Israel got a boost from the visiting U.S. defense chief, who said no country could tolerate the “repugnant” attacks on its soil.

... except Palestine, they must tolerate decades of occupation, imprisonment, terrorism.

All Israel has to do to stop these "repugnant" attacks is to stop the illegal occupation and start following international law and principles of common human decency.

I can't say that I can see how this attack will achieve their goal of statehood, but I'm sure someone will be along to explain it to me soon. As long as they use violence the international community will simply back off of Israel.

sabiwabi:

" All Israel has to do to stop these "repugnant" attacks is to stop the illegal occupation and start following international law "

Demonstratably false. Every time Israel gives concessions to muslim Arabs, it gets more demands in return.

And when muslim Arabs say "stop the illegal occupation" they of course mean not simply withdrawing from the West Bank. They mean mean stop the existance of the Jewish state. Look at the list of demands that always accompany these "peace" suggestions (Jerusalem as Arab capital, immigration of millions of muslim Arabs into Israel proper, etc.)

If the muslim Arab leaders simply wanted "peace" with Israel, they could have had that years ago.

This is all starting to make sense - beyond the usual cycle o' violence narrative:

The Hamas Gov't in Gaza is falling apart at the seams. Meanwhile, Fatah is building up the West Bank, expanding the economy, lowering unemployment, and muzzling radical, hate-spewing clerics with Hamas ties. Conditions in Gaza have gotten so bad that Hamas is having to beat up protesters calling for reunifcation with the Fatah-controlled PA. In fact, if an election were held to day, Fatah would win handily... which is exactly why Hamas has refused to hold scheduled elections, thrice.

So, what to do? The answer is obvious: fire a couple dozen rockets and mortars at Isreal. That should solve the problem.

Sad but true. This has nothing to do with the usual Israel hate. This is all about staving off the protests wracking so many other countries. The last thing Hamas wants to do, is remind people around the world, that they are in fact terrorists. Everyone knows they attack and murder Israelis, most people are inured to that. What they aren't used to though, is seeing protesters being murdered, not by Israelis, which they could simply condemn then sweep under the rug, but by Hamas. Hamas is desperate to distract their own people from whats happening. As well as to distract the media from paying attention to the Gazans themselves.

I love the one-sidedness here. Either the Palestinians are all terrorists or the Israelis are. They both are. But at least the Palestinians have an excuse.

WilliB, concessions? You don't concession your way to a clean slate in an occupation! You are not out until you are out, and until you are out you deserve to be shot.

I just wish the Palestinians could make those rockets directly target IDF personnel and Israeli government rightists who maintain the occupation.

As for us outside of the equation: You see two guys fighting. Who do you pull off first: the guy eye-jabbing the other guy, or the guy chocking the life out of the other. Its really not hard to figure out unless you have sold your principles for some misguided love of Israel. I say again: both terrorists. If you can't figure that out, you have no idea what you are talking about.

Appreciate your opinion. Obviously disagree, but you have to expect that.

One of the guys in the fight kills his own kin like you and I would a fly or a cockroach. It seems clear to me that force is all he understands.I'd let the beating continue.

the guy eye-jabbing the other guy

Hamas sending rockets and suicide bombers into populated civilian areas with the sole intent of murdering women and children is hardly a jab in the eye. I can think of few things more reprehensible than terrorism.

Helter, compared to jet fighter bombing runs, armour invasions of civilian Gaza complete with white phosporus, and sealing Gaza up tight with ships, jets, concrete and barbed wire, the description of choking is also too mild.

Relatively speaking, the analogy is sound. But when someone is as one-sided as you, relativity is invisible.

Tens of thousands of those unguided flying firecrackers have managed to kill a couple dozen people. They cannot target anything with those, yet you claim their sole intent is to murder women and children? Hello melodrama! Far more women and children have died from Israeli attacks.

The analogy was apt. You know it and I know it. You just don't like the truth it exposes, pure and simple.

Far more women and children have died from Israeli attacks.

Given Israel's arsenal of weapons, if Israel's intent was to target civilians, there'd be tens of thousands of "Palestinian" deaths. Don't blame Israel if Hamas uses hospitals, schools, and mosques to hide behind and store weapons. And, of course, Hamas terrorists wear civilian clothes to blend in with their population. Hamas doesn't care about "Palestinian" deaths, which they simply view as simply good propaganda. And it apparently works.
