"What greater pleasure can there be for a true-born Englishman or true-born Englishwoman than to listen to our own national anthem —a national anthem for our whole country, our whole United Kingdom,” Rees-Mogg said."

I suppose you have to pity someone who can't imagine a greater pleasure than that. That aside, a national anthem without in your face royalist or religious sentiments would be preferable. Land of Dope and Tories is a bit of a dirge and Jerusalem's lyrics are howling at the moon lunacy.

As so often, Billy Connolly has the perfect solution:

This poor man needs a life transplant.

Yes indeed, and not only for sporting events.

Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater...

Just looking at the photo and thinking the genes our male royals have along with Harry's choice of stimulant, 'Land of Dope and Baldies' could be a nod to the monarchy.

That follicularly-challenged Welshman doesn't fool hipster Henry.

They could go for a folk song. Scotland's national anthem is meant to be "Scotland the Brave", which is very upbeat and when played by a full pipe band lifts the kilt... then some time ago the Corries' "Flower of Scotland" became the unofficial anthem as played at sporting events such as international rugby matches. It's a bit of a dirge though.

England should also go for a folk song... but one that's a bit more cheery... or a sea shanty.

Scotland and Wales have their own official songs

This is not strictly true, at least in the case of Scotland. There is no "official" anthem in Scotland. Flower of Scotland seems to have become an unofficial anthem at sports events, although many people hate it.

When I was a kid, Scots Wha Hae was considered the national anthem.

Have the BNP evolved to the point of using thumbs-down?

Impressive.

@Jimizo

BNP? I was thinking perhaps Prince Phillip had started using the internet. (It would be an honour to be thumbed down by him.)
