“Pres. Trump will fill the Supreme Court vacancy with a conservative justice,”

If the justice is a conservative whose first concern is upholding the Constitution, especially the portions related to separation and balance of powers, that could be fine.

But if Trump/barr/McConnell, the Federalist Society and the Kochs push a candidate who in any way is beholden to them, a candidate who’ll be in their owe and who believes the executive should be allowed even greater powers with Trump in office, the US could well become even more similar to states like Russia, China and Turkey ruled by a ‘strong’ man.

Then the US can wave so long to the remaining bits of democracy granted when the republic was first formed and the corporations run by the 'elite' will be even more powerful and have almost no checks on them.

Then the US can wave so long to the remaining bits of democracy granted when the republic was first formed and the corporations run by the 'elite' will be even more powerful and have almost no checks on them.

That boat sailed a long time ago. The Federal government has powers never even remotely imagined when the republic was first formed. You can’t complain about interference by government while advocating for ever greater control of society and the economy by the government. That gives those seeking influence more avenues to game the system to their advantage. The fact that corruptible politicians are legally able to dole out benefits to corporations itself is a huge problem.

Trump needs to nominate another justice who will limit the powers of government to give favors to elites by reducing instead of expanding the reach of government.

You speak as if Trump will do so. In fact, what has been shown for going on a decade is that the Republican party is no longer the party of limited government, or anything similar. Instead, it is the party of a kleptocracy, where power is up to the highest bidder, and that corporations have the same powers and rights as the average citizen, with none of the duties.

You really, honestly think Trump would actually nominate anyone who would actually reign in the favors to the elites?

If so, I got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you, dirt cheap.

If the justice is a conservative whose first concern is upholding the Constitution, especially the portions related to separation and balance of powers, that could be fine.

And that is what this President is doing right now to do exactly that, uphold the Constitution and safeguard the nation.

The Democrats are on the other hand fine to appoint an activist justice that would erode religious rights, give amnesty to millions of illegals, allow and push for unfettered late term abortion and to abolish the second amendment supported by Soros’s Open Borders Society which would cause irreversible and irreparable damage to a nation that’s already hemorrhaging, they want the country to embrace more radical socialism, bigger and more massive entitlements from cradle to grave and to silence ANY opposition or dissenting voice that would challenge their vision of a Marxist one world order run by oppressive authoritative political bureaucrats.

The Republicans need to bring calm, law and order back to the nation and back to its roots to give power back to the people and to keep our culture and heritage intact and allow people to pursue their dreams, goals and aspirations, allow them to worship the way they want, to eat whatever they want, the way they see fit and not depend on a radicalized government that wants to control every aspect of your life, each person can determine that for themselves and without big government intrusion, this is the fundamental right of every American and that is the true meaning of democracy.

Literally none of that is what is being espoused by the Democratic party, or by any 'liberal' judge. It is, literally, conspiracy level nonsense typed out of whole cloth.

No, it sadly is true. Democrats are not for religious rights, they’re definitely not for the second amendment, they care more about BLM and Antifa rights over the rights of children that can’t speak, they indoctrinate our kids with radical ideas of Marxism and socialism, our kids are taught by political activists and they are taught to hate every aspect of this great nation, they want increased entitlements across the board, they want free education, student loan debt forgiveness, they want Medicare for all and eliminate private healthcare insurance, that is what the Democrat party wants and if they can turn the SC to get a majority all of these fore mentioned would come to fruition.

-5 ( +6 / -11 )

The dark money is rolling in. The socialists are desperate.

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

That’s why the Left is going to go straight to rioting to stop Amy Coney Barrett from becoming the next Supreme Court justice. This is the whole ball of wax. They need committed ideologues on the bench to get their collectivist policies enacted. Without them they are stuck with traditional American government based on limited government, separation of powers, and individual rights.

@Bass4funk

socialism is a radical idea?????

Hello???

Helllllooo????

Massive corporate bailouts IS socialism. That’s what Dump is all about: corporate socialism.

This irrational fear and paranoia about the ‘s’ word for seppos is just ridiculous given most of you have benefited from some form of socialism in your lives.

“Time to apply maximum pressure so that they do the right thing & refuse to vote to confirm before the 2020 election.”

Yeah? Here's a tweet from Chucky Schumer in Feb. 2016:

"Attn GOP: Senate has confirmed 17 #SCOTUS justices in presidential election years.

DoYourJob"

Oops.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

socialism is a radical idea?????

Yes.

And the bigger meaning to that is blanketed entitlements from cradle to grave.

Medicare for all? Who’s going to pay?

Free education? Who’s going to pay?

Student loan debt forgiveness? Who’s going to pay?

Entitlements for everyone? Who’s going to pay?

The Green New Deal? Who’s going to pay?

Add it all up and even if the Dems were to tax all the richest people in the country, it still wouldn’t even come close to paying for all of these socialist madness ideas.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

Good. Take back the White House and the Senate.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

P. Smith:. Hopefully, RBG’s deaths causes some republican senators to remember they have some decency and aren’t utter hypocrites

Um, yeah. That's not gonna happen. They will be hypocrites and will smile about it.

Unless it’s to tell a woman what to do with her body or tell schools to teach religious nonsense as science

No, nice liberal failed tactic, but I do have a serious question, what reason would any woman have to end a full term pregnancy, again I’m talking specifically about full term, a child that can breath on its own out of the womb and that’s fully developed? At that point, why not give it up for adoption, to people that would love to have a child or a family that can’t have one, why kill it?

As for religion, I never said kids should learn religion in the schools, but liberals shouldn’t attack ANY child for their religious beliefs or what they wear (as in religious symbols) what is wrong with saying the “Pledge of allegiance?” Never hurt me or most Americans, if you don’t like it, sit down or don’t utter the words, we don’t need it canceled. Let people determine what’s best for them. We are not kids and the government doesn’t need to dictate to us how we should think or what to think.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

The American people are perfectly capable of having their say on this issue.

Oh, stop! If the Dems controlled the Senate and Obama were President and Reid controlled the Senate, you honestly think those two would even listen to that same message? We should let the people decide? Really? There is No way on God’s green earth that the Dems would waste this moment, they wouldn’t, you know it, I know it, they know it and the country knows it!

I definitely think they should move forward with this and Trump and McConnell should fill the seat immediately.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

Good. Take back the White House and the Senate.

Take back the House.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

It won’t matter. Even if Trump and the senate cannot confirm a new justice before the election, they still have plenty of time before next January. Whoever Trump chooses will certainly become the next justice.

If Trump wins, the 9th Circuit Court is his next goal. In his first term he has lowered the liberal majority in the 9th from 11 justices to 3, and if he is re-elected, the 9th will no longer be a liberal court.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

But I thought there are no "Trump judges" or "Obama judges", right?

So there would be no problem with our President confirming a new judge.

Why would Democrats be fundraising off this death? What are they donating to and for?

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

The fact that you the terms "liberal, socialist, Marxist" interchangeably shows nothing but your massive ignorance and lack of erudition.

Go down the list and ask who will pay for a new weapons system that the military says it does not want but is still approved because of corporate welfare.

Or a bailout of Wall Street.

Or subsidies to Big Ag.

You have payed and because it is Trump you will do so with a smile.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

With the sudden demise of its most illustrious member the crisis in the Supreme Court has now reached its apogee. This is the tipping point and since their representatives seem incapable of doing it, the American people will have to act decisively: either remove the corrupt Republican senate and drain the "Supreme Swamp", followed by the abolition of the Electoral College and the elimination of gerrymandering and voter suppression, or else lose their republic and their citizen rights to the rule of right-wing extremists.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

A lot cheaper than trying to sustain the entire 320 billion on government subsidies for each person from cradle to grave. If it weren’t for Silicon Valley and Hollywood, California would be a 3rd world for sure. Also, let’s not forget we do have rouge nations that would attack us if they could and having an outdated military is a dream for these nations.

Bass:. If it weren’t for Silicon Valley and Hollywood, California would be a 3rd world for sure.

Well said.

Who cares... The USA is third world armpit anyway... Fun to watch it self destruct

....And the rest of the globe will follow because when America sneezes, everyone catches a cold.

The third world states of the US are overwhelmingly Republican.

And now the rich liberals are moving to them trying to get away from their own Frankenstein they created, but they'll have to learn how to enjoy eating meat and good BBQ from now on. ROFL!

There aren't many conservativesatives here. They need to stack the deck in their favor or else we would have no one to talk to.

This irrational fear and paranoia about the ‘s’ word for seppos is just ridiculous given most of you have benefited from some form of socialism in your lives.

The government takes money from you and gives you a “benefit” that you didn’t ask for and you brand the powerless individual a socialist? It’s not like the people have a choice. Can we be pro-choice over whether or not we must participate in these ever growing government programs that require deficits to sustain? Unfortunately individuals aren’t given that option. It’s why the Progressives/ Socialists need to control the courts - in order to force citizens to to be involuntary collectivists.

Ginsburg’s passing is terrifying for Progressives - it means that the Supreme Court might begin rolling back government claims on people’s labor. If Amy Coney Barrett gets on the court before the election the Left will become even more violent and radical than they already are. They are authoritarian by nature and under pressure they become even more so. It’s going to be a wild next two months.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

All Republicans care about in electing a new Supreme Court Justice is someone who will overturn all civil rights laws made and take away the freedoms and powers of the people away from them and give it back to the government. That way, they can control what people say and what people do. To me, that is not democracy. Republicans' view of the world is outdated and archaic.

Is it any wonder why Trump and his people admire the autocracies of Putin and Kim Jong Un? In Trump's world, women are simply sexual objects and vessels for babies, and minorities should have less rights than white people. Sorry to burst your conservative bubble, but that's not how the world works. Women and minorities are people too. They are not objects to be used at your discretion.

Rest in peace, thank you for your service to America.

Constitutions are tools of the ruling classes. The US constitution itself is just a political football in a game with no rules, or in the words of former Republican president, G.W.Bush, "just a goddamn piece of paper". The Dems now have an opportunity to restore some dignity to the venerated document that the Republicans of late have so cynically abused and desecrated and the democratic spirit of which RBG fought to uphold to her dying breath when she wrote that only the next duly elected president should nominate her successor.

"what is wrong with saying the “Pledge of allegiance?....

the government doesn’t need to dictate to us how we should think or what to think."

Giving people words to memorise and recite is literally dictating, the purpose being to make it into what they think.
