Yet another day I find myself ashamed of my Prime Minister. Morrison is just another idiot not capable of making the tough choices to cut coal and work to reduce in a real way, the damage we do to the environment.

To be fair, both sides in our politics are unable to make the right calls regarding the environment. If other countries face the same problem then the world and all life on it is doomed. Just like smokers and drug addicts we are killing ourselves. So much for being the civilized intelligent species.

All the Fijian Prime Minister is say "give us more money" or we will go to the Chinese, there is no rising seas in fact some of the islands are actually growing.

Australia sells the coal but China is the one burning it. If you're going to blame one, why not the other?

You cause the damage you pay for it. These island nations need to be comprehensively taken care of.

Morrison, who concedes climate change is real but insists it can be managed in a way that does not hurt the economy, has denied a rift between Pacific leaders.

Morrison doesn't really think climate change is real, or at least he doesn't think that human activity might be contributing to it. That's just something he says for the media.

He thought he could carry on with the good-guy persona at this Forum and that the Pacific leaders would be as gullible as the Australian public were when they voted for the Libs at the last election. It didn't work.

If China is so great perhaps Bainimarama can explain why he allowed a Chinese company to ignore Fijian laws and destroy part of the island of Malolo?

I watched the McCormack vid earlier today, absolutely disgraceful & embarrassing. Reeked of arrogance, racism & condescension. This is what a white supremacist sounds like.

Australia would feel different if they were just a few metres above sea level like some Pacific islands.

@ Andrew Crisp

Yes it's a money making racket. And like all good Socialists Barny Banana has his snout right in the trough

Australia and NZ have been taking care of Fiji for decades.

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

Hey Barney, by all means go with China.

I do not know what some of the above posters read. But this article states the Pacific Island Nations are asking Australia to do more to curb climate change. Coal and Uranium mining in Australia are both environmental health hazards and affect CO2 levels traping GHG. Fiji and the other Pacific Nations are rightly concerned.

Australia sells the coal but China is the one burning it. If you're going to blame one, why not the other?

Coal accounts for about 75 per cent of Australia's electricity generation, followed by gas (16 per cent), hydro (5 per cent) and wind around (2 per cent).

Bainimarama accused Morrison of heavy-handed tactics after the Pacific Island Forum wrapped up in Tuvalu Thursday with pro-coal Canberra sharply at odds with island nations facing the existential threat of climate change.

Aren’t the heavy handed tactics coming from the Socialist side who demean those who do not worship at the alter of CO2 / man-made global warming politics? 150 years ago CO2 comprised .03% of all atmospheric gases. Today it’s just over .04%. CO2 doesn’t even comprise a majority of all greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. CO2 is only one factor among many many known and unknown elements that affect climate. Incredulously, the warming alarmists refuse to accept the idea that any other factors, such as the sun, have any significant affect global climate.

The Fijian PM should read up about Chinese Diplomacy and Politics before trying to draw comparisons.

And maybe Australia should simply stop pumping money into those Pacific states as they clearly don't appreciate it.

Dont like Aust money?

Then dont take it !

Aust been bailing out Fiji for years and rebuilding the joint every time they go off their nut and burn and destroy their own country. ..

Dont come running to Australia when your new Chinese Overlords turn your country into New China.

Aust man on the street not happy paying for Fiji lifestyle.

It is quite obvious PM Scot Morrison is too dense to do his job properly, he should have come to the table with his ideas and plans for the future and the Pacific region. But in his ignorance he cries about money. So, I can only conclude that he must be made to do his job.

Anyone who knows an inkling about the affects of coal burning power plants on the populations in the plants area know that coal burning emissions deteriorate the health of the population. If Scot Morrison were fit to be PM he would wish to curb coal burning emissions himself.
