even if you already have guns in the house.

Please don't assume that most, or even many, gun owners are like this nut. And no, I don't own a gun.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sarge: "The measures the "moron" has taken has resulted in ZERO attacks on U.S. soil despite all the terrorists' efforts."

You mean after 9/11, of course, the worst ever terrorist attacks on US soil, if I'm not mistaken. Now.... on who's watch did that happen? I also recall a few other steps a certain moron took after that, including at least ONE illegal invasion, and shielding Obama's family from danger, etc.

Now, you're going to say a certain moron's polices were a good thing? HAHAHAha! They enSURED that there are more terrorists and a greater hatred than ever towards the US. Unfortunately, Obama is going to have to clean up all of bush's mess. One mess, not necessarily bush's, though he didn't help, is cleaning up the utter lack of regulations for firearms. If it troubles people that they will have a harder time buying rocket launchers and uzis for personal use, then said people are simply troubled themselves.

Imperium: And the sooner your own country and its citizens start asking THEMSELVES the same question instead of always having outsiders have to point out the lunacy of 'gun control' in the US, the sooner you can reduce the gun-related deaths from more than 10,000/year.

Imperium: "what kind of society spawns the sort of rube who would read the story byline and the first quote and not smile at the likelihood of just a little liberty being taken by the writer?"

The same kind of rube that would simply cut and paste the first line of someone's post and try to completely spin it out of context, my friend.

I read the entire article, and am not at all in the wrong for criticising the woman that the author of the article chose to open with. Ms. Smith is a real person, believe it or not, and she is like many other gun enthusiasts as spoken about in the lines following the opening, stocking up on unnecessary lethal weapons because of paranoid delusion and irrational fear. I just hope we don't read about Ms. Smith's son having blown his head off and her screaming "Why did this happen?? I swore I locked the gun facility at the side of our house!" on New Year's Day.

So, I ask again, since you can't honestly answer (perhaps someone else can), what kind of a (sick) society spawns children who want guns at the age of 10?

I know it's a tough one to tackle, but don't try to avoid the question of your moronic gun-loving culture by twisting the argument into some silly question instead of an answer.

This defies logic. What is it with the US and guns? How many guns will offset the paranoia that is a national disease in the United States? Do these people really see threats around every corner in addition to the commies under the bed.

Don't get wrong? I was bought up in an environment in which guns were used extensively - for hunting. I have also played war for real. However, this national pre-occupation with carrying arms in the US is something I just cannot understand. I know that their is a constitution right to bear arms, however, I am inclined to believe that the article in question was drawn up when the very existence of the US was in peril. Who do these nutjobs fear now?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

In my home state you have to be 12 and have to attend a gun safty course to hunt or use a gun... Guns dont kill people do, just like knives, box cutters, cars, and bombs....

so switzerland is a gun hungry killing everyone country?

The gun policy in Switzerland is unique in Europe. The personal weapon of militia personnel is kept at home as part of the military obligations. This, in addition to liberal gun laws and strong shooting traditions, has led to a very high gun count per capita.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Smitty, Actually, I wasn't much older than 10 when I received my first gun, a 4-10 shotgun. That said, I went through a course in gun safety and had to pass a test on how to walk with a rifle and/or shotgun, how to cross a fence, how to load and unload it and how to store it safely. I'm pretty sure that the entire thing was put on by the community and was not law, but...the lessons learned there stick with me to this day. I don't think it would be a bad idea to make those lessons mandatory, much like the test we must pass in order to drive a car. And I absolutely think that background checks are a good idea too. What if said person was a violent felon, or (gasp) a terrorist? I guess taking measures to protect us from them nasty terrorists are only considered valid if if they come from a moron and not a well educated person. Amazing, is it not?

Taka

0 ( +0 / -0 )

rjd: Didn't such a measure pass in D.C, even though many there wanted to keep guns for protection due to the high crime rate?

Smitty, you hit the nail on the head - The US is a very, very sick nation" which is one reason why I like carry a gun, especially when driving. I told you before, I don't think I would see you in places where I would go to either see relatives, friends, and especially my staff. Some of these people live in neighborhoods where you would crazy not to carry some sort of protection. Sorry but I am ain't no Bruce Lee and when in those places I ain't as intimidating as I would be in your neighborhood.

If you want the US to be gun free, then Obama or whoever is going to have to do one hell of a job in reducing crime - that is driving the need for guns. While people like yourself put your energy and time into deciding what punishment is too harsh and debating why guns should not be owned legally, you don't do a think about the killings constanly going on by people who could care less whether there is a gun or not. You bought up cases where a kid was killed at a show, but you refused to put up cases where kids are being killed in drive bys - why do you not want that info to be out?. You hide any info on ex-cons coming out of jail who then shoot an innocent kid trick or treating. No, instead you find you must say gun and not criminal, who mind you obtained an AK-47 in a state where such guns are banned.

Like the bans I called for will never work, neither will the banning of guns. As I said, ban them, I'll still be able to get my hands on one and I would even be able to do that in your country as well.

when it comes to gun-loving and the lack of gun control in general, and I do indeed hope Obama reigns things in.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So I guess that 'clinging to guns and religion' comment Pres. Elect Obama made wasn't very far off the mark. I'm sure the next article we read will be about scared folk flocking to their churches to take shelter from the Obama administration...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Since when has anyone in America took guns away from its citizens (outside of criminals). San Francisco tried to pass an initiative banning guns in the city but it was shot down.

Just another excuse for people to buy guns, guns, and more guns (because they are needed for the coming rotschild illuminati world war 4, or whatever the conspiracy nuts call it).

"Does this mean I won’t get a new gun for Christmas?"

What kind of a society spawns children who want guns at the age of 10? The US is a very, very sick nation when it comes to gun-loving and the lack of gun control in general, and I do indeed hope Obama reigns things in. As well as putting strict controls on sales of firearms, he should pass legislation requiring ALL firearms to be registered and kept locked up in the house. Finally, he should ban all gun shows/circuses like the one in which the 9 year old boy shot himself in the face with an uzi last week!

What this kid needs are some non-lethal toys, and a very good heart-to-heart about how wrong guns are. The mom? evidently she needs a good slap to bring her back to reality and putting, not protecting, her 10 year old child in jeopardy.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

the cuts to military spending will not effect the number of soldiers. it will reduce/eliminate wasteful expenditure and backroom chrony-ism (read: dick cheney/haliburton). sarge, maybe you would like to read/re-read mr. obama's proposal again.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

all we really know at this point is that obama will say anything.

i don't blame people for thinking his administration will find a way to impose a ban on the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns.

obama is on record, albeit in 1996, for saying he supports such a measure.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhL8aeIsTEo&NR=1

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Another reason for the boom in gun sales is we may need them to defend ourselves as Barack slashes our Armed Forces.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I would like common people to have guns to protect them from the government. Many of you were too young, but right on the other side of my mom's house, in horror, all of us got to see how they took Elian. Like flamming Nazis they came in, guns pointed at faces, hair was pulled.

I can tell you this, the next time a government decides they need to go to those measures in our community (see, Cubans usually vote Repub, which is one reason why Clinton and Janet Reno sent in SWATS) they are going to face a not so nice welcoming committee.

Go ahead ban guns, we will be able to get them faster and cheaper and won't have anything on the backs linking us to a shooting.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama has said he respects Americans’ Second Amendment right to bear arms, but that he favors “common sense” gun laws. Gun rights advocates interpret that as meaning he’ll at least enact curbs on ownership of assault and concealed weapons.

Gun rights advocates fear common sense?

The president of a Montana gun manufacturer stepped down last month after word that he supported Obama led to calls for a boycott of the company.

Apparently so.

I don't see what's wrong with having background checks in order to purchase a gun. Hell, we let the govt. tap our phones in the event we are criminals, yet buying the tools of crime, and even terrorism, must be protected in secrecy? WTF?

Yep, that's a fear and hatred of common sense all right.

Taka

0 ( +0 / -0 )

no one knows for sure where obama stands on guns or a number of big issues.

people are fearful. people are going to buy guns.

it's a democracy. voting is not the sole way of making your preferences known.

investors are going to keep their cash on the sidelines.

small businesses will deal with unreasonable, rapacious taxes by letting go of their young, inexperienced (and largely democrat) employees.

dems are already making noises about confiscating workers' 401 retirement accounts and letting social security "manage" them.

this will only strengthen the belief that the gov't wants to limit your freedom.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Republican fearmongering.

That would be like preaching to the choir my friend. So many gun owners and prospective owners are just plain fearful paranoid people, and so many of them are Republicans. Democrats have them too, but I beleive the Republican ones to be of greater number. --Cirroc

So Grandma, do you want a 357, or 50cal?
