"He was convicted... for writing abusive posts on Facebook against State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, making people get the wrong impression of her,"

How many Trump supporters, especially those who bash the 'media' for criticizing Trump, wish the US would jail people for criticizing their political messiah.

Without a protected, free, for-profit media, one restricted primarily by libel and slander laws and the marketplace, the US could end up like Myanmar. Or China, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, places where authoritarian regimes control the media.

Suu Kyi sure is embracing the role of an autocrat.

It doesn't get much more dictatorial than that... If Suu Kyi doesn't condemn this decision, she definitely passed the point of no return.

Chip Star. Suu Kyi sure is embracing the role of an autocrat.

Aung San Su Kyi is nothing to do with an arrest and charge against Nagar Min Swe and later, convicted him. It was the Police who has taken action against Nagar Min Swe after he used abusive languages against State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi after she received kisses on the cheek from President Obama as a greeting when Obama visit Burma.

Nagar Min Swe was a supporter of the former military regime and USDP. He was paid for writing abusive language against Daw Aung San Su Kyi, but she never asks Police to take action. She ignores such as personal attack and abusive language post against her.

He received money and supporting by a group of former military regime's cronies who want the military regime coming back. He was paid money for posting anti - NLD Government and personal attack against Daw Aung San Su Kyi from the former military regime's cronies. His conviction is nothing to do with freedom of the press.
