From my computer desk I can smell the FEAR and ENVY that the US and its pet nursery have of the unstoppable rise of China..

No match for a China that will shovel money into the accounts of corrupt leaders while leaving future generations in impoverished countries to pay the debt.

China's investment scheme involves development and programs in over 100 countries aimed at creating a modern version of the ancient Silk Road trade route from Asia to Europe.

China's trade route is actually beneficial for the environment because the shortest route between China and Europe is a railroad through Russia.

Ships produce massive amounts of emissions, especially the big ones that can't go through the Suez canal and have to go all the way around Africa.

Why is the G7 opposed to a trade route that can help "fight climate change"?

Group of Seven leaders on Sunday pledged to raise $600 billion in private and public funds over five years

Late stage capitalist corporate welfare five year plans to prop up the Western oligarchs on the back of G7 taxpayers.

The G7 is having a reckoning of prioritizing corporate welfare over infrastructure and wages.

This is NOT going to improve on the lives of people in the targeted countries. Their homes will still be raised for mines and dams, their rivers will still be polluted, their roads will be even more dangerous from more commercial trucks, and more foreign criminals will operate to 'serve' the needs of foreign expats, just look at the drugs trade flowing through Pakistan when China was given control of Gwadar port.

What ever happened to the Rules Based Order? To stand for the little guy? Those who just want their way of living protected?

People in developing nations have always been happy, and they have overwhelmingly said they want health and education, not electronic trinkets.

It's really sick when a president of the USA can spin how he plans to follow China down the rabbit hole as some kind of world order.

TL - I try not to ever claim to speak for all Americans, but I feel safe in saying that there are no Americans who "ENVY" China. Any Americans on this forum disagree?

Wasn't there this Build Back Better project? And before that there was another hare-brained scheme which has disappeared. Biden makes a fuss over ASEAN offering them millions - and yet it was ONE-TENTH of what China had already offered last year. And 4/10ths of USA's 'generous offer' was to be allocated to military spending. Same thing during that failed meeting of the Americas recently - offering crumbs to Latin America when China has already offered much more.

How the hell can America claim to offer any sort of help when they can't even maintain their own infrastructure? Even poor Laos now has better trains than much of USA, and they and the Chinese had to spend considerable time removing American bombs left during the Vietnam war when the rail was being built.

White House officials said the plan has provided little tangible benefit for many developing countries.

Pathetic. HSR and rails offer no benefits????!!! What planet are these officials living on? They have offered nothing except wars and coups. 20 years in Afghanistan and what did they build for the people? Oh that's right, nothing, because they stole Afghanistan's money. And what did they do for Iraq apart from bombing and killing? China is now trying to negotiate the building of a 1000 schools in Iraq.

And Japan (Japan PM's face conveniently cut from the photo, as always) only helps because it doesn't want China to have one up on them, but they can hardly afford anything. And their building skills are sinking. Hanoi subway, built with Chinese assistance is already up and running, and continuing to expand, whereas the Ho Chi Minh City Metro built with Japanese assistance has been held up continuously. 2024 opening? Good luck with that!

And don't get me started on infrastructure in the UK, like high speed rail. The Elizabeth line has been delayed for years and you still have to change trains in central London. And California? Oh god, maybe next century.

Mark my words, you'll hear nothing about this next year. China can offer bullet trains. All America can offer is bullets, not trains.

"I want to be clear. This isn't aid or charity. It's an investment that will deliver returns for everyone,"

Can I use a phrase the west usually throws at China?..............."but at what cost".

Any decent country with a brain would avoid USA, the IMF and World Bank at all cost. THEY are the ones pushing poorer countries into deeper and deeper debt. All America does is plunder other nations, setting up large industries to siphon off raw materials. The Congo was battered because USA needed its uranium.

Ridiculous and fact-less on every level....

More CCP propaganda and disinformation...

Every country that has accepted CCP help for their infrastructure has realized it was a clear debt-trap and regretted it...

More coalition building skills by Biden. So much better than the previous 4 years.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Bidens wants his own belt and road project .

However pretty soon the USA will be in such a mess domestically and engulfed in a civil war that it won't be able to pretend to be a world leader or have a belt road project.

Canada could use some of that money for the Post of Vancouver.

So what did all these countries around the world expect when they asked China to make all their products for cheap and be in debt to China ?

Duh !

Where do you think all the money came from to start the belt road project and build Chinese military and infrastructure and economy.

China is just too clever

The G7 were caught off guard.

Too late, I say.

China and Russia ruling the world . . . Now there’s a scary thought!

people say these things as if they are factual and obvious to everyone. but give no examples of any positive results gained.

so a bunch of white guys are sitting in a room smiling while the world all around them is falling apart.

what has this coalition built or done? what are they doing that a Zoom call couldnt accomplish?

Im curious, educate me as to why they needed to increase their carbon footprints while spending taxpayer money.

No masks?

Exactly. Other than making fun of Putin with his shirt off, I don't think they have anything left to contribute.

Who voted down the Port of Vancouver needing that money? The Port of Vancouver is in desperate need of infrastructure money. It is one of the worst performing ports in the entire world. It is very typical of Canada's current government to do nothing for Canada but try to look cool on the world stage. There are a large number of festering problems in Canada but the PM has not interest in facing any of them. He is either in hiding in Canada or on some overseas trip.

Follow China down the rabbit hole

Rabbits don't have holes they make Warren's that have multiple exit's .

It's a useless cliche !

Depending on which exit you choose could be serendipitous .

US and it’s allies are finished. Buy Yuan, learn kanji.

US and it’s allies are finished. Buy Yuan, learn kanji.

The Chinese economy is collapsing as well, thanks to COVID, CCP policies and corruption, and Russia's invasion. The Yuan is not strong, and kanji is not what is needed to learn Chinese. It is Mandarin. Kanji only uses around 3,000 characters. The average native Chinese knows about 8,000 characters. China's own people don't like their government. If you find actual untainted news from China that is not dictated by the CCP, you'll know why. But carry on with your propaganda... does not change reality and facts.

> China and Russia ruling the world . . .

@Stormcrow: Emphasis on RULING... People don't know what they'll be getting until it's too late.

As I've said before, if China were DIFFERENT and the government was not as they are now, many of us would probably be less critical about China's "rise" as a true super power. But knowing how the CCP is, it will not be looked upon with open arms and smiling faces.
