You don't ask for immunity for no reason. This could get interesting...

Should be good fun.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

Hmm. That's a rather large crack in the dam.

12 ( +12 / -0 )

After calling his resignation a witch Hunt, it escalated quickly...

Maybe since Trump is so in with Russia these days Flynn will suffer a Putin-critic-like meeting with a few bullets. He should be looking over his shoulder. You don't ask for immunity from prosecution unless a) you're dead to rights, and b) you've got something to bargain with.

Yeah he's basically just admitted his involvement in something that goes deeper. Question is how deep?

10 ( +10 / -0 )

"There are strangers in the house," as the phrase goes, and they have deep connections with many in the GOP - and not just Trump's gang. Trump has simply been a vehicle. Coincidentally, just as the GOP is rupturing between the Freedom Caucus and normal humans, they will now have a much more serious issue to deal with.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

To quote Flynn himself, "when you are given immunity, that means you probably committed a crime."

10 ( +10 / -0 )

The clock is ticking on the naked emperor's reign. Wonder if he'll request immunity in exchange for his own testimony.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

"Can I keep my 500 grand payment from Turkey."

10 ( +10 / -0 )

@EVPO - Sure did, didn't he ? Yet another domino goes down ! My God, when will the circus sideshow ever stop ? The fall of this poor excuse for a Presidency has, and continues to make, our nation a laughing stock. It has, before the first 100 days has even passed, went from IF it will fall to WHEN it will fall ! Wonder what the odds makers are saying in Vegas ? Trump is a travesty ! No wonder FLOTUS wants to stay in NYC !

Fiyo... in the bayou (swamp).

Lots of speculative joy here- but let me remind you of something. There used to be a person named Hillary Clinton who lived in the woods. She did some bad stuff that her staff certainly knew about. Nearly every person on her staff was given immunity for their testimony and everyone expected that 'lock her up' would be coming true.

Yet, when each person testified they said nothing bad about Hillary. Then as a result of testifying and getting immunity, the bad things that they PERSONALLY did could not be held against them. Seems Flynn has some personal issues with payments and not reporting sources of income, etc that are against the law. So why not testify about the wrong things you personally did under immunity, say you know nothing about Trump doing anything wrong, and all those personal things that go away too? Same as Hillary people did, so there is precedent.

Moderator: Hillary Clinton is not relevant to this discussion.

The Trump supporters are taking a while to get the defences ordered on this one.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Wonder if Trump will attack Flynn now

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Even though Obama had Flynn fired, I'm waiting for the rightists and Russians to blame Obama for not locking Flynn up when they knew he was a dangerous and loose cannon. Flynn was a General? John le Carre stuff.

The Trump supporters are taking a while to get the defences ordered on this one.

Gotta wait for the talking points from the priests... I mean overlords.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

As the NY Time says, this is just smart lawyering. I read the letter from his lawter and it can be viewed as 1 of 2 things. Either, notification that he will not be testifying without immunity or an offer to testify with immunity. If I had to choose, I would say it does seem like an offer to testify.

Protects him from all his personal wrongdoings and he doesnt necessarily have to even say anything bad about Trump if he plays it correctly like they all did.

"Gotta wait for the talking points from the priests... I mean overlords."

Yeah, but I was expecting a few irrelevant Hillary, Benghazi, e-mail, MSM snacks to keep them going before the main dish of tripe was served up.

it amazes me that some people still believe the fake news. flynn himself has already denied this. this is just a fake news story to cover the Evelyn Farkas story.

-13 ( +0 / -13 )

Immunity = impunity: these guys never get locked up in Amerika's two-tier system of "justice".Thus, without any deterrent the crimes and misdemeanors of the elite are all of one pattern: a self-perpetuating vicious circle while "Do the crime, do the time" is reserved for the 95% of the rest of the population.

"it amazes me that some people still believe the fake news. flynn himself has already denied this. this is just a fake news story to cover the Evelyn Farkas story."

Just watch the whole discussion vaporize in a mushroom cloud with a push of the fake news button.

I just think the whole Mike Flynn thing will be done to get 'Mike Flynn' out of trouble and will have little if anything to do with Trump. Flynn has some non Trump related legal issues that will surely come back to get him shortly. So this would be one way to prevent that. Think about it, if he was really told to do something by Trump, he wouldnt need immunity. He could just say that he was doing as he was told.

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

Why would they give him immunity on non-Trump related issues when his testimony will be about Trump related issues?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Protects him from all his personal wrongdoings and he doesnt necessarily have to even say anything bad about Trump if he plays it correctly like they all did.

"Personal wrongdoings" what is that a euphemism for? Not petting his dog, not saying grace at a meal, not saying thank you, saying mean things.

Just say crimes, it isn't so hard. Immunity is because you broke the law and committed a crime, have information that is damning against another person, and you want to sell that information so you don't go to jail.

Besides, this is a friendly GoP led investigation, they wouldn't unfairly prosecute Flynn and will only ask the nicest of questions from him.

Where do you get the idea he can just say nice things about Trump and get immunity? Immunity goes away for not testifying truthfully, so your alluding to just not saying something bad about Trump wouldn't work. That would be perjury, another crime that would violate the terms of the grant of immunity.

Plus, he will not get immunity if he doesn't have something bad to say. The point of granting immunity is to let a small fish go in order to catch a bigger fish. If you don't get the bigger fish, then just prosecute him.

Still, the process of granting immunity is a long negotiation and doesn't always work. The immunity request was a month ago, and no one hasn't taken him up on it.

It is a kind of show me your "cards" and I'll show you my "cards" game. The more cards you show, the less power you have to demand the other side to show their cards.

The FBI investigation wants independent evidence against Flynn to make sure he tells the truth. The FBI are going to find smaller fish to turn as a witness before considering Flynn's offer. If they find someone else, the FBI may decide not to grant Flynn immunity. So, Flynn needs to worry about the smaller fish getting immunity before him because once they get immunity, the deal is off.

The FBI is very good at playing the prisoner's dilemma game. Flynn will not win this game without pointing a finger at someone more important than him.

i hate to burts a lot of our bubbles, as much as it pains for me to say, there might not be any fire with this smoke.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

Plus, he will not get immunity if he doesn't have something bad to say.>

Why not? as I said, all of the Clinton staff got it. Then when they went back later to question them about their own personal wrongdoings (ok crimes, as you said), it was found they had been given immunity for EVERYthing.

Moderator: We already instructed you earlier that Clinton is not relevant to this discussion.

@Blacklabel

Think about it, if he was really told to do something by Trump, he wouldnt need immunity.

You're right, we don't know if Trump is involved yet. Maybe Russia didn't get to the man in the middle of all this, but they seem to have gotten to many of his top advisors. Wittingly or not, Trump is involved. Putting aside his poor judge of character and vetting, his entire administration is compromised.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

If he's giving up Trump then he is definitely welcome to immunity. Nail these traitors to the wall

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Why would they give him immunity on non-Trump related issues when his testimony will be about Trump related issues?>

Because they think he has some info that will be negative against Trump. But what if he doesnt and they give him immunity anyway because they hope he does? Then he uses that to protect himself from criminal charges later.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Where there's smoke, you're fired!

Only WSJ scooped this report He hasn't said in public. Let not write ies here as if he said in public. Let's wait.

Think about it, if he was really told to do something by Trump, he wouldnt need immunity. He could just say that he was doing as he was told.

"I was only following orders!" doesn't wash any more now than it did at Nuremberg. Guilty as a kid caught scrumping apples!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Because they think he has some info that will be negative against Trump. But what if he doesnt and they give him immunity anyway because they hope he does? Then he uses that to protect himself from criminal charges later.

Spoken very naively. Negotiating for immunity isn't a game.

You do not get immunity without disclosing at least in general terms what you will say. If he lies or misleads someone in the negotiation about what he will say, the immunity will not apply, and he will be on record about his crimes. That will then lead to prosecution.

Flynn's name was bad before, but now it is complete dust.

Only the Russians would employ him now, if he could do it without breaking the law against ex-General's not working for foreign governments. Oops, he already did that.

I was about to say what Viking said. They don't give immunity unless you describe the information you have. It's not some game where someone just makes a lot of false promises then walks away free when they dont deliver. Educate yourself and do some research before making such statements.

Why are there only 2 conservatives left on this message board?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Educate yourself and do some research before making such statements Why are there only 2 conservatives left on this message board? >

All of my responses showing my research get deleted. Might have something to do with why all conversations here are one sided.

You CAN get immunity without telling anything negative. i.e. the email investigation of the person who lost the election. That person's staffers all got it while saying nothing that led to the boss being accused of anything. So when they went back to punish the staffers, all they did was already covered under the immunity they got for testifying about nothing.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

@Super: Beside yooou,,,,, who is conservative?

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

he last time FBI gave immunity for political issues, the person being investigated had no charges filed at the end and the people who got immunity testified of nothing that implicated themselves either.

I thought the purpose of immunity is to ensure someone tells the truth, not to encourage them to rat out someone else. Sometimes you know see something while doing something illegal yourself. Like if someone was speeding and drunk driving, when they say Trump walking down the street at night.

Of course they are hoping that person saw Trump walking down the street...with a Russian...holding a bag of money. That is why they offer immunity and people who want immunity will hint in that direction (like Flynn's statement of 'having a story to tell'). But the investigators dont get all that story until the person gets immunity from speeding and DUI.

The FBI has screwed up immunity before and I am sure they will again. Because of that I dont even expect them to offer anything to Flynn and I doubt he will ever testify. They should be able to make a case (if one exists) without him as they already have transcripts of all his phone calls, right?

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

Because of that I dont even expect them to offer anything to Flynn and I doubt he will ever testify.

They're not offering, he's asking. The man who said "when you are given immunity, that means you probably committed a crime" (thanks viking) is asking for immunity. Right now, they're not giving it too him, which could mean they have enough evidence to proceed without giving him a free pass. I admit it still too early to tell though.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

I get the feeling he's done nothing other than undisclosed meetings but is too stupid to know whether he's done anything criminal or not so is asking for immunity just in case. Kind of scary to have people in powerful positions that don't know about the law.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He'll admit to having a meeting with the ambassador (which is not illegal)

Ohh, but it was illegal. However, only a farmer was ever prosecuted.

He will not ask for immunity for that. The Trump controlled DoJ would never try to prosecute him for that.

Nice try, it is something else he wants immunity for and related to the investigation of Russia interference in the election.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

He is not balking nooow. His lawyer represents him. So,justt WSJ story.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

The Journal said it “wasn’t clear” what exactly Flynn had offered to discuss -- article

Heh, another fake news story from the propaganda wing of the DNC that's now been debunked by the House Intelligence Committee. President Trump is the best thing that's happened to the radical alt-left media tin foil hat brigade as they continue to breathlessly report on each other's conspiracy theories like their hair is on fire obsessed with everything he has alleged to have done. The search for Russian boogeymen continues. . . .

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

****toshiko Only WSJ scooped this report He hasn't said in public. Let not write ies here as if he said in public. Let's wait.

You are absolutely right that HE didn't say it. However, his LAWYER has publicly confirmed it.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

According to this morning's explanation, he is seeking Congressional immunity. Not criminal immunity.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The swamp is so toxic it's starting to kill itself.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

US Senate declined Flynn's offer of the snit

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Flynn never disclosed that he had been working for a foreign country as an advisor when he got the national security advisor job. He better hope he can get immunity.
