The scent of rancid, rotting garbage increasingly wafts through the air as spring arrives and the weather grows milder.

While other part of the world open up for tourist that could give boost to their economy, France just give another kind of welcome for tourist.

I love Paris, but it is one of the most stinkiest citied I've been in (mostly pee and sewage). Just imagine that plus the added aromas of fermenting garbage.

Seems very few citizens of western countries are actually happy with their governments.

lots of liberal ones are imploding.

Oh yeah Macron is a total “right winger”.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

Although Emmanuel Macron campaigned for the French presidency as an exemplar of the Third Way, since taking office he has governed with broadly right-wing policies, even if that means ripping up some of his campaign promises.

Oh, yes, Blacklabel, much better to be in an oppressed place like China or Russia where dictatorships tell you you're happy because you're told to be, otherwise you get sent to Siberia and treated as the Uyghurs.

What a silly statement by you. As if England was happy with Boris and Liz. As if the USA was happy with insurrectionist and conservative law breaker Trump.

Go live in Russia, if you have a disbelief in liberalism, which allows for critical thought, and be told how you must be happy, because the govt. says so, irrelevant of facts and getting true information, which, btw, is the usage and the staple of conservatives, so you'd likely fit right in except you'd find out you can't say anything negative about your govt. Duh.

Liberalism is about freedom of thought and opinions which gives you the right to voice support for misogyny, bigotry, and false narrative of Trump support.

You should be 100% thankful for liberal thought, but you're so narrow minded swimming the soup that is conservative ideal, you don't realize without liberal freedoms and care for so called bleeding hearts, you wouldn't have a voice at all.

There are about 500 million people in Europe. 331 million in the US.

831 million people.

More than 400 million are not happy then?

Seems very few citizens of western countries are actually happy with their governments.

lol sure, hold the line, remember the truckers!

yeah it appears so by the amount of protests and political divisions going on in most of these countries.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

The protesters do not represent the majority of the people who during the covid pandemic watched the rich get richer by more than $1 trillion while those on the heap suffered a loss.

looks like Marseille..... on a good day.

Farher God, what nonsense you carrying!!!? Where did you see or read this? Have you ever been to Russia?? Did you live in Russia?? What freedom you lack there to argue so confidently. The level of your narrative - obscurantism

Protests, strikes, demonstrations? How laughable in the very most cases. The average or poor ones only harm themselves even harder if they prefer to live amongst own garbage, less medical treatment due to striking hospital staff or having more and more stupid children if the teachers strike , and so on. It’s all not really disturbing the riches and powerful so much. They easily find ways to get rid of garbage, pay for private doctors or send their children to foreign elite education institutions. But go ahead, it’s at least entertaining the super riches as they already have everything else when watching the lower and middle classes fighting each other. What a senseless behavior or joke, when only attacking own interests…

Has it ever crossed your mind that the size and frequency of protests in western liberal democracies demonstrates that democracy is alive and well in said country?

Love the logic here: People in DPRK must be happy there because they don't go out and protest! Lol

Sven: Protest & demo don't work but strikes do and even better are go slows, It got the Australia blue collar work employer contribution superannuation of 10%. that the company pays. this was back in the 80,s now the government is free from given these retirees the pension. The conversation government of the late 70s refuses all attempts. But it was striking that got over the line.

When democracy fails the French revolt!

Good on them

1 ( +2 / -1 )

It's arithmetic and common sense that's failed the french left, not democracy.

Back to work slackers, heh, and for longer! This is a dead horse being flogged....

blacklabel - "Seems very few citizens of western countries are actually happy with their governments."

As opposed to the totalitarian regimes you support? Let's see how happy Westerners are when they're getting 15 years in gaol for dissent like in scumbag russia...

THIS IS the way of the world!! Its not just France, this has a lot to deal with migration patterns people looking for a better way of life, wage suppression and large corporate greed, companies not wanting to pay employees a respectable living wage. If you look at wage growth world wide it has not kept up with the cost of living for most people and because of this, people are falling farther behind in just being able to pay for basic necessities in life. These large corporations with CEO's racking in huge bonuses from companies making big profits while the workers wages are stuck and is nowhere in close to the real cost of living. If the CEO gets huge bonuses these company should share the profits with the employees a the compensation should trickle down to the employees after all they are the ones doing the work.

It all ads up to One Main Thing, the French people ain't happy with the way Macron has reneged on his promises and turned his back to them.

Keep the retirement and pension age at 62 and then take out the trash! Quit ignoring the will of the people!

Ok, so where will the money come to pay for these pensions? Do you think it's fair that the taxpayer has to be responsible for people that are still physically able to work? Then who will save up money for me and my pension?

That will be the same for your own pension.

The French workers paid into the scheme and expect the government to honor the agreement. Delayed payments should receive higher payments.

I would donate mine when the time comes, I think that would be the fair and just thing to do.

Like in the US, it is not a financially stable idea, I think if these people want a full pension, and work longer, why do the rest of the taxpayers have to fund it?

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Macron trashed their democracy with 49.3. They should have formed chains of protestors all converging at the French parliament and passed rubbish sacks from all of Paris down them, dumping them there.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

The splendor of France in its own mess.

Majority of people accept the idea of living longer work longer.

The dustmen like air trafic controler or dockers are using their power of nuisance.

Democracy was respected with a vote trying to oust the government but it failed.

There has been plenty of give away.

The change of law does not concern those born before 1961 ! And if started working before 21, will allow you to retire before age of 64... and plenty of such exceptions for physical jobs.

Absolutely incorrect !

No correct

This is about France !

I know, that’s why I made the comment to put it perspective

Not about anywhere else.

You just said that.

The only thing that's migrated it your ability to stay on topic !

I am, that’s why my ultimate point is, the people should work longer if they want these benefits, because once the country has no more money to pay out, bad things happen.

Ted Bush said that in 2016 and that cost him his GOP Presidential nomination. People don't like that kind of talk, esp. from a politician from a dynastic family.

'Let them eat cake!', Marie Antonette. Uh-huh, and you know how the Parisian public reacted to that statement.
