The numbers just released by CDC seem to paint a different picture.

20% of which is in Trump's America.

Honestly it amazing how well Japan has fared so far.
Because of the hard work and of the Japanese people and the great leadership of the Japanese government. We are an amazing country and people.

With... what... near 25% in the US alone?

RIP to all victims. Sad think is we still don't know what happened in Wuhan and therefore we cannot take any learnings going forward
Wakarimasen
so 1 in 7800 or 0.012% of the worlds population. All sad of course but has it really justified the havoc governments have wrought on the people?

Japan has a very low percentage of people with vitamin D deficiency, I'm assuming it's because of all the fish they're eating. In contrast, Italy has a very high percentage, and they did not do very well.

And we are just starting the second wave...(which many experts agree is going to be worse than the first)

I think the main reason is that people have pretty much bought into taking as many safety precautions as necessary. At least where I live, everywhere I go there are alcohol dispensers before you enter shops and other businesses, and many shops have staff taking your temperature and it's rare to see anyone not wearing a mask. People also pretty much keep their distance. I think its mainly in the congested parts of Tokyo where there are some idiots not wearing masks and getting together in large groups, increasing the number of cases.
Jimizo
Agreed.
I’d add wear a mask, pay attention to hygiene, ignore people who post simplistic nonsense based on politics rather than science and, of course, steer clear of conspiracy theories.

Hope nationalism will stop creeping into every covid-19 discussion, it is unfortunate even the media is using it as a tool of nationalism. There is no gold, silver and bronze for countries that have successfully contained the virus. Nationalism helps deviate attention to the fight this deadly virus.

Luckily the whole worlds population has not been infected, as the deaths are 1 for every 33 people infected.
33 million infected world wide with 1 million deaths. If 7.8 billion had been infected then we would be looking at 264 million deaths. Potentially. So it is a good thing most governments take this serious and yes it is worth any temporary loss of economy.
Do the hustle
Where are all the conspiracy theorists claiming the virus pandemic is a scam?

Notice that we did not have a hard lockdown and draconian mask enforcement here, like e.g. in Melbourne.
Just some recommendations, common sense, and a generally healthy population.

The the numbers are total BS we cannot trust CDC or any government company anymore.

Some people have the nonsensical belief that Trump is responsible for the pandemic. China is the source of the virus. The Chinese communist government halted domestic travel but allowed international travel. But sure, there was Trump in a lab in Wuhan creating the covid virus and “colluding” with the Chinese to export it to kill Americans. Come on man!

Thats called CFR, and which is exactly that of the flu. (case fatality rate) i.e. serious enough that you go to hospital or diagnosed by a physician.
what you and others astonishingly continue to ignore months after this has been explained is IFR (infection fatality rate). An infection is when the virus gets into the body and the body produces antibodies and fights it off. Usually mild or asymptomatic, no need for a hospital visit.
The flu's IFR is 1 tenth of 1 percent. One out of a thousand........99.9 survival rate.
Covid 19 is almost exactly the same.
CFR vs IFR.
Enough already.

bob. Present and reporting for duty.
Although just to clarify, it didn't start out as a scam. It started out as pure terror out of ignorance. It then devolved into a scam by a cowed populace, hyperventilating media enjoying the clicks, and politicians with fascist zeal.
Bob Fosse
Nobody has said that trump is responsible for the pandemic. Nobody. Not one person on this forum, except you.
Come on man!
cleo
I've never seen that argument put forward before.
No one - as far as I know, maybe you talk to different people - is saying that Trump is responsible for the pandemic, or responsible for the virus.
What Trump is responsible for is the US response to the outbreak of Covid-19.
He is responsible for disbanding the White House pandemic response team in 2018.
He is responsible for claiming in January that the outbreak was 'totally under control... it's going to be just fine' ; in February, 'We pretty much shut it down', 'when it gets a little warmer, it goes away'. 'This is a flu'; in March, 'We've stopped it', ' We've done a great job'.
In April, the day after the US death toll passed 20,000; 'I guess I'm doing OK.'
In July, the day after the US death toll passed 130,000; 'I think we are in a good place.'
In August; 'It is what it is.' 'Right now I think it's under control'
In September 'I think that we've probably done the best job of any country.'
Covid 19 in the US has been a disaster, made worse by the refusal of Trump to follow the advice of the experts.

false. This is a "we didn't land on the moon conspiracy theory easily debunked. But you know that.

The quotes you supply mirror exactly the same situation everywhere around the world. No one knew what we were dealing with. It also shows a leader being a leader in not panicking and showing calm.
Another falsehood. Both chief medical officers Birx and Fauci have consistently been quoted as saying the President listened to and heeded their advice.

I question what effect the mugí & green tea have. They’re antioxidants. Never mentioned as beneficial in fighting COVID-19 but I see this as one difference In the culture.

Isn’t it incredible how you can predict the response of people of a certain political persuasion to scientific matters?
I’m glad I didn’t study with them.

I know that is the slogan bandied about, but it is false. He followed followed the advice of the experts and did the best that could be expected at that the time. Remember that everybody was fumbling with the new situation at the time. And when Trump already acted, his political opponents were still busy with their impeachment scam and playing down Corona (remember Pelosi inviting everyone to Chinatown for some virtue-signalling?)
Other than that, the main criticism seems to be that he is overly optimistic. Well, that is part of the job. You do not want a president who spreads panic with gloom and doom talk.
I am all for legitimate criticism, but these fake talking points are tiring.
Jimizo
Clearly. The numbers are sickening. His approval rating on Covid started pretty well but went down the toilet. Other leaders oversaw much better numbers and saw their political stock rise as a result.
The buck stops at the top. Leadership was stress tested. Some buckled.
Weak.
