France needs access to UK far less than UK needs access to Europe via France.

Johnson will tank the UK economy.

Leaders? We're tired of "leaders."

How this clown is PM, I'll never understand. And Priti Patel should have been persona non grata as soon as she stepped off that Kenya Airways flight tracked by 22,000 people, on her way to explain to PM May why she had secret meetings with Israel. All members of the cabinet have skeletons in the closet. The transport secretary can't even make up his mind what his name is or how many jobs he has.

It's a never ending parade of garbage from the corrupt, lying and incompetent Tories. The absolute state of this: Johnson's notorious speech to the Confederation of British Industry. It's beyond words..

I always find it weird that the UK pm has such a chaotic haircut. It makes him look very unstable.

Doing international relations on Twitter??!!! I'm not surprised it ended like this. And Brexiteers thought the Channel problems would end as soon as they left the EU? Get real. Plus, most foreigners trying to get in aren't even EU citizens. And Britain has lost the ones willing to do the menial jobs on the farms and factories.

The most important point, above all others, is to stop immigrants drowning every day in the Channel by providing safe passages.

No, the important thing is to stop creating wars and destruction so that these people feel comfortable in their own countries.

Alfie:

Peppa Pig, indeed! The hair, the lost notes. All that was missing was the usual Latin words. How the heck did the UK vote for this?

Peppa Porcus.

They should ban all heads of states from Twitter. Hasn't Johnson ever heard of backdoor diplomacy and tact?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

What can these would-be immigrants to the UK get in the UK that they can't get in France or any of the several other EU countries which they pass through to get to France?

Find some article about the situation :

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/nov/26/channel-crossings-france-uk-johnson-macron-letter

And the letter :

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/migrant-tragedy-read-boris-johnson-e2-80-99s-letter-to-emmanuel-macron-in-full/ar-AAR9Rz6

And what is actually readmission agreement :

https://ec.europa.eu/home-affairs/policies/migration-and-asylum/irregular-migration-and-return/return-and-readmission_en

So most of Bojo new ideas are already in place and in the process of being improved (at least before he just decided to show the world he does not understand a thing about diplomacy nor he know what he is talking about).

I do not really see the point of having more cops moreover not speaking the same language not following the same rules not having the same training and so on. Seems far more easier to catch people already at sea and solve the issue of : is it actually illegal in France to board a boat ?

He does not seems to understand what is a readmission agreement. How that will solve the issue of non-EU people landing in the UK ? Bojo should negociate these with the countries these people are from.

Difficult to not understand why he was asked to get serious. The form and the content is ridiculous.

It was certainly much easier and more pleasant for both, France and UK to criticize Belarus over the migrants' issue just a few weeks back. Made them look all caring-like. Hypocrisy, is it not?

I think the situation where family already residing, is a point in question, that needs to be addressed.

Back in the day before covid, Mum wanted to spend some 18 months with Dads family bonding up north west carrying out farming stuff, cultivation, fruit and veg picking. I thought Mother had lost the plot, it is serious hard work no time for nail polish.

Mother visa had run out, the Tokyo Embassy was having none of it, how dare you very much.

There is no flexibility, the computer says no.

So I doubt anyone travelling in a dingy across the Channel is going to be given the time of day.

zichi:

Let me see. Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan. Don't get me started on Africa. You might not be able to see the American/western money flowing into those countries to make trouble or buy weapons, but it's happening. You are changing the subject when you bring up people smugglers.

And just how many people do you think the UK can take?

France seems to be evolving into the angry little country that couldn't.

Chill out, drink a few glasses of your world class wine with some Camembert cheese and start loving life again. Life is to short and fragile to spend it in anger all the time.

The obvious solution is to return Calais to British sovereignty, and then it will be 100% a British problem.

UK-French relations yesterday, . reached a new low It could deteriorate further as Johnson took to twitter to goad and bait Macron over migration.

True to form Marcon bit.

And, sure enough the Macron tantrum that inevitably followed, was the firing pistol for conservative MPs to ferociously pin the blame on the hapless French President and Government.

The five points, Johnson letter…..

 1. Border Force officials to help patrol French beaches and nearby roads. UK could fund private security if French reject these over concerns about sovereignty

2. Allow the UK to return migrants who cross the Channel directly to France and 'break the business model of criminal gangs'

3. Border Force cutters to help patrol French coastal waters. French Navy could enter UK waters on joint missions

4. UK could fund the deployment of ground sensors and radar in northern France to help detect suspicious activity on remote beaches. PM also offered to 'deepen' intelligence-sharing on the operations of smuggling gangs

5. PM also offered to share intelligence from British surveillance flights over the Channel to help French forces intercept smuggling operations more quickly

Now on the surface some of the point have value, however that is not their political intent.

Johnson, as his legion of advisers and aides are well ahead of Macron Government.

British political parliamentary establishment, are a ghastly mixture of beasts and hounds well beyond the comprehension of Marcon’s Government.

Macron being set up. And he only has himself to blame.

The picture of French police turning a blind eye to these hazardous crossing are evidence along with the astonishing rise in channel crossing attempts over the past 12 months.

Macron said Sunday's meeting in the port of Calais with German, Dutch and Belgian interior ministers, as well as the European Commission, would go ahead without the UK.

Without the participation of the UK government, a key player, you are setting yourself up to be blamed for any future tragedies.

The most important point, above all others, is to stop immigrants drowning every day in the Channel by providing safe passages.

I think the most important point is to stop them boarding boats on the mainland to get to the UK.

Stop the people smugglers.

Any that get to the UK from the European mainland should be returned to the country in Europe they departed from.

Let me see. Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan. Don't get me started on Africa. You might not be able to see the American/western money flowing into those countries to make trouble or buy weapons, but it's happening. You are changing the subject when you bring up people smugglers.

So the west should ignore AQ, Daesh and the rest of these Salafist inspired terrorist groups as "none of their business"? How about Iran? Ignore them too? So what if they develop nukes. Right? Israel's problem, not the wests? Not saying the west has handled everything perfectly but it's not all about selling weapons. Remember those two big buildings that burned and fell on 9-11? Stuff that happens in that part of the world can kill lots of people continents away if nobody pays attention or just assumes it is none of their business.

Oh, and of course the Saudis, UAE, Turkey and Russia are completely blameless and innocent in all of this. It is always the west that is to blame.

UK is a essential trading partner to the French economy. Every sector.

France Exports to United Kingdom

https://tradingeconomics.com/france/exports-to-united-kingdom

A prolonged trade war would be catastrophic to the French economy.

The subsequent recession would hurt the most venerable.

This migrant tragedy has to be brought to a halt, solved in a manner that will save lives.

Britain or any single country for that matter, could not remotely handle such a large influx of migrants.

The UK economy, ravaged by this pandemic is not in any fit state to process such a commitment.

Housing and social welfare services, NHS are at straining point already.

Prime Minsters/Politicians are focused to the point of paranoiac affliction on re-election, and public opinion.

Social media amplifies this malady, with a means to broadcast within seconds a policy, agenda without any forethought.

The 27 drownings, including a pregnant woman is a shameful appalling preventable tragedy.

An open-door policy to deal with, migration, refugees, asylums seekers, is an activist’s pipe dream.

Manifested in the numbers that carry no identification.

People smuggling offers a business model that is hundreds of times more lucrative than drug trafficking because your market, will in the event of failure to arrive at their destination, find any means to pay and pay again.  A business model that keeps on giving

This has to be stopped.

However, that will require the political will to do so.

The reality! No state or county wants the economic burden or political costs.

Ask yourself, how must are theses lives really worth?

For the people smugglers the ticket is 5000 euros a pop.

And the value of these migrant lives to a Politician, well ask that question on the run up to a national election

France on Friday scrapped planned talks with the UK about migrant crossings after an "unacceptable" letter from British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, pushing relations to new lows after 27 people died in the Channel.

UK leaders need better diplomacy. British citizens should demand that.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

@The Avenger, you're wrong. These two nations have been at the other's throat for centuries. It's a 'manly' thing. Get over it.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

Not for the first time, Macron seems to be very quick to throw his toys out of the pram. He might pause and consider why these people are risking their lives to escape his country.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

"I am surprised by methods when they are not serious. One leader does not communicate with another on these questions on Twitter, by public letter... No, No," Macron told a press conference in Rome

…,,,

Emmanuel needs a quick reality check!

This is not a French nor a British problem-this is the world’s problem.

There needs to be public debate and openness which he can’t seem to get to grips with.

Temperatures are now in single figures in the Channel.

France needs to prevent people embarking for the UK…now!

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

People need to start respecting the dudes authority lol.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

The idea of sending back migrants to France "is obviously not what we need to resolve this problem", he added.

"You could ask now whether Boris Johnson regrets leaving Europe because as soon as there's a problem he considers it Europe's job to solve it,"

Um, but it's your problem though? France once again doing things without a clue

The French cry baby is at it again.
