If you knew your history better you would know that many western European nations were buying Caspian Sea oil from the Soviets almost immediately after the conclusion of WWII. Stalin was ardent to sell oil from these then newly developed oil fields to earn foreign exchange. After the fall of the Soviet Union a dozen or more western oil and gas firms began to develop new oil and gas fields in the Caspian Sea. Many European nations were willing customers. Also realize that all the eastern European nations are either former Soviet allies or formerly part of the USSR and thus were tied to what is now Russia for their energy. Lithuania only this past year freed itself from the Russian energy grid and now has a tie in to the main European power grid. The US and UK were warning countries like France and Germany as far back as 1947 not to become too dependent on Soviet oil. Their warnings fell on deaf ears but it is not a new situation by any means.

I think governments are beginning to realise that the use of war and inflation will not get them off the hook as an indirect means of suppressing emissions.

EVs require rare earth metals and electricity that folk are currently running short of. The development of carbon-neutral synthetic fuels for ICE cars may make the EV switch problematic. EVs may have a worse impact on the environment than synthetic fuels, if the synthetic fuels live up to their billing. F1 is switching to them and car manufacturers are investing in them. This will be interesting.

Well, it would be better that to line the pockets of the most powerful liberals that want to push EV on to the public that the majority of middle class Americans can’t even afford. Even building newer and supposedly cleaner energy isn’t that clean.

Yes, until we have a more permanent, more affordable solution on renewable energy and until then, we have more than enough natural resources in our country and we should do whatever we can to tap into that source and increase fracking would be a great start, it’s easier and helps us to move away from countries that are hostile towards us and will allow us to become independent as we should, not to mention we can become a huge exporter to the rest of the world.

They do have to worry about Global Warming,when they run out of gas ,this winter,it will be miserable in the EU

I seem to remember a certain Bad Orange Man warning about this several years ago, saying;  “Germany will totally become dependent on Russian energy if it does not immediately change course.”

He further added, “Here in the Western Hemisphere, we are committed to maintaining our independence from the encroachment of expansionist, foreign powers.”

TOKYO/BRUSSELS, June 27 (Reuters) - Japan is pushing to remove a target for zero-emission vehicles from a G7 communique expected this week, according to a proposed draft seen by Reuters, a move that would water down language on climate change from the leaders' summit in Germany.

Japan has proposed removing a reference to a "collective goal of at least 50% zero-emission vehicles by 2030", according to a draft of the communique reviewed by Reuters.

Separately, Japan had pushed to remove a goal for all new car and van sales in G7 countries to be "zero emission vehicles" by 2035, in the G7 climate ministers' communique in late May, according to sources familiar with the discussions and a draft communique seen by Reuters.

Zero-Emission future means the death of Japanese auto industry like Japan's once-dominant electronics industry before it.
