The media is gonna have a field day with this one. The police once again gotten themselves into a big mess.

Someone acting erratically and assaulting another person with a bicycle lock does not require this level of ‘policing’.

Now a child is dead again because of trigger happy gun culture.

Taser first, and first check it’s a taser.

Outrageous and despicable behaviour yet again by US police. They clearly recruit the lowest of the low in that nation.

And I bet this child killer cop will have a million dollar defense, and all the support of the police department. He will likely get a light sentence - if anything.

Rest in Peace to the poor innocent girl.

So tragic, so unfortunate.

Was the officer drug tested and breathalyzed? Drinking and doping on the job is far more common than you might think.

Irrational behaviour by such highly trained professionals should be investigated with a fine tooth comb.

@Bob Fosse

I 100% agree with both of your posts.

Especially with that sentence:

*Now a child is dead again because of *trigger happy gun culture

How dangerous to live in an thirdworldish democracy where your life is in danger every day due to racial intolerance, political division, corrupt health system, lost war on drugs, armed militias, police brutality and the immense armed violence and happytrigger culture..

Terrible. The police didn’t even have to shoot, because the guy wasn’t armed.

All the pro-conservative military crowd down voting those who question US gun violence. Pathetic.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

The perp wasn't even armed so why did the cops draw their weapons? Why didn't they consider non-lethal weapons like tran guns or tasers? A girl is dead because they shot first and asked questions later. How will they ever hope to compensate the family of the girl whose life they so carelessly ripped away?

People will constantly wax poetic about the courage of cops, and yet those same people will cry about how they were “scared for their lives” whenever a cop shoots someone for existing in their vicinity.

The 14 year old victim was BEHIND a WALL. Let me know how well your x-ray vision is to know if anyone is behind a solid opaque object. As for the erratic behaviour of the aggressor, you have no idea how little time one may have to identify what kind of object anyone is carrying when they are actively attacking someone else.

Yes it is bad that the 14 year old was killed, but considering the factors at play here while tragic, were not intentional.

Sad story, but if American cops hadn't switched from serve and protect to serve and protect themselves, maybe that girl would still be alive.

The bullies from high school are back — and this time they have guns!

A couple of thoughts here. The US is awash with guns. In many places you can buy a gun as easily as groceries. Some people have armories of weapons, dozens even hundreds of them. They are bought and traded all over the US with no control. Yes there are laws on the books but too many gun owners so resent those laws they willingly and knowingly, even gleefully, break those laws asserting the gub'ment has no right to tell them what to do with their guns.

As a result, the police start to treat everyone they come in contact with as potentially someone who could kill them. For some big cities like LA the police start to see everyone on the street as a threat. There are no more innocent people on the street, just potential threats. We in the US have kind of done this to ourselves with our affinity for guns. Many police forces now assume someone exhibiting violent behavior is armed even if they are not and, claiming the officer feared for his or her life and using the Supreme Court's rulings on "qualified immunity" for police officers cops often shoot at the first hint of fear and worry about cleaning up the mess they make later on. We have people with mental illness getting shot by police. We have autistic kids who are having a melt down at age 6 getting handcuffed and stuffed into the back of a squad car. The police in the US seem to spend their entire day scared to death of the people they are sworn to serve. All you hard core 2nd Amendment gun rights, cough cough, "defenders" own a piece of this. If this nation wasn't awash in guns and if gunplay wasn't so common our police would not be so quick to reach for their firearms at the least provocation.

There are handgun rounds that are very lethal to humans but do not penetrate drywall. It's called a Glaser Safety Slug. It is a frangible bullet. It has a polymer cap and is filled with either no 6 or no 12 birdshot. If it hits a human it produces a deep wound as the pellets expanding after impact. But it does not ricochet or penetrate drywall or sheet metal, making it safe to use in indoor settings. I have no idea why police officers are not issued this round as it would have prevented this tragedy from occurring.
