The entire process that the Democrats yielded onto this president has been unfair.

Nah, all based in the constitution, and set out by the founding fathers.

You're making the assumption that Republicans would be upset if the Senate's trial would be delayed.

Doesn't really matter whether the Republicans are upset. It only matters whether the people are upset - and they would have been way more upset with a trial than with none. Now the parties can focus on the campaign.

I know the Democrats have their campaign strategy planned out.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Numan - has gained traction among some of the political left as a way of potentially forcing Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to conduct a trial on more favorable terms for Democrats. And if no agreement is reached, some have argued, the trial could be delayed indefinitely, denying Trump an expected acquittal.

You're making the assumption that Republicans would be upset if the Senate's trial would be delayed. The longer team Pelosi delays the start of the Senate trail, the longer Democrats, and Hillary-worshippers, will have to wait for their long held desire for Trump to be removed from office. And that the possibility of removal will overshadow the continually boring Democrat candidate debates, and campaigns. Republicans, OTOH, understand that Democrats have reached their peak. There is nothing Democrats can do at this point to change the outcome of the Senate trial. The Democrats simply could not make a legitimate, or honest, effort to make their case. Based on what little actual evidence the Democrats provided, neither of their charges warrant a finding of guilty. It won't matter how long Pelosi drags this out.

It's great that the Democrats held their cards close to their chest, and let the Pubs go on about how they wouldn't even bother to give a proper trial. Give a man enough rope...

it’s even greater to know that McConnell will acquit the president.

Today is the first day of 5 more years of Trump, thanks, you stupid Dems.

Can’t argue that. They made it too easy for Trump. Lol

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Either way, Trump was impeached and his legacy sealed, so there is no losing for the Democrats.

Americans do like an underdog though

That's what will happen. No one has ever thought there was any realistic prospect of the senate actually giving this a proper and fair hearing. Why would anyone waste the time, money, and effort to bother doing so?

Exactly, why would anyone waste time when the entire thing is a complete scam. The entire process that the Democrats yielded onto this president has been unfair. The Democrats are just stupid, they know as soon as this gets to the Senate it’s either DOA or it’s going to go through a trial, that they don’t like and that they have no control over, despite what Chuck Schumer thinks, the Democrats had the chance they were the prosecution they could not make a case it now it goes before the jury and it is really ironic that at least four of these candidates, these four leading Democrat white candidates will be sitting on the jury panel for Trump. Lol

I understood this idiotic idea perfectly. it’s still a dumb idea today.

For the idea to be dumb, it would have to have a politically negative effect.

How does this action have a negative effect politically for the Democrats? You people keep saying this is dumb or stupid, but you haven't explained why.

It's sounding like you're just bitter that Pelosi outmaneuvered Trump.

However, Trump would remain President, and the people would have an opportunity to be able to vote for who they want as President.

Sounds like a win-win!

Total win-win. Either a fair trial is held, or the Republicans prove they are not willing to hold a fair trial.

Either way, Trump was impeached and his legacy sealed, so there is no losing for the Democrats.

Our Pubs on the site for some reason think that the American people don't deserve a transparent and open trial. Trump 2020 #PwrB4Ppl

A nice point of fact is that the Senate need not wait for the Articles to be "transmitted" to put the charade of charges to a vote. Merry Christmas! Trump IS and will CONTINUE to be PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! MAGA 2020!

@Herve

Obviously, you don't know how the impeachment process works!

This will blow over so fast.

:)

Like Blacklabel didn't understand yesterday and Bass today, some House Democrats are pushing Speaker Nancy Pelosi to withhold the articles of impeachment that were approved by the House Wednesday, an idea that has been championed by Harvard Law School Professor Laurence Tribe. (What are your legal qualifications, posters?)

The notion of impeaching Trump but holding the articles in the House, which could delay a trial in the Senate for months, has gained traction among some of the political left as a way of potentially forcing Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to conduct a trial on more favorable terms for Democrats. And if no agreement is reached, some have argued, the trial could be delayed indefinitely, denying Trump an expected acquittal.

However, Trump would remain President, and the people would have an opportunity to be able to vote for who they want as President.

Trump has not been legally impeached.

Semantics. The footnote to his legacy is sealed either way.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

I love how the Dems insisted that they had to impeach Trump right away but now refuse to submit it to the Senate. I think the goal now is to continue to use it as a political whip all the way up to the election.

Right! It's brilliant!

In that case I think the Republican Senate should refuse to take it up

Um, say what? How can they refuse something that isn't offered to them? That's like you saying no to the piece of cake I haven't offered you.

And if it does get sent to them, they can't legally refuse to take it up.

the impeachment legislation will lapse when the new Congress is seated in 2021. It will essentially become null and void legislation.

That's what will happen. No one has ever thought there was any realistic prospect of the senate actually giving this a proper and fair hearing. Why would anyone waste the time, money, and effort to bother doing so?

Sadly racking up trillions in additional debt isn’t always directly impacting on the economy

Who cares about 'always'. In this case, Trump has taken money out on the credit card (adding to the debt) and used that to pump up the economy. Look how well that worked for Bush, and the results in 2008.

seems to have no effect on a Presidents prospects for re-election.

Hard to say. With Bush, the explosion of the economy didn't fare well for him. That said, it's hard to say that the reason the people were so happy to get rid of him and his cronies was because of their warring.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Things are getting absolutely embarrassing for inept Pelosi and Co and the media. They can't win for losing.

2016 shock spectacular election fail and meltdown reaction.

Sexual impropriety accusations against Trump spectacular fail.

Stormy Daniels accusations spectacular fail.

Russia collusion Mueller report spectacular fail.

Sexual assault accusations and opposition to Brett Kavanah nomination spectacular fail.

Impeachment spectacular fail and backfire to help ensure Trump 2020 election.

Etc.

Trump =Road Runner

Dems and Media =Wile E Coyote

For goodness sake Dems, please finally learn your lesson and get back to work on behalf of the working class like you used to a generation ago!

Trump has not been legally impeached.

"Trump Isn’t Impeached Until the House Tells the Senate"

-Noah Feldman (one of the witnesses summoned by the Democrats, constitutional lawyer)

https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2019-12-19/trump-impeachment-delay-could-be-serious-problem-for-democrats

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

This will blow over so fast. While the Dems carry on with this farce and hopelessly trying to get McConnell to change the Senate rules, Trump is out their working for the people, let the Democrats dig their own political graves, they don’t need help they’re doing a great at it themselves.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

As I said before, they'll throw the constitution out the window if its not to their party's convenience. GOP putting Party before country, president before party, and everything before the people they have a sworn oath to do their constitutionally mandated job but would rather play dictatorship power grab for themselves.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Oh, I've known the Republican party was far past gone when they decided to make Trump their "God Emperor". The smart Republicans left the party ASAP leaving only the tyrannical greedy old fools stay in place to carry Trump on their shoulders to the scummy pedestal they think the majority of Americans are dumb enough to worship. They've destroyed the foundations of the party with their own hands.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

There seems to be doubt now if Trump is actually impeached yet now that a decision was made to not send the articles in a timely manner.

seems Dems did have time to wait for the court to supposedly force Bolton and Pompeo to testify after all. Too late for that now, big fail.

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

Trump’s taking the impeachment in stride, almost like a badge of honor.

No doubt, just like his Access Hollywood Grab'Em tape, the fact that 26 women have accused him of sexual assault, saying some white supremacists were "very fine people", insulting a Gold Star Family, and last night disparaging the legacy of John Dingell.

He has no decency, he has no shame...he's a disgusting excuse for a human being...

5 ( +10 / -5 )

I bet Nansi and deemos team will impeach President Trump again in 2020. So hello CNN and MSNBC get ready for a next impeachment circus in 2020. Welcome to Democrat, cat or rat for never ending impeachment ..... What a shame to USA.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

Bloomberg News opinion column.

“If the House does not communicate its impeachment to the Senate, it hasn’t actually impeached the president. If the articles are not transmitted, Trump could legitimately say that he wasn’t truly impeached at all.

That’s because “impeachment” under the Constitution means the House sending its approved articles of to the Senate, with House managers standing up in the Senate and saying the president is impeached”

its a process, not just a vote.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

The repubs are off their rockers, this totally means they do NOT give a damn about their own constitution or their own COUNTRY!!! Truly insane!

An impeachment for a crime that did not actually occur in a partisan and unfair inquisition is a better indication of a party that is off their rockers and do not give a damn about their own Constitution.

Trump questions Biden’s quid pro quo to hold the $1 billion appropriated by Congress for the Ukraine, a nation at war, unless the Ukrainians fire the prosecutor going after his sons company and he is the bad guy??? VP Biden’s actions in his official capacity, in person, in the lead up to the 2016 election were actually corrupt but he should be allowed to get away with it? Trump - who the Ukrainians day is innocent - is to be held to account? It is insane.

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

Just goes to show how low the GOP has sunk from a party of conservative values to a party of no values.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Even the Evangelicals don't want to have anything to do with Donny.

When the Bible thumping bigots decide they don't want anything to do with you, it shows you are in deep trouble.

Refreshing to see Lindsey standing up to Donny!!

This article included the long debunked tripe, "a phone call in which Trump tried squeezing Ukraine's new president to announce an investigation into Democrats", or is that trope...

A nice point of fact is that the Senate need not wait for the Articles to be "transmitted" to put the charade of charges to a vote. Merry Christmas! Trump IS and will CONTINUE to be PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! MAGA 2020!

Stranger: Which will act in the reverse direction when it actually comes time to pay the money he's racking up on the debt, over $20 trillion now.

Sadly racking up trillions in additional debt isn’t always directly impacting on the economy and seems to have no effect on a Presidents prospects for re-election. However at some point the free lunch will eventually come to an end. When and how suddenly that occurs is unknowable.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

The President commits multiple crimes against his own country, playing politics with foreign states for his own gain and the Republican Party says may I have another. Republicans disconnected from reality many, many years ago, from truth decades ago and have become the party of pure insanity. So clear in this latest response to facts, facts that republicans just cannot understand. If they had any sense of shame they should show that now but of course that will not happen as they have been dumbed down to such a low level they now only do and feel what Fox News tells them to do and feel.

5 ( +11 / -6 )

A bipartisan minority opposed the partisan mob that impeached the president who did not ever bother to cite a single criminal statute in their two generic impeachment articles - a first in American history.

I love how the Dems insisted that they had to impeach Trump right away but now refuse to submit it to the Senate. I think the goal now is to continue to use it as a political whip all the way up to the election. In that case I think the Republican Senate should refuse to take it up and the impeachment legislation will lapse when the new Congress is seated in 2021. -6 ( +4 / -10 )

Trump runs the GOP like a dictatorship. Speak out, get axed. If the impeachment ballots were secret he'd be gone in a heartbeat.

2 ( +9 / -7 )

I am afraid Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, could well have effectively, pulled the Congressional/Senate rug right from under, U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi feet.

I remember a nursery rhyme, as children we sang at kindergarten........

Oh, the grand old Duke of York,

He had ten thousand men,

He marched them up to the top of

The hill and he marched

Them down again.

And when they were up they were up.

And when they were down they were down.

And when they were only half way up,

They were neither up nor down.

U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic-led House, could well succumb to the same fate. What a farce indeed.

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

Immediately following the House vote on the articles of impeachment, Twitter erupted in jubilant celebration. Tweet after tweet (with blue check marks in abundance) rejoiced at the news that the evil orange man had been finally and rightfully booted from office. People were and probably still are happy, happy happy.

If there was ever a better example of the Dunning-Kruger Effect, I haven't seen it.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

The Republican leaders have become nothing more than the tools of a tyrant. The party will never be the same. It is no longer relevant in a free society.

0 ( +9 / -9 )

Almost unbelievable how Pelosi and the Dems have shot themselves in the foot with this impeachment circus act. They've exposed their disregard for the improved welfare of the people for all to see and given Trump the best Christmas gift he could have dreamed of, guaranteed re-election in 2020.

-3 ( +7 / -10 )

The economy is booming in the US! NADAQ up 33% this year. Other US Stock indexes are way up too. Election years like 2020 almost always have rising economies.

Which will act in the reverse direction when it actually comes time to pay the money he's racking up on the debt, over $20 trillion now.

3 ( +10 / -7 )

The Republicans have been going too far with this Trump impeachment. They have been calling it a crime akin to the holocaust, 9/11, and more.

0 ( +7 / -7 )

he economy is booming in the US!

as the income gap widens, as buying power decreases, as costs of living increase, as little is done about healthcare, as infrastructure projects stall, as environmental regulations are scrapped, as worker and consumer protections are eliminated.

For most U.S. workers, real wages have barely budged in decades https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/08/07/for-most-us-workers-real-wages-have-barely-budged-for-decades/

6 ( +11 / -5 )

This impeachment farce is convincing swing and working class voters more than ever that the Dems don't care about them anymore. They're attempting to remove from office the president who has delivered them jobs, food on the table, sensible border security, etc, etc.

Even the polls are showing increased support for Trump. And if the polls show that then brace for a Trump landslide in 2020.

-3 ( +7 / -10 )

The economy is booming in the US! NADAQ up 33% this year. Other US Stock indexes are way up too. Election years like 2020 almost always have rising economies.

Remember when Bush-I lost over the economy? Republicans do too. The economy, stupid.

If the same economic results with President Pence was possible, then the GOP would find Trump guilty.

I can almost, almost, afford to pay the ACA insurance rates - which increased $100+/month against this year in my household. Another $1200/yr gone - thanks Democrats.

-6 ( +6 / -12 )

The Democrats have embolden Trumps base so much, that even the liberal reporting doesn't quite know what to make of it. Pelosi took a gamble and lost big time in the court of public opinion, and @CS you are in fact correct, the Republicans did free the slaves, why you would be down voted makes no sense to me. I guess the down voter likes slavery or doesn't understand history?

-1 ( +8 / -9 )

Is it "Happy Impeachment" or is it "Merry Impeachment?"

Try the Tokyo version: "Merry Happy Impeachement!"

5 ( +9 / -4 )

“A political faction in the lower chamber has succumbed to partisan rage," said McConnell

Moscow Mitch, don't cast this as something that's new or unique. In 1998, the Republican-led House voted overwhelmingly to impeach Bill Clinton over what was, essentially, lying about infidelity. Only 5 Repubs and 5 Democrats crossed party lines in the votes on 2 of the articles (the others the committee forwarded were defeated).

And when the Senate trial was held in January 1999, the Senate allowed both witnesses and videotape depositions to be introduced as evidence. Both the 'prosecution' and the 'defense' were given 3 days to make their arguments before the Senate.

In 1998, Lindsey Graham went on TV and said the Senate should 'keep an open mind' and to let the facts speak for themselves. In 2019, he won't even review the case. He won't even 'pretend to be a fair juror.'

So stop trying to play the victim, Mitch, Lindsey, and Donald. You're not very good at it.

8 ( +14 / -6 )

Is it "Happy Impeachment" or is it "Merry Impeachment?"

I don't want to offend anyone!

When did the Dems become such awful politicians? They used to better at this!

What’s next Dems? An Uzbekistan conspiracy thing?

Could be. Trump's made ties with Uzbekistan's rulers. And Trump's global syndicate does have ties with other global syndicates.

“A political faction in the lower chamber has succumbed to partisan rage," said McConnell,

in opposition to the partisan rage of political factions led by Trump and his fellow Moscow financed supporters like Mitch. Trump's the president (impeached), supposed to be the leader, supposed to limit partisanship. Instead he fuels partisanship, has led attacks on the those who oppose him, attacks more vicious than ever seen before - in his and his followers attempts to further undermine US systems.
