It provides for the creation of a committee of five people, appointed by the governor and approved by the Senate, to take care of the administration of the zone once Disney's special statute is revoked.

Ah, so political appointees unaccountable to the public. Very Democratic and very small government. Lol

Relations between DeSantis and Disney soured after Disney CEO Bob Chapek spoke out publicly against a law pushed by the governor prohibiting the teaching of subjects related to sexual orientation or gender identity in primary school.

Yes, it's very good and normal for politicians to punish corporations for exercising free speech to voice opinions they disagree with. Also very Democratic.

Some elected officials fear that revoking the status will result in Disney debts of around $2 billion being transferred to local governments surrounding the park.

I hope the financial hit local municipalities are about to take is worth it. Great going, Ron.

Ah, so political appointees unaccountable to the public.

That’s an absolute farce.

Very Democratic and very small government. Lol

Yes.

Yes, but also Disney has a responsibility as one of the largest and most powerful corporation on the planet that provides family and children entertainment to stay neutral and stay out of politics and stop pushing its personal ideology on to the public.

This is why the guy is a rock star.

This is why the guy is a rock star.

What instrument does he play? Oh, you mean for taking on a $2 billion debt? Yeah, well done.

That's an acceptable price to win a battle in the culture war isn't it?

7 ( +7 / -0 )

That’s an absolute farce.

Nope. I quoted the article. They're not elected, they're not accountable the public.

Yes.

No. Unelected, unaccountable appointees isn't small government.

Yes, but also Disney has a responsibility as one of the largest and most powerful corporation on the planet that provides family and children entertainment to stay neutral and stay out of politics and stop pushing its personal ideology on to the public.

Lol no they don't. Don't believe me? Read citizens united. Companies have free speech rights.

This is why the guy is a rock star.

Yes, he's a rockstar, because he's an authoritarian. Bless.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

What instrument does he play? Oh, you mean for taking on a $2 billion debt? Yeah, well done.

Awesomest in G-major

Nope. I quoted the article. They're not elected, they're not accountable the public.

Neither is Disney and they’re held to account.

No. Unelected, unaccountable appointees isn't small government.

Have you even seen the Florida assembly???

Lol no they don't. Don't believe me?

Not according to the mounting complaints that continue to pummel the corporation.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

desantis has been floating this idea since last spring and is yet to announce a plan regarding how he’ll avoid taxpayers being hit with a massive debt burden.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

desantis has been floating this idea since last spring and is yet to announce a plan regarding how he’ll avoid taxpayers being hit with a massive debt burden.

Knowing DeSantis that’ll come soon enough.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Have you even seen the Florida assembly???

Lol what does that have to do with fact that this panel is unelected, and unaccountable?

Not according to the mounting complaints that continue to pummel the corporation.

Lol this isn't how constitutionality is decided. They have the right to speak in the US, and guests have the right to boycott, but I don't see that happening.

This is no different than when fundies got all upset about gay days in Disney in the 90s.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Knowing DeSantis that’ll come soon enough.

Then you’ll know that he promised a plan soon back in April last year.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

A rock star makes music but DeSantis can't even play a harmonious tune just another broken record.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

It makes sense.

The state of Florida governing state of Florida land.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Typically, the GOP takes a subject concerning education of essentially what is an LBGTQ enlightenment and awareness issue, and turn it into a political fight. It is a bias and a fear of a very real part of human life and not only does it educate, but helps kids to realize differences in people and respect them. Of course, the lack of respect of humanity is always a problem with a party that looks up to bias, racism and Trump.

It's never a good thing to pigeon hole ideas and forcibly tell someone who to be and love, but the conservatives, who likely still live by the conversion camp method, will now bully Disney with their political power in the sad state of Florida.

It's pathetic, petty and Republican in its shameful and silly vindictiveness as they constantly promote hate.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

This is why the guy is a rock star.

As in an "entertainer" who "performs" for a living? Yes, I agree with that...

As a Governor who is responsible for his state and it's citizens, he's a complete failure.

His faux-fight with Mickey Mouse could result in his state losing "Billions with a B" in revenue - and impact large and small businesses throughout the state.

He may be a "rock star" to some, but others this week labeled him a "RINO Globalist"...ouch, can't get much of a worse slam in MAGA-world than that...

“The real Ron is a RINO GLOBALIST, who closed quickly down Florida and even its beaches,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social. “Loved the Vaccines and wasted big money on ‘Testing.’ How quickly people forget!”

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/3839233-trump-knocks-desantis-as-rino-globalist/

So Trump supporters, is Trump right or wrong? Is DeSantis a hated RINO?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Lol what does that have to do with fact that this panel is unelected, and unaccountable?

Everything.

Lol this isn't how constitutionality is decided. They have the right to speak in the US,

As does DeSantis who is beholden to his constituents and many people in his state and including the governor have had it with the left shoving woke politics down everyone’s throat.

and guests have the right to boycott,

They have been. Look at all the recent woke Disney movies.

This is no different than when fundies got all upset about gay days in Disney in the 90s.

I disagree vehemently.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

I don't know why any Democrats would oppose this. This is an easy win - give DeSantis the rope (ie let him do what he wants with this issue) and let him hang himself (by pissing off his constituents who are suddenly on the hook for billions).

The worst thing that could happen would be for Democrats to oppose him, and win - it would just give him more ammo for his culture war.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

As does DeSantis who is beholden to his constituents and many people in his state and including the governor have had it with the left shoving woke politics down everyone’s throat.

In short, bass is in favor of government legislatively punishing corporations if they express a different opinion than the government. There’s a word for that, and it begins with an f.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

I thought the GOP was about keeping out of private business and fewer regulations.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Things are really heating up in the Great Inter-Florida Tallahassee - Mar-A-Lago war...

After Trump launched his "RINO Globalist" grenade, DeSantis fired back "I won re-election", essentially calling Trump a "Loser"... I'm sure that will go over real well.

https://www.politico.com/news/2023/01/31/desantis-trump-republican-candidate-00080406

But I'm a little confused....Trump bashed DeSantis saying he “Loved the Vaccines"....

*“The real Ron is a RINO GLOBALIST, who closed quickly down Florida and even its beaches,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social. “Loved the Vaccines and wasted big money on ‘Testing.’ How quickly people forget!”*

But Trump went on Fox and told everyone the "vaccine is safe, and it works" and urged all his supporters to get it. He's also called the vaccine a "medical miracle".

https://www.foxnews.com/media/trump-urges-all-americans-to-get-covid-vaccine-its-a-safe-vaccine

So a few questions for our Trump supporting friends;

1) Do you agree with Trump that DeSantis is a RINO Globalist?

2) Do you agree with DeSantis that Trump is a Loser?

3) Why is Trump insulting DeSantis for recommending the vaccine when he's on record doing the same thing?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

The state of Florida governing state of Florida land.

Except not all the land is owned by the state. It does not own my condo or the land.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

In short, bass is in favor of government legislatively punishing corporations if they express a different opinion than the government.

If the majority of Americans wanted it, then no problem, but seeing that they don't and want the woke culture to stop then you will see more pushback

There’s a word for that, and it begins with an f.

Failure flunked, fools the big mouse.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

I thought the GOP was about keeping out of private business and fewer regulations

public business and they are keeping it simple, very simple.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

Bass - Sorry, I’m getting up there in years, so my slang hasn’t quite kept up, plus I live in a very blue state, so we aren’t hearing as much about ‘woke’ as some other areas are. Just so that we are all singing from the same sheet of music, what does ‘woke’ mean in this context again?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

This really is nothing more than Ron Ron getting his undies in a bunch because an institution with real pull said his "Don't say gay" bill was a bad idea.

Well, we can't have a bunch of woke folk telling a middle-age white man he is wrong about something!

So off with their admin control.

Now, in a case of the nose biter to spite the face, local govt will have to pick up the tab again for little things like civil governance and sanitation.....

And Rock-Star Ron with the white disco boots doesn't have a plan for that yet, does he,,,,,,

It's almost as though he is making it up as he goes along out of an irrational temper.....

5 ( +5 / -0 )

The majority of Americans want gun control,

I want an end to the vegan diet as well.

Anyways, just pointing out Bass' hypocrisy of the hour

No, hypocrisy just trying to stay on topic.

The vegan diet is not compulsory.

2) Do you agree with DeSantis that Trump is a Loser?

Once again, multiple posts from our far-right friends but no replies to these questions...

Wonder why they consistently dodge them?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

I want an end to the vegan diet as well.

Now the Republicans want to control what you can eat.

The descent into fascism slides a little further each day.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

If the majority of Americans wanted it, then no problem,

So you’re OK with government suppression of corporate free speech as long as “the majority” supports it? That is blatantly unconstitutional.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

If the majority of Americans wanted it, then no problem,

If only you agreed with this idea more often.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I want an end to the vegan diet as well

That would infringe on the religious rights of certain groups.

Isn’t that what you accuse ‘the left’ of?

6 ( +7 / -1 )

The vegan diet is not compulsory.

If the liberals get their way it will.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

Now the Republicans want to control what you can eat.

No, that’s why Texas has the best beef.

The descent into fascism slides a little further each day.

No wonder people are fleeing to Florida, like Ron said, it’s where wokeness goes to die.

This really is nothing more than Ron Ron getting his undies in a bunch because an institution with real pull said his "Don't say gay" bill was a bad idea.

Why was Disney getting twisted undies in the first place about a state law?

wallaceToday  10:24 am JST

The state of Florida governing state of Florida land.

Except not all the land is owned by the state. It does not own my condo or the land

Except that in American English the words "govern" and "own" have different meanings. And in Florida to own a condo or land has a different meaning from just imagining one owns a condo or land.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

There are many exceptions to governing "Florida State" and not all residents are equal.

For instance, the Mar-a-Lago club just up the road from my condo was given tax exemption provide the owner and his family, Trump was not living in it.

There are no exceptions.

I flew over Mar-a-Lago in my parents' helicopter once.

So with a hypothetical of someone given a tax exemption, that would be governed by the State, unless there is a Constitutional aspect to it.

You believe what DeSantis says? Haven't you heard - according to one Florida resident, DeSantis is a "fat, whiny, phony" who "bungled" the state's COVID response. In addition, he's a corrupt "RINO Globalist"...like the ones you have said all need to be purged out of the Repub party...

https://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-ron-desantis-rino-globalist-ron-desanctimonious-2023-2

Given you have called DeSantis a "rockstar" above, you must think this Florida resident is a lying, incompetent, fool...

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Bass: “Unlike the left, we're not a collective”

but speaks all Floridians, Texans and conservatives. Ooookaaay.

The Mar-a-Lago club is just five miles from my condo but I'm leaving the state and moving to California.

Not a fan of Disney, but the neo-fascism of the GOP embodied in its new pathetic vedettes like DeSantis and the other fascist clique, they are persecuting any society or organization that does not agree with their restrictive, snobbish, retrograde, medieval and sick thoughts..

The neo-fascism of the GOP will destroy the rights of minorities, immigrants, women, the LGBT+ community and they want to build their ultraconservative religious white utopia..

DeSantis and the neo-fascism of the GOP are a danger to the US, society and democracy and the world..

Ex-President Trump signed 1993 agreement with Palm Beach County that says he cannot live at the club for more than three nonconsecutive weeks in a year.

No, you did not because it is a restricted air space.

Places outside the private parks need to be run like any other govt (county or city). No exceptions for corporate interests. There is enough issues with "company towns" already.

I think I'd be inclined to agree with you, except the the government of Florida didn't have a problem with this arrangement until Disney spoke out against the don't say gay bill. I think it's pretty awful the government there is trying to punish a private company for exercising their right to free speech.

It's true, but the Floridians seem to be clear that the culture wars are of primary importance to them. Let them do what they will, and reap the... results.

I don’t but they do when you look at domestic sales.

Funny, when the left peddle fascism it’s considered a good thing for the nation. The more I hear talk like that I’m sooo happy that Crist lost and the people realized what they could have had.

they are persecuting any society or organization that does not agree with their restrictive, snobbish, retrograde, medieval and sick thoughts..

No, they just don’t want wokeness taught in the schools and especially outside and having woke libs push via a mouse!

The neo-fascism of the GOP will destroy the rights of minorities, immigrants, women, the LGBT+ community and they want to build their ultraconservative religious white utopia..

If that’s the case why are people fleeing California and NYC like crazy?

DeSantis and the neo-fascism of the GOP are a danger to the US, society and democracy and the world..

Well, he must be doing something good as his star is rising, he’s more brutal than Trump!

sure, but is this something a 3 years old need to learn about by it being forced into a cartoon?

Ron-Ron is as qualified to make that call as he is as a middle age white
