Rightists the world over never hesitate to use violence when they can’t get their way via the ballot box. Just look at January 6.

The far-right are scum and the world would be better off without them

After reading the article the headline seems senseless to me. I mean, putting your own countrymen before migrants and being critical of Islam and singing the national anthem are not far right behaviors in my opinion. These things just make sense. Maybe the left is so far over the cliff that centrist and common sense ideas are considered racist and far right. I also noticed the cheap dig at Donald Trump. Is this a news story or an opinion piece? Speaking of far right behavior, blurring the line between fact and opinion is far right behavior. Once again, the things this article mentioned as being far right are absolutely not so; but the writing style and tone of the article definitely were.

It’s hard to understand why or how a Jewish guy like Zemmour (albeit he’s a Jewish guy who thinks the WW2 Vichy government wasn’t a bad thing) could want to represent the same extreme right-wing forces that historically have caused so much misery for his people. I guess it’s because the target of French xenophobia has shifted these days, but you’d have to think it still makes for some very uneasy bedfellows.

They don't, actually. Good work ignoring the violence of the far-right, though! I think you spent too long describing your opinion, though. I'm sure you can sum it up in 14 words.

The far-right will never win in the republic which has already cost so many French lives to create and defend. Marine Le Pen wants to abolish dual nationality so citizens can be French only. That would affect retired French Jews living In Israel who would not be able to claim their pensions.

The far-right want to discriminate against Jewish people, you say?? Who could have guessed, except for everyone?

French far-right TV pundit

Anybody deviating from the corporate media narrative is branded as "far right". This is riduculous. When everything is "far right", nothing is.

Everyhing isn't far right. It's just that when you look at the people on the right, over the past few years a much larger portion has moved further right, increasing the number of far-rightists.

Most of the world is still left. But there are definitely a lot more far-right extremists these days.

That is only hard to understand if you uncritically believe the media mislabel of "far right".

Being for the nation station and its secular constitution is only "far right" in the minds of polemicists who never deviate from a narrative.

Hate speech convictions can be seen as badges of honour, especially in repressive places like the EU. He wants France to stay French, nothing wrong with that.

I can understand the discussion on whether or not hate speech could be illegal.

But to respect the people who have done something that would even put them in the position of being charged, much less convicted of it?

"I respect anything you say and I'll defend your right to say it".

Stranger; yes, because they highlight the idiocy of such laws. It is nothing to do with the particulars of what he said.

You can make a case for Zemmour being all kinds of right-wing conservative, this side of "far right". It partly depends on your own political orientation where you place him. Whatever Zemmour may be, his constant talk of violence and civil war attracts and encourages individuals and groups who are instinctively, unarguably far-right.

Decades ago, many of the kind of people who support Zemmour now were going after Jews. Now, they're going after Muslims. It's not just a question of being "for the nation-state" and its secular constitution. It's how you propose to solve France's problems. Mass roundups and deportations of every living Muslim in France (which is what Zemmour has suggested is not impossible as a solution) whether they're criminals or law-abiding, on the basis of ethnicity and religion alone, is not a civilized or democratic way to go about it. That makes him and his supporters "far-right" in my book.

Split the extreme right vote Mr Trumpy-lite...

A fine job. Keep the nuts from power.
