Wonderful to visit but to live and work, totally different

I could not visit there with a clear conscience.

If you think 40*C is hot, don’t bother going to Dubai, in Summer, it’ll hit 50.

50 C and humid enough for there to be fog at that temperature.

It's always about money, image, and deadlines.

“We have taken steps to ensure those have been addressed and very much intervened in cases on that,” she said, without elaborating.

What good is any of it, AFTER all the work is done? It's not like anything is going to actually change.

"UAE and Saudi Arabia are allowed to have virtual slavery of migrant labor, barbaric systems of law and punishments, and blatant discrimination. But they are wealthy allies so no complaints from the West."

Yes. I lament this unfortunate fact as well. It's a "bipartisan" tragedy, so to speak: doesn't matter which "side" you're on: everyone is simply too hooked on the resources these countries provide (fuel as well as billions in cash to Wall Street/City of London/Silicone Valley IPOs, etc.) to do anything about it.

Personally, I'm already preparing to be sickened by the West's gleeful attendance, in a single calendar year, at massive sporting events in two of the world's worst human rights offenders: the Uighur and Tibetian culture-annihilating People's Republic of China's Winter Games 2022, then to the Jihad-supporting, domestic worker-abusing Qatar's World Cup 2022.

From a local CM promoting Dubai: “Dr. Takasu, Are You Ready” more questions arise. - Dubai. One of the most ostentatious locales in the modern world yet where modern slavery perhaps continues under many guises? A physical, tell-tale sign of its hidden sludge of elitist ideologies is the fecal matter the has to be trucked out daily because no one foresaw the need for adequate sewage systems as part of the infrastructure. To where, the remote desert, where, allegedly, some rebellious workers were heard to ‘visit’ but not return? And are there many controversial figures living there in exile from their former, less-forgiving jurisdictions? Some that openly defended the policies & atrocities of past 20th Century regimes that systematically enslaved, sexually trafficked & subjected other humans to forcible medical experimentation & torture, and almost, exterminated and entire people. - And we still have to look at their smug faces of self-engineered celebrity, 2-3 times a day? Let’s always ask: “Doctor Takusa, are you ready?”

Five people dead, many more (hundreds likely) injured and maimed (but they didn't release that information.)

That part of the world is infamous for importing Pakistani and Islamic Indian foreign laborers. With their passports confiscated, the workers have no choice but to continue or to starve. It is no doubt modern slavery.

I'd love to see the stats for Qatar which is gearing up for the WC.

UAE and Saudi Arabia are allowed to have virtual slavery of migrant labor, barbaric systems of law and punishments, and blatant discrimination. But they are wealthy allies so no complaints from the West.

You hear so many horror stories concerning Filipina domestic workers. Slavery and murder.

Dubai’s Expo 2020 on Saturday acknowledged that five workers had been killed on site during construction of the massive world’s fair, revealing for the first time overall statistics for worker fatalities.

UAE and Saudi Arabia are allowed to have virtual slavery of migrant labor, barbaric systems of law and punishments, and blatant discrimination. But they are wealthy allies so no complaints from the West.
