Ferguson on edge ahead of grand jury decision

This could be as bad as the Rodney King riots. I sincerely hope not.

Civility anyone! Human rights and civil rights are base on the civility of the law, and not emotions.

Federal grand juries are people taken from lists such as propery ownership or registration. They sit for about a year, and a prosecutor tells them “you are going to want to hear this,” or “you are not interested in this one.” It legitimizes the legal process of bringing federal charges, which are often more severe at the penalty phase – federal prison vs state penitentiary. This case was not a federal grand jury, however the purpose is similar. In this case, the jury is not sitting for a full year hearing stuff they will never remember again. It is one case, and one grand jury, whose purpose is to indict, not convict. That will be a different jury, when it probably will result in a manslaughter conviction.

Just WAITING for the NEXT EXCUSE to run around like a bunch of animals, stealing, beating, distroying anything, in the name of " Justice ".

When The US Attorney General has a 'particular' interest in this case as well as the POTUS, likely an accurate review would have been made if not bias considering the overwhelming media pressure to charge this man. iF officer Wilson in not charged their must have been strong evidence he acted justly. The mass media, Hollywood, and the tax cheat race hustling Al Sharpton will continue to protest injustice! It's not likely they would apologize for their oversight.

IF Wilson will be charged their was a bit of defensive evidence which has taken weeks to sift through. Clearly not the street execution as the mass media and Reverand Al would have wanted us to believe.

As for the protestors, do they really think the destructive, violent behavior will benefit their image in law enforcement? Wouldn't you focus more on the unruly as opposed to the less unruly!

I have some friends in that community who are peace-loving and level-headed. Most communities have Deceptive Dereks who cannot wait to perform some kind of pernicious deed. Let's all hope that Justice WILL prevail!

As for Washington, Jefferson and the other revolutionists, do they really think the violent, destructive behavior will benefit their image with the Redcoats? You don't believe these citizens have valid injustices being visited upon them as part of a system? That they are just expected to lay back and take it?

I've been doing some brushing up on the history and operational theories (principles) of grand juries. Yes, in principle their purpose is to defend citizens from charges leveled at them by their government. But, historically, government officials themselves -- especially those who exercise power on behalf of it, like military and militia forces -- did not qualify for grand jury protection. The concept being that a police officer who uses lethal force against a citizen is already acting on behalf of government, and asserting that they should require "protection" from that same government is a perversion of the intent.

The perversion here is that the citizen -- Michael Brown -- was deprived of his life, and multiple eyewitnesses attest that we was fleeing and then trying to surrender, should be given at least the same protections of due process as the person who killed him in the street.

What it ends up doing is having one group of citizens, guided by a government official (the DA), rubber-stamping abuse committed against another group of citizens by the government. That's pretty messed up.

That is a very ignorant assumption. This "evidence" you are talking about: Who presented it? Was it subjected to expert testimony under cross-examination? It's also ignorant because of the trend that fewer than 2% of grand juries overturn a recommendation made to them by the D.A. They are a secret tribunal made up of citizens who are not legal experts, and therefore can be very easily led -- and the stats prove it.

If the Wilson decision turns out to be one of those in the 2% that does produce a charge, there must have been very compelling evidence that he was in the wrong. So much depends on the integrity of the D.A., and this one -- having very close working relationships with the county's police offices -- can hardly be considered unbiased.

A large part of the wait was mostly likely the time required for the results of forensic tests to be completed. It would not have taken "weeks" to "sift through." This is not a complicated case at all. The event took less than two minutes with multiple eyewitnesses -- of various backgrounds -- looking on. Based on what the traumatized witnesses have related, it was indeed far more an execution by an out-of-control cop than it was his acting in self-defense. He was the hunter -- having pursuing Brown -- when the fatal shots were fired.

One could just as easily speculate that the grand jury is carefully reviewing all of the possible charges, trying to determine which, if any, best applies to this event. The lines between some of them can be somewhat blurred, and these are not legal experts. (Nor is the D.A. doing anything to help them in that; early on, he decided not to recommend any charges at all.)

Not to mention, adding to that Holder and Sharpton didn't help the situation at all, but only increased tensions and now you have extreme groups like the New Black Panther party and the KKK that will be present and this thing could get ugly real fast
