Wow, talk about nonsensical scare tactics. Warming results in greater productivity. Cooling has the opposite effect. Interesting how they're reversing things now. Pathetic as well. Wonder how many of the chicken little crowd will buy into this one as well?

I think they're ignoring the elephant in the room with regards to future food production. Once oil supplies are exhausted, industrialized food production and distribution will grind to a halt. The current system is so oil reliant, from pesticides and fertilizers, to farm machinery and water pumps. And that's just growing the food, distribution and refrigeration needs massive amounts too.

If only because Lefty politicians can use "global warming" as justification for even more intervention in markets and lifestyles. Duh.

Leave millions of children hungry and starving by 2050? Like if our world already does not have millions of hungry starving children and adults all over the world now? Time to not just do something about global warming, but maybe learn from China, 1 family, 1 kid at max.

Food scarcity nonsensical spook, may be for fishing in EU. There no scarcity of imported fish in EU.

Food price is going up,but there is a glut in some places.

There is glut of milk in USA,causing big loss for farmers. Small nation like New Zealand, has so much milk to sell.

2050 will come, there is no fear, when it comes, for all well organised nations. Nations with low quality, leadership and plenty of woes,is the problem.

China has shown, that high population is not a problem.

Anyway if China was 10 nations,it will just have the population of japan in each of them.

China 1 child per family, will reduce and make China's population more developed in future.

Population in japan is at standstill,is not rising, due to it being a very developed nation. India's population is a vegetarian one and in warmer zone,so it much easier to feed its population and keep its people cozy.

The USA has 35-40 million below poverty line, due to USA's self created inflation, making living expenses ,high for their poor.

May be this 40 million US poor citizens, need to migrate.

Global warming could double food prices

Good God, are they now blaming inflation on global warming?!

What a bunch of bull. Countries closer to the poles will become the new bread baskets.

See all the posters accepting the worst case scenario and still saying they don't care. Deflection. Denial.

JRaustralia, I see the phrase "real prices" sprinkled throughout the article, so I don't think they are talking nominal prices here. If it were nominal, then COULD in the headline would be WILL.

cool. so could corn ethanol as fuel.

oops... is eco good or bad???

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yeah, they're just making it all up, no need to worry about it or adjust your lifestyle, just wait till everything is beyond repair

U-hu... Well, wait and see as this info becomes "WILL" to prophets of global warming.

Till then....

I think Knackerz is correct, it won't be global warming that causes food prices to double, it will be input costs, petroleum, potash, etc. Global warming may or may not be coming, but it certianly keeps the rich in the money. Energy efficiency is now assocaited with global warming and lefty hippy environuts , instead of being assocaited with engery dependence and cost stability. Those who own O&G shares are laughing all the way to the bank, well the sheeples' eyes remained covered by wool.

Global warming(Climate change) and fewer availability of human consumable "fresh water".

Already been predicted years ago that "fresh water" shortage will cause more wars than the oil shortage. Started already in some regions.

Example: Look at the big lakes in the USA, the water no longer supports life and cannot be consumed by humans.

Yet, we still use water that can be consumed to flush toilets, fill our baths, etc.

that should be engery independence*

lesgrande - Yeah, they're just making it all up, no need to worry about it .......

Yes, that pretty much sums up the whole UN/IPCC, man-made CO2 crisis. As one of the "climategate" scientist's emails said, "We know the planets getting warmer - we just CAN'T prove it."

You forgot to include additional fees, that the econuts are trying to get imposed. The whole carbon trading scheme for example.

Really? Are you talking about the great lakes? Cause if so, you don't have a clue what you're talking about. Great Lakes water is mostly what people drink around there. And while some of the lakes were once in pretty bad shape, the clean water act among others, has really resulted in a huge cleanup. The great lakes have no problem supporting life. I don't know of any other 'big lakes' you might be referring to. Please, be a bit more specific here.

zenny11, I believe you to be in error, I was once employed to take water samples of the great lakes, and they are far cleaner then they were in the 1970's. drinkable and the fishing is great. Great Northern Pike population is doing well.

Anything that causes/forces enegry efficiencies is not a bad thing; yes it expensives now, but it will become cost effective, when fuel prices continue to increase going forward into the future. One of best bamboozles in recent times, is to make enegry efficiencies a gray area issue linked to global warming, instead of what it should be, a proactive cost saving issue. Gas prices will raise again to the point will people can not afford to fill their SUV's, people have to give up their Subuaban homes to live closer to work and food prices skyrocket(like in 2008).

We cause destruction of our planet and our bodies UNNECESSARILY. We are making jobs just for the sake of making jobs, seeking riches while destroying ourselves.

The only sustainable and reasonable solution is back out of the enslaving employment lifestyle that causes world problems. We can turn to a garden paradise lifestyle with trees, plants and pets that provide fresh food around us. That quickly, fairly, easily and inexpensively solves "climate change" and pollution to our air, land, water and food that makes young and old diseased, energy crisis, war, immigration, reoccurring financial crises, inequality, and expensive social welfare programs at the same time. Any other solution causes other problems, takes away our freedoms and is not even a good delay.
