As they are so gun loving why don't they take it to the logical conclusion. Legally require every person to carry a gun when out of their home, including the children. After all the more guns the safer you are, right?

Bottom line: We give up our guns, we say goodbye to our liberty and say hello to tyranny.

This is Texas. We don't run and hide. Never have. Never will. . . .

We don't run and hide. You think so? I bet you a billion dollars, that every kid, teacher, ran and hid, in ever mass shooting. Not because of some stupid philosophy, but because its the smart clever thing to do.

As for goodbye to liberty, I don't see any of the other great democracies saying the same thing at banning guns.

As for tyranny, I think millions live in fear of everyone one, People fear the police, not because of the job they do, but because they may get shot, fear of your neighbours, fear in schools. It may not be Tyranny by a dictator, but it is fear because of the second amendment and the dogma behind it.

The is America.

9/11 happens and a country and others go to war.

Kids are killed by fellow Americans every month, and all you'll get is thoughts and prayers.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

As long as we allow civilians to possess military weapons this is what we will have. It’s horrible but the NRA owns the Republican Party and they would rather see kids killed and offer “ thoughts and prayers “ than do anything that will actually stop this.

10 ( +17 / -7 )

Bottom line: We give up our guns, we say goodbye to our liberty and say hello to tyranny.

You’ve long since lost the former, and you voted for the latter.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

Having lived in Texas on and off for the last 50 years I can say that the reason you do not hear many calls for change in US guns laws is because, us Texicans, can handle it.

Can innocent kids in schools ‘handle it’?

9 ( +11 / -2 )

Because they don't go around shooting people. It's not about the guns.

Which implies that the problem is the people. Unfortunately, Americans can't go back in time and be raised properly, like other countries' people. Other countries' people, such as the Japanese, have been raised to respect each other, to the point where they know they don't need a gun to make them feel safe. Unfortunately in America, they need their guns to make them feel safe, since there is a severe lack of respect and common sense. Thus, conservatives are so afraid of change and can never take the logical step of taking guns out of the hands of so many Americans who lack any sense of decency towards each other.

Red States: where guns are more important then kids' lives.

6 ( +12 / -6 )

The psycho of social life in USA to possess gun is for safety and that means it is safe, to kill first or you'll be killed. It's like training in military service to be prepared to any war. That's the image of USA life. Isn't that insane?

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Of course few are going to complain or call for reform, folks in the US are immune to the bloodshed and don't care enough to make necessary changes.

People continue to point fingers, misinterpret the law, make claims about their "rights" but in the end, it just happens again and again and again and again, a never ending cycle.

Yet another mass murder at a school. The killer used daddy's guns to do it. Welcome to NRA nation, where gun sensibility rides at the back of the bus. Meet the gun scum who support the NRA and threaten legislators who support necessary restrictions of firearms ("Your time is running out" says one NRA ad) and insult school shoot survivors, like Oliver North's attacks on the Parkland survivors. I know "gun scum" is name-calling. It is uncouth yet reasonable to call evil people names. What would you call a racist who goes into a Black church and shoots up the congregation? What would call people who are responsible for the promiscuous proliferation of guns in the US? So I release "gun scum" and hope it flies. And perhaps saves lives.

The killer claims to have been bullied. So he took a shotgun and a handgun at school and killed ten people. He did not need an AR-15 to do. That's how helpless schools are.

There are bullied children in Japan. But what happened at Santa Fe High School would not likely happen in Japan. If daddy owned guns he would be required by law to keep both the ammunition and the firearms under lock and key.

It Japan you can go to school and not worry about being gunned down. This is not a privilege. It is as natural as the air we breathe.

My condolences to Santa Fe High School. May have the power to bring sensible gun reform to the United States, which is long overdue.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

I want to LOL over this because I am just so over the USA's nonsense. But yeah, not really an LOL moment this time. Honestly, Japan decriminalizing marijuana is more likely than gun laws changing in the USA. No one is screaming to abolish the 2nd amendment (okay maybe a few are, but most arnt). They are saying lets just change the laws and gun culture we have. na na na na na na na na na na na, not listening!

5 ( +6 / -1 )

his is Texas. We don't run and hide. Never have. Never will. . . .

And I guess the . . . . at the end of the sentence means you are no longer with us, just another victim of gun violence in the US.

Having lived in Texas on and off for the last 50 years I can say that the reason you do not hear many calls for change in US guns laws is because, us Texicans, can handle it.

Only said by someone who has never lost a loved one in a shooting. To someone who lives outside of "Texas" you have no idea how ludicrous you sound when you say something like this.

Better that Trump build a wall around Texas if folks there think like you do, be safer for the rest of us, and you can feel free to knock off all the people you want, so long as it doesnt come over the wall!

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Only two children survived. However, this incident may only incidentally be considered a school "shooting" because only the teacher was shot, while the other nine victims were killed with melee weapons. "

It's not the fault of the weapons! Lest we forget!

Fact is the overwhelming majority of American's dont give a crap about these school shootings. Because it "never" happens to them, it's always somewhere else, or someone else's problem. It's all talk, talk, talk, talk, alligator tears, more talk, until the next time!

My heart goes out to all the victims families and loved one's.

Until the next time.....American's you really dont give a shite, if you did, you'd put your money where your mouth is and do something. Hypocrites.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Texas: Bottom line: We give up our guns, we say goodbye to our liberty and say hello to tyranny.

A lot of murdered children seems like an unfair fair price to pay in exchange for lowering your stress levels about Donald Trump potentially invading your home with the army.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

That they are Trump supporters. Trump is also an admirer or both Putin and Xi Jinping. Trump supporters tried to Photoshop a Hillary 2016 hat on Dimitrios Pagourtzis. Proof that Trump supporters are very bad people because they want the kids themselves to arm themselves

Right, just how ignorant do people want to continue to be? These school shootings and mass murders predate Trump by a long shot. To make the statements that it's HIS fault or the NRA is just plain stupidity!

It's ALL America's fault! ALL American's have to look in the mirror and say NO MORE. But they can't.

So just get yourselves ready for the next one!

4 ( +4 / -0 )

YubaruToday  06:59 pm JST

It's ALL America's fault! ALL American's have to look in the mirror and say NO MORE. But they can't.

So collective guilt rather than holding people who have power and influence accountable? Doesn't seem like an effective way to pursue change.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

but going about the liberal Marxist way is not the answer

This is not a thing. Are you getting confused with libertarian Marxism? That which seeks a break with the state and the capitalist system?

I suppose it may put and end to guns as a currency and commodity, which may be a good thing.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Then None of you need to make any negative comments about guns or that we shouldn’t have them if that is true.

In Japan?

It was back in the 80's where you started to get a feel about the cynicism in students. Mass cheating. Poor respect for teachers. Many knew their school would pass them anyway, even if their grades weer low, to maintain the school's status.

There are many places in the world where there is far worse cheating in schools than the US, also places where there is a lack of respect for teachers by students. In many countries around the world, schools pass students regardless of their grades to maintain the school's status. And yet it is only in the US where students frequently become spree killers and murder in schools.

Instead of appealing to imaginary concepts like "psychic darkness", if you actually want to solve this problem you need to search for the operative variable that exists in the US but doesn't in other schools around the world.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Arm the schools, install metal detectors, have only one way of entry during school hours.

Good luck getting a few hundred, if not thousand, students through one way of entry every day, multiple times of the day. Kids are going to miss half the day just waiting to get into the school.

And that's until some moron realizes he can just go shoot up all the kids waiting in line to get into school.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Arm the schools, install metal detectors, have only one way of entry during school hours.

Trump followers think that metal detectors and armed guards grow on trees. Just like Mexican border walls

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Exactly what common sense laws would have prevented this kid from getting his hands on his dad's shotgun & revolver?

A law that wouldn't allow his dad to have guns?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Can you get to the President?

The NRA can quite easily it seems. Just takes a few million dollars and boom, he's on the payroll.

Build a bigger fence, send in armed police and install metal detectors.

A Gitmo in every neighbourhood, how quaint, MAGA etc

Then assign either police or another private security company to do the job.

Who's signing that cheque then?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Personally I don’t think things are going to change in the US for quite a while, if at all.

In relation to this incident I’ll admit I don’t have all the facts however if the firearms weren’t registered to him were they at least stored securely? It’s pretty much a given here (and required by law) that they should be stored in an unloaded condition with ammunition separate.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

America is returning to the days of the wild wild west.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

The overwhelming majority of Americans, including NRA members, want to see common sense gun laws. Unfortunately, the NRA leadership control the GOP, and the GOP controls the American government.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

That they are Trump supporters. Trump is also an admirer or both Putin and Xi Jinping. Trump supporters tried to Photoshop a Hillary 2016 hat on Dimitrios Pagourtzis. Proof that Trump supporters are very bad people because they want the kids themselves to arm themselves.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Bottom line: We give up our guns, we say goodbye to our liberty and say hello to tyranny.

That sounds similar to what others have written in the past. "only with guns can the whole world be transformed", said a Chinese Marxist, but probably not one of bass4funk's mysterious liberal Marxists. And back around the same time as the 2nd Amendment was introduced, Robert Burns wrote the following stirring lines (but probably with reference to battle axes and not guns):

"Lay the proud usurpers low / Tyrants fall in every foe / Liberty's in every blow / Let us do or die"

I think you need to be clearer of your notions of liberty and tyranny. For example, if the police come to arrest you (or your neighbor even) for some illegal activity such as making alcohol or standing naked at your front window or adding a bypass to your car's muffler, are you going to start shooting? And would your reaction be different if they came to take your gun? There are thousands of laws and ordinances in Texas saying what you must and mustn't do. And there are thousands locked up in prisons. There seems to be no general reluctance to restrict liberty. Why the preoccupation with guns?

Personally, I feel safer having a big Maglite at hand. (OK, I admit I think it looks more manly too.)

2 ( +2 / -0 )

"To say that we don't have a gun problem, that's insanity"

But why have these mass shootings become increasingly concentrated in just the last few months or year ? Nothing has changed in terms of numbers of guns or laws or culture, parenting, or anything else. Fortunately the Waffle House killing didn't go off or it really would be every month since Parkland.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

YOU TOO would rather see kids killed because all you are doing is pointing fingers and not taking action to change anything!

There is action. The NRA is now proposing a law to enable teenagers (after screening, of course) to allow them to carry guns just like adults. (1) They must be over 16 (2) Have at least a 2.5 GPA (3) No juvenile record (4) a recommendation by at least one school administrator and 2 teachers.

Funny how we never hear calls for a ban on cars after a car crash

Exactly and this is why teens need to be able to carry. This will work in the US according to the NRA.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

"America is returning to the days of the wild wild west" not even. The WILD west was safe. Actual people getting shot in cold blood was so super rare its not funny. Not to mention guns were only accurate to about 20 meters and took about 1 minute to load your good 'ol single action revolver. This little kid probably woulnt have been able to cock the hammer back of an old revolver. The wild west people think they know were fiction from dime novels that got turned into hollywood movies that where 98% of the violence is pure fiction.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

When you go to Disney it has become like airport security. You have to walk through a metal detector and have to have your bags checked. All this security so all these fat white Trump voters can have their toy guns (and they are toys) and completely open gun laws.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Arm the schools, install metal detectors, have only one way of entry during school hours.

And who is going to pay for that? Also this school was armed by two people. Proof is we need to have strict gun registration. Also, ban AR-15s

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Violence is ingrained. No escape. Stuck with it.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Exactly what common sense laws would have prevented this kid from getting his hands on his dad's shotgun & revolver?

A law placing responsibility on gun owners whose guns get used in crimes like this.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Yes, the one that the Dems oppose, but want open borders, want illegal immigrants to come in, but want to ban guns. Wow, you guys, just wow...

Reagan signed 3M amnesty and no border then or now. Trump failed. Dems are not in control.

Then assign either police or another private security company to do the job.

Who is going to pay for all that?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

the only thing texans haven't done is prevented well-armed angry white men (WAAWMs) from getting their hands on firearms. well, that and properly surveil them.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

this thug used a shotgun

Good point. If he'd had an AR it would have been many more killed. Thanks for backing up that we need to ban ARs. Imagine if he'd bought a mini gun (like what the Terminator uses) or a multi-grenade launcher from a gun shop he could have killed everyone in the whole school. Yes, ARs need to go.

So to NRA2A people, should teenagers be allowed to carry handguns just like adults to. No, I'm not talking about hunting rifles. I'm talking about Glocks and things like that. Any NRA2A people who don't answer this question are a closet liberal.

We’ve always had guns in the States, when I was a kid living in the States you didn’t have shootings like this.

Like this infamous massacre in '66?

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/beginning-era-1966-university-texas-clock-tower-shooting-n620556

9 so far this year.

22, unfortunately.

http://time.com/5282496/santa-fe-high-school-shooting-2018/

So don’t give me the crap that the problem in America are guns.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/6-things-to-know-about-mass-shootings-in-america/

Another significant finding is that mass shootings and gun ownership rates are highly correlated. The higher the gun ownership rate, the more a country is susceptible to experiencing mass shooting incidents.

Of course few are going to complain or call for reform, folks in the US are immune to the bloodshed and don't care enough to make necessary changes.

We go to war over almost anything, we have bases all over the world and we are a war mongering society. Why would a few shootings which are but a pinprick in our population stop us from doing as we want.

No the USA will continue to screw it all up but who is going to stop us.

That is already a thing that happens.

Except, you know, in Switzerland, with the third highest gun ownership per capita and almost zero murder rate... Funny how these studies always forget to mention that.

I think it gets talked about a lot. Switzerland is big on the "well-regulated militia" thing. The USA not so much.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

In other news, the WoPo had to change a story about more kids killed at school than in the military.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

I think we should all measure our responses before knee jerking them onto this forum. They have this kid in custody, and have a chance to learn from him. Why he created his own tunnel vision to give himself only one way to handle his issues. Kids in schools know more about why this is happening than anyone else. But they don't really want their parents to know how they think in 2018. It was back in the 80's where you started to get a feel about the cynicism in students. Mass cheating. Poor respect for teachers. Many knew their school would pass them anyway, even if their grades weer low, to maintain the school's status. This isn't only about video game training. It's about psychic darkness. If you think lives don't matter, then you're not a part of life. Ask the students what is going on. Ask them what is missing.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

But why have these mass shootings become increasingly concentrated in just the last few months or year ? Nothing has changed in terms of numbers of guns or laws or culture, parenting, or anything else.

... except medication, perhaps.

It's the humans not the guns that murder. I feel safer in Japan than in the "Land of the Free" but, were guns so freely available in the "Land of Wa", I would be looking over my shoulder here, too. Why is it so difficult to understand the obvious conclusion that Homo Sapiens(?) is simply not to be trusted with lethal weapons. My thoughts and prayers go out to the NRA and its dead men-walking supporters. R.I.P.

Well I read plenty of murders in Japan though I figure they tend to not report it in their statistics. Lets not forget all the propaganda to make it look like its safer than it is. Still safer than the USA but then again we are not the same type of society. We also are a warmongering society who has bases all over the world and has had 49 wars of one size or another for the last 50 years. No one can say we don't like our battles either.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Good.

I'm not saying there isn't a problem that needs addressing, but the whole "more guns equals more mass shootings" is crap.

People need to face reality. Guns in America aren't going anywhere. It's just a fact. There is a deeper cause to these shootings than just access to guns. Put the effort into fixing the mental health issue that you put into banning something that is just never going to be banned, no matter how many times you scream it on an internet message board.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Your answer to guns is more guns.

Yes, for the schools, definitely. Can you get to the President? No, if you tried, you'd be met with some serious firepower, the same goes for a concert or most celebs, schools shouldn't be any different.

Many schools like the one in Florida, isn't a single school building but many buildings on a school campus which involves the students going outside to leave and enter another building. The school is surrounded by a low level wire fence.

Build a bigger fence, send in armed police and install metal detectors. Where there's a will, there is most definitely a way.

Are you suggesting each building would have staffed metal detectors and that does not protect the students once they are outside.

I never said anything of NOT having guards on the outside and until they get on the bus or their parents pick them up from school.

A gunman could just wait until its end of school day, when the students are piling out and open fire with an auto assault taking out many tens of them. By the time armed teachers reach that scene there will only be dead bodies.*

That could happen and when you get on a plane it could crash as well.

Really, it that's your only solution, you should fire yourself.

Oh yeah? I am a million mile flyer, haven't been wrong yet. Anyway, if properly implemented, it would work.

Your answer is alway the same just more guns.

Your answer is the same, get rid of them. If the President is allowed to have someone to protect him, then I have that right as well. So yes, that is the solution or get rid of the 2nd amendment and that won't happen.

Not all teachers support being armed, what then?

Then assign either police or another private security company to do the job.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

We hear people describing why we should ban guns, the possibility of the perp being racially motivated, the evils of racism, and/or how to protect schools, or people blaming the NRA.

I keep reading 'common sense gun laws' are needed. Exactly what common sense laws would have prevented this kid from getting his hands on his dad's shotgun & revolver? The typical shouting points about assault rifle bans & closing so-called gun show loopholes would have done nothing.

Yet no one seems to be asking why are kids or young adults, predominately white, committing these crimes. How does a child grow into a monster like this?

I'm just incredibly surprised seemingly no one in the news is asking if there are any cues in society that may be shaping them?

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

As long as we allow civilians to possess military weapons this is what we will have.

Right. Have you told the citizens of those European countries where they're encouraged to bear arms, this? Because they don't go around shooting people. It's not about the guns.

-5 ( +8 / -13 )

You mean like the Mexican wall Trump promised.

Yes, the one that the Dems oppose, but want open borders, want illegal immigrants to come in, but want to ban guns. Wow, you guys, just wow...

Turn every school into a form of prison is sure to encourage the students.

Yes, the same way celebs feel, the .president, you know, important people.

Trump has a will about that wall but so far no way.

But the people in California are rising up and want it, so....

50.7 million students will attend public elementary and secondary schools. There are nearly 100,000 schools.

Great! That means, more cops, more hires! More work for people. A win, win situation.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

This is not a thing. Are you getting confused with libertarian Marxism?

Not at all, I’m from California.

That which seeks a break with the state and the capitalist system?

Some people want their cake and eat it.

I suppose it may put and end to guns as a currency and commodity, which may be a good thing.

Will never happen.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Right. Have you told the citizens of those European countries where they're encouraged to bear arms, this? Because they don't go around shooting people. It's not about the guns.

Are you Japanese perhaps? Deflect, obfuscate and compare to somewhere else. Europe ain't the US, so your point is moot here!

-7 ( +9 / -16 )

Having lived in Texas on and off for the last 50 years I can say that the reason you do not hear many calls for change in US guns laws is because, us Texicans, can handle it.

-9 ( +5 / -14 )

In the end, regardless of all the theories, it always comes down to the same damn thing. Too many guns too easy to obtain legally or illegally even nutters, crazy's, racists, gangs. Life is cheaper than a gun.

There are many things we can do, but going about the liberal Marxist way is not the answer.

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

As long as we allow civilians to possess military weapons this is what we will have. It’s horrible but the NRA owns the Republican Party and they would rather see kids killed and offer “ thoughts and prayers “ than do anything that will actually stop this.

Please, it's over-generalizations like this that compound the problem. Folks like you who point a finger and blame one party and make claims like this are just as stubborn and unwilling to face the fact that it isn't a proverbial black and white issue, there is a hell of a lot of grey.

It is NOT all or nothing, and btw, YOU TOO would rather see kids killed because all you are doing is pointing fingers and not taking action to change anything!

-14 ( +6 / -20 )

The gun grabbers are off the mark here. Their mantra-like calls for blanket bans on “assault weapons” (whatever that is) would have done nothing to prevent the gunman in this incident as he used a .38 Special revolver and a shotgun to carry out his evil deed.

Bottom line: We give up our guns, we say goodbye to our liberty and say hello to tyranny.

This is Texas. We don't run and hide. Never have. Never will. . . .
