That’s odd. I heard it was already a done deal and they were drawing up the paperwork and that this would mean “bye bye USD” despite the EU already paying in Euros of course. Was I misled?

Here are 12 billion rubles, which comes out to about 12 bucks.

Bob Fosse - I have noticed a contingent of posters here whose hatred for the US (also NATO, "the West", etc.) seems to override any sympathies they should have for suffering civilians.

Ha ha! Nice try, though.

Let's see what's follow.

G7 can reject, Russia can just turn off the gas, nobody win at the end of the day.

Oh, many of us have been very sympathetic to suffering civilians. Since 2014, and not since a month ago.
And many of us sympathized with suffering Syrians, Iraqis, Afghanis and Yemenis, even though they're not blond or blue-eyed.

The contracts Gazprom signed with EU nations to deliver gas set the price and the method of payment. Russia cannot unilaterally change the terms of those contracts without either opening the whole contract up to renegotiation, or to a legal morass for violating the terms of their contract. Gazprom has significant assets in the west than can be seized to settle a contract dispute.
