For those who are unaware, Saudi Arabia is essentially doing to Yemen what Russia has been doing to Ukraine. Except they’re backed by the US.

That is a pretty extreme distortion of the truth. The Zaydis, a Shiite denomination with ideology close to that of the Salafists, have been at war with their neighbors since 425 AD. They fought early Jewish settlement, the Syrians, the Ottomans, the British, the Saud family before there even was a Saudi Arabia, the Egyptians after WWII, and other tribes within Yemen. They fought to overturn the royalty that ruled North Yemen. Immediately after winning that war and becoming a "Arab Republic they started a decades long war with the old communist nation of South Yemen that eventually led to the nation being unified in 1990 thanks to UN mediation of their war. By 1994 however the Zaydis were unhappy and started a in a civil war with that government that has more or less continued in bursts ever since. The Arab Spring gave the Zaydis a cause to take up to try to get rid of the UN sponsored government that unified Yemen. That is when a man with the last name of Al Houthi emerged as a leader and the outside assigned his name to their cause. The Saudis didn't get involved until it became obvious that Iran was supplying weapons and financial aid to the Zaydis. The Saudis are rightfully worried about the Zaydis becoming another Hezbollah on their southern border.

How someone can stand with Ukraine but ignore Yemen is beyond me

For one the Zaydis are not fighting for elected democracy. They are fighting for a 7th Century theocratic tribal government with cars and Japanese electronics. There is a UN sponsored government of Yemen the Zaydis are in a civil war with  funded and armed by the Iranians who seek to turn them into another version of Hezbollah.

Russia is protecting Donbass from Ukraine. Nobody is protecting the Houtis. They are bombed, sanctioned, starved and blockaded with the help for US/UK and UAE.

UN has turned a blind eye.

Saudi authorities pledged the upcoming grand prix would go on as scheduled.

The Houtis taking the fight to the head of the snake not just fighting the Pakistani mercenaries that make up the bulk of the Saudi foot soldiers.
