He will be missed assuming the war in Ukraine doesn't go too far south. The optics of the church visit weren't good, but his fullthroated defense of democracy against the likes of Trump will give him a great lasting legacy.

Depends on whom you ask. Miley will also be blamed and remembered for the disastrous withdrawal in Afghanistan and how he drove a once proud military into politics to make it woke. Some people might feel sad for his retirement, others are jubilant.

Unlike many, he served his country for more than four decades.

Disabled veterans seem to get respect from everybody but Donald Trump.

Trump questioned and criticized General Mark Milley's choice to have a disabled soldier sing at a welcome ceremony.

Trump said, "Nobody wants to see that".

Only the MAGA Fascists and authoritarians, everyone else will laud is career in service to his country and the Constitution...

Miley will also be blamed and remembered for the disastrous withdrawal in Afghanistan

Due to Trump's and Pompeo's surrender deal...

and how he drove a once proud military into politics to make it woke.

As I've mentioned several times to our MAGA-friends, go by any US base and wait at the gate out front - when some of our Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airman, or Coast Guardsmen leave the base, tell them you think they're weak....just make sure there's a hospital close by...

Some people might feel sad for his retirement, others are jubilant.

The jubilant ones are those that hate our military and never had the guts to put on the uniform - like certain posters here and this guy;

Former President Donald Trump once belittled a disabled veteran, saying "no one wants to see that," The Atlantic reported.

Absolutely disgusting...

Waving the bs flag. I have served with the US military throughout the 1980s and again since the early 2000s. I still serve. The military didn't change so much as politics did. The politics of today is a lot more conservative and outwardly racist that it was during my time as an officer. Our military values then and today were inclusion and diversity. We were in fact proud that poor kids of ever race could join the military and succeed in an organization that did not discriminate. That has not changed. What has changed is that society now seems to accept open racism and all kinds other bigotries that I used to think the nation had finally overcome and certain elements of our politics openly embrace that racism. The kinds of filth that comes out of some white politicians mouths today would have never been tolerated in the 1980s and 1990s. Now being a bigot is considered cool.

Miley will also be blamed and remembered for the disastrous withdrawal in Afghanistan

Executing Trump's withdrawal plan from Afghanistan was not going to turn into a stunning defeat of the Taliban.

Many have.

Disabled veterans seem to get respect from everybody but Donald Trump.

You believe that leftist crap, ok

Trump questioned and criticized General Mark Milley's choice to have a disabled soldier sing at a welcome ceremony.

But how do you Because he’s disabled? He said, verbatim, it’s because he’s disabled?

Trump said, "Nobody wants to see that".

Trump disparaged US war dead as ‘losers,’ ‘suckers’

Taken out of context again as usual.

Executing Trump's withdrawal plan from Afghanistan was not going to turn into a stunning defeat of the Taliban.

Funny, not a single person with the exception of this administration is seeing the withdrawal as a success. Yeah, just don’t go there. There’s a reason why this administration won’t talk about one of the worst embarrassment blow to the US geopolitically

The general with his Yankee common sense nailed it: swearing an oath to the constitution makes no provision for wannabe dictators. Trump acted in violation of his own oath from day one. Why are oath-breakers tolerated in both Houses, too? Without legal consequences for these hypocrites nobody can take these oath ceremonies seriously.

I’m sorry, but what does that rant have to do with Miley turning our military into a weak, pathetic and woke former version of itself?

General Mark Milley is not some leftist.

Milley said, his voice booming, the military will protect the Constitution, no matter the personal price

If this were true, they would be in full rebellion against the U.S. government and oligarchy until at least half othe upper echelon were in Guantanamo prison.

Democracy does not need protecting in America. It needs to be created. Anyone who thinks democracy is alive and well in America is ignorant and brainwashed. America is mostly run by unelected corporations and their owners now.

Polls show clearly that the will of the American people is being utterly ignored. Only laws supported by corporations ever pass.

Gen. Mark Milley provides an unsurprising anecdote in which the former president was annoyed by the sight of a disabled veteran.

Personally, I'll remember him as the general who had the stones to stand up to a fascist wannabe dictator like Trump.

Fact check. This is disinformation and you are wrong.

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2020/09/trump-americans-who-died-at-war-are-losers-and-suckers/615997/

Just a week ago, Trump railed against Milley in a post on Truth Social, condemning him as a treasonous, “Woke train wreck” whose actions have been “so egregious that, in times gone by, the punishment would have been DEATH!”

Stuttering "woke" and left" will not change delusion into fact.

Congratulations on disproving your own point! Sheer genius! From your own:

Overblown perceptions of 'wokeness' in the military are making it harder to recruit new people, top Pentagon leader says

Republicans in recent years have increasingly derided the military as "woke

So in other words, the pro-military rightwing morons caused this. Great going. W can really see how they love the US.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Trump a “wannabe dictator”?

Damn straight!

6 ( +8 / -2 )

It has become a really useful way to judge the quality of the person to just see what they have to say about Trump.

Always good to get input from someone who was in the armed forces rather than those who didn’t and just parrot what their political tribe says.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

"Wannabe dictator"! Love it, beyond spot-on. Trump made his big play at becoming one and failed miserably.

Trump dreamt of being like Putin or Kim, that's why he bends over for them.

Thank God that Biden and America realized this and are making good progress towards putting him in jail.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

They don’t so I would assume it’s more hot air bloviating from the Trump hating crowd.

You mean the who don't support a fascist like Trump? Telling on your point.

Phew! That's a deep dive and few will want to go there, but while US democracy is indeed deeply flawed and corrupted and needs a radical overhaul, history teaches that the military is an authoritarian organization, hardly a friend of democracy and, cannot be entrusted to "create" democracy.
