The fact that the attacks were on women suggests men who not only have nothing in common with the general aspirations of German society but who are openly opposed to it. It smacks of rape as a strategy of conflict, designed to humiliate men as much as women by making them feel unable to protect women, as well as the more general attempt to undermine the state by revealing its forces as inadequate. So, while it might not have been planned in detail it seems to have a strategy behind it just looking for an opportunity.

These crimes show the ugliness of muslim-majority countries and the Middle East.

They are a symptom of the way women are treated in many Muslim countries.

The whole episode illustrates the huge gap between these medieval scumbags and the countries who have been duped into helping them.

They should be kicked out immediately.

"Police said the Moroccan, who they said has been involved in various crimes since 2013"

Why hasn't he been kicked out of the country?

Moonraker: It smacks of rape as a strategy of conflict

I don't see that. It appears to be opportunistic and due to basic cultural differences.

Women who walked around ME showing hair and cleavage and legs, through unruly crowds of men, might expect the same treatment over there, as seen at Tarir Square.

I was visiting some Muslim women once, in their living room. One who didn't know I was there walked into the room without hijab (headdress), then ran back around the corner, screaming and jabbering because I saw her hair. In their homeland young orthodox Muslim women DID NOT walk around without hijab.

Contrast that with women walking around in New Year's party-style western dress, in front of young men from the same culture as the young ladies in hijab. May as well have been performing in a strip joint, and complaining that the customers were too boisterous.

It appears Merkel by her policies turned the square in front of the Cologne train station into a no-go zone for last New Year's Eve.

Willing it not to happen won't make it not happen. Expecting the young men to instantly conform to the culture of their new country is wishful thinking.

Also note the highly-skewed gender ratio for recent refugees:

http://time.com/4122186/syrian-refugees-donald-trump-young-men/

In Europe, over 800,000 migrants have traveled to Europe by sea in 2015, according to the United Nations refugee agency, and a little over half have come from Syria. About 62% of all migrants that have traveled to Europe this year, however, are men. A little under a quarter, 22%, are children and only 16% are women.

You don't have to make excuses for them.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

If you come from a society where the sight of a woman's hair, or God forbid her legs, sends you into a frenzy off theft, groping and even rape, then you should be kept on a very short leash. You are obviously not yet developed enough to live in free and liberal Europe.

f you come from a society where the sight of a woman's hair, or God forbid her legs, sends you into a frenzy off theft, groping and even rape, then you should be kept on a very short leash.

Better. The leaders of those countries should not be opening their borders to these animals.

What did obama say, widows? Orphans? He's forgetting to include the young bearded radicals, the ones with images of ISIS flags on their cell phones. The one who shout, "God is great." And now the young islamic men sexually assaulting "infidel" women of the west.

This is the problem when Germany (or Europe for that matter) allows massive influx of immigrants from countries with cultures incompatible with their own. What kind of fantasy world does one inhabit if he thinks there wouldn't be any trouble with this? I mentioned months ago that Merkel's opening the floodgates will be just the beginning of problems for Germany. Expect things to get worse.

Props to Hungary's Viktor Orban for his strict, non-acceptance of these streaming hordes into his country. He, as any one with common sense and reason, saw this coming. Now there's one smart European leader.

. What kind of fantasy world does one inhabit if he thinks there wouldn't be any trouble with this?

Those ones are the libs.

I mentioned months ago that Merkel's opening the floodgates will be just the beginning of problems for Germany.

Yes, you did. A few other posters too.

He, as any one with common sense and reason, saw this coming.

Yeah, but now he will be regarded as a racist or bigot now. The libs will think of something to call him.

Now there's one smart European leader

The leaders of Australia and Japan have also been doing a good job keeping "them" out.

Any culture or 'religion' that requires a women to conceal her femininity under a burqa , simultaneously cowering away in fear of extreme acts of sexual violence must be repudiated, and the perpetrators of these acts irradiated using force if the rules of law proves ineffective.

Senior political figures, European institutions, and sections of the media, defend and justify despicable criminal behavior, through a warped sense of political ideological appeasement. There cowardly spinelessness, the gutless lack of conviction to summon enough courage or integrity to confront this menace of extreme intolerance and wanton criminality, is a heinous betrayal of the freedoms that previous generations sacrificed their lives to defend.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

........just a big elephant in the room passing by.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

If the situation was reversed and a group of white youths committed this act on Muslim women there would be so many apologies, angst and promosises that this is not the real Germany and we welcome you, breast beating and conferences to reassure Muslims etc..........But I'm still waiting for a chorus (not an individual) of Muslim leaders to say what has happened in Cologne and elsewhere is outrageous and the culprits must be found and punished.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

I don't see that. It appears to be opportunistic and due to basic cultural differences.

Bullshit! A bunch of uneducated third world thugs. That's all

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Let' see if the Germans have the bottle to deal with what they have allowed to happen. People painted Geert Wilders as an extremist, but it is now time to accept that the Geert Wilders of this world are the ones who are right. Allowing large numbers of Muslims into Europe is a disastrous mistake.

2 ( +4 / -1 )

No, it is not that time. It's the time to realize that extremism is wrong, no matter which side it comes from.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

Hungary's Viktor Orban for his strict, non-acceptance of these streaming hordes into his country.

Is this a form of extremism? Not accepting hordes of refugees into "his" country because maybe it is in the best interests for the "people" of that country not have "others" living among them.

If that's the case, then I'm an extremist too . . . but no more & no less.

It's the time to realize that extremism is wrong

But these women were sexually assaulted. It is time to realize this was wrong. We should listen to the German people, not Merkel.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Yeah the attacks on the women were definitely wrong, and the attackers should be deported back to Syria as a message to any who may want to copy them. But using this incident to determine policy against all the refugees is extremism, and brings down humanity as a whole.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

But using this incident to determine policy against all the refugees is extremism, and brings down humanity as a whole.

Yeah but its reasonable. It helps the cause when stubborn leaders like Merkel, Kerry / Obama won't listen.

Image if westerners (christian) were arrested in Jakarta for sexually assaulting muslim women, they'd prob be outright executed. The muslim community would explode. Lots of "death" chants and flag-burning.

Then, the leaders of the western culprits would be on CNN apologizing to the world.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Yeah but its reasonable.

No, it's not. It brings humanity a step backwards, at a time when we should be moving forwards. We should be aiming to promote inclusion and tolerance, not expulsion and intolerance. And this goes for both sides.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

This kind of racism is getting up voted! Oh dear, oh dear.

-2 ( +4 / -7 )

" If such a horde gathers in order to commit crimes, that appears in some form to be planned, Justice Minister Heiko Maas told "

It only shows what a secluded life he lives. In the real world, it does not take much planning to arrange a flash mob in a word where everyone has smartphones (and all the immigrants have one, that is another story that the mainstream press never investigates). Hey, lets meet and have some kuffar girl... does not take more than a couple of group messages.

strangerland:

" No, it's not. It brings humanity a step backwards, at a time when we should be moving forwards. We should be aiming to promote inclusion and tolerance, not expulsion and intolerance. And this goes for both sides. "

Well, tell that to the other side. The Europeans have been are going out of their way with their tolerance and inclusion. But political islam wants to rule, not to be included. You might want to read on what its proponents say.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Well, tell that to the other side.

I'm more than happy to. I'm as critical of the bad parts of Islam as I am of the bad parts of the west.

The Europeans have been are going out of their way with their tolerance and inclusion

For the most part I agree, and it's a good thing. But then you have people calling for the lynching, sorry, impeachment of Merkel, and the expulsion and/or rejection of asylum seekers, and I am critical of this.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

No, it's not. It brings humanity a step backwards,

Sharia Law is "backwards." The founding fathers of america would crap their pants if they were to foresee 10 thousand muslim refugees coming to "america."

Freedom, Capitalism, True Democracy and the American way is "a" step forward. Don't believe me? Ask the LGBT, Forbes, and the people who "open carry."

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Sharia Law is "backwards."

Sharia law is also backwards. You don't seem to realize that there can be more ways than one to move backwards. You're just another face of the same problem - intolerance.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

You're just another face of the same problem - intolerance.

LoL. Hey pal . . . & ur just another problem of NOT calling what it "is." I'm from the United States of America. I don't know where you're from Strangerland.

Some people care about their home country. Wh y do you live in Japan and not where you were born?

The problem with the United States of America is that there is way "too much" intolerance. Look what Merkel did to Germany. Kerry / Obama are doing the same. its nonsense. Why don't you agree?

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Strangerland,

I recommended this video before, did you ever watch it?

Maajid Nawaz is talking to you and a couple of other liberal posters here, it almost as if he is reading this forum.

Cultural relativism + sentimentalism + political correctness = Blindness to reality

The West needs more realism and less (often hypocritical) sentimentalism.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

We should be aiming to promote inclusion and tolerance, not expulsion and intolerance.

Seriously... you should be telling this stuff this to the muslims...

Specifically in regard to their attitudes on:

homosexuals

women's rights

apostasy

art/alcohol/music/anything fun

etc

Actually, I'd love to see you try...

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Seriously... you should be telling this stuff this to the muslims...

When I have the opportunity I do. But on top of that we all should be telling this to the Muslims. But the way to tell them to be tolerant isn't by being intolerant, and the way to tell them to be inclusive isn't by being exclusive.

You know that things are getting pretty wild if even the NY Times, the bastion of liberal PC, is getting critical of Germany`s demographic policy;

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/10/opinion/sunday/germany-on-the-brink.html?_r=0

Who would have thunk.

LOL

You are looking at subsidized "sexual terrorism" here, meaning the Gov of Germany and its' people are paying for this type of fear to be instilled among its' populace. One of the worst things that a Gov can do to its' people in my opinion and i hope it never comes to Japan.

In the German case the important number here isn’t the country’s total population, currently 82 million. It’s the twentysomething population, which was less than 10 million in 2013 (and of course already included many immigrants). In that cohort and every cohort afterward, the current influx could have a transformative effect

Hi Zaphod, If this number is correct the political and social demographic consequences will be enormous.

In Riyadh or Tehran maybe, but not Jakarta. Muslim countries in Southeast Asia are not as extreme as those in the Middle East.

Having an identity tag..of 'Muslim' ....says no more about any individual...than 'Christian',etc.... How many of you..questioned and compared religious differences and moralities..as you grew up in one culture or another...making NO choices at all about your religion or ideology?. You just accepted...whatever you were obliged to accept..as the way of life. Muslims, Christians, Bhuddists, atheists...Of course there are people who think and change...but how intelligent is it...to expect refugées arriving ...from war zones..to do so pronto? There's no rational judgements to be made about 'Muslims', and to do so ..shrieks of bigotry. What CAN be discussed..is religious doctrine and its interpretation...and how big differences might affect societies. What clashes are there...between Islam...and Xtianity, Buddhism etc.? Any attempt to install some aspects of Sharia law..in Europe/USA...are guaranteed to cause problems. Sharia law clashes strongly with a number of already established rights and freedoms. Much more serious issues than wearing headscarves or not. A current issue in France...concerns 'halal' meat...with vets as well as the general public..protesting the cruelty of Sharia obligatory, ritual slaughter..while supermarkets cash in... It's important to discuss differences, and refuse to take any steps backwards. There are already academic and in depth examinations and debates...about bringing Islam into 21st century..from Muslims themselves..research http://www.irshadmanji.com/irshad.

Islam never had a Martin Luther figure in the past to question certain things in their holy book as long as the Arab muslims dont do that change will never come and you should because remember "we dont need you,you need us" we can just as easy destroy Islam or help it all depends if the Arabs are willing to change if not pity.
