The Republicans who continue to support Trump seem to be saying saying their idol trump should be above the law and it is OK to destroy evidence and public records that might in some way incriminate him or them. Thy fear the truth; instead prefer big lies. What was Trump hiding this time and what evidence did he ask his FBI and Homeland Security people to destroy.. Republicans used to be the 'law and order party' until they joined the Golfing Grifter's Cult. Thugs R them. By the way, Trump is no longer the US President, he clearly lost the election to Biden. Only his deluded followers believe his big lies, while many continue to tithe and give even moreof their money to the Church of Trump, a delicate male with an oversized ego who's just another telescamgelist in politician's golf attire. Something about 'fools and money'

It's looking like there is zero chance that Trump will be able to run in 2024. Which is a shame, because he has a history of losing.
If he doesn't get charged in one of the many investigations into his actions, his reputation is in tatters after the Jan 6th committee. Murdoch doesn't like him; McConnell despises him and he's unlikely to be able to get a platform like Twitter or Fox News to air him constantly during election season.
To be honest, I'd prefer Trump over De Santis, who is a mean bully with zero ethics.

There’ll be people here shortly telling us “you see! I told you so!” As if this wasn’t expected anyway.

Evidently the FBI quickly cracked the main safe, which probably means there are default passwords only the FBI has.

Ah_so
The idea that the search of his mansion was politically motivated is ludicrous, but it shows both the conspiratorial mindset of much of the GQP following years of Trump indoctrination.
This was in fact exactly how Trump did seek to behave, and so it is assumed that all others stoop to this level.
And as this search has actually galvanized Trump's support (unsurprisingly), it was hardly effective.
The raid was done over three months away from the election so as not to interfere and while Trump was away, so as to reduce embarrassment for him.
All that remains to be seen was what was Trump concealing?
quercetum
If Trump weren’t running in ‘24, you think this would take place?
ulysses
And now this!!!
The band of criminals seem to be going down, fast!!!
bass4funk
You mean the FBI.
He didn’t, back in January Trump and his team turned over 15 boxes of National archive documents. Also, during the raid, Trump was in NY at the time so there was no way he could have physically destroyed the documents in his possession. He had them for 2 years, so if he wanted to destroy them he would have done it a long time ago. The Feds can’t have it both ways.
Yeah? Like what?
Ahhh, that debunked theory.
They still are. Remember when the Dems were beside themselves when they thought that Trump was going to weaponize the DOJ and FBI, well that never happened, but now this administration has crossed the line and has done exactly that.
Not now, but that looks like that might change because it seems now that the Feds just blew it, they could have subpoena Trump which would have been the first step in obtaining the documents. There was no legal justification to do a raid especially when the man is not even in the same state. If anything l, this helps Trump and the Republicans in general. I have never known a party like the Democrats that are so hellbent on destroying themselves politically.
theFu
The GOP needs to push for non-liars to run for office. I'm only seeking honest candidates, which seem to be lacking in the GOP - and in nearly all of my representatives.
There aren't passwords that only the FBI has, but when the FBI contacts a safe business, the plans are almost always made available. Lots of safes have plenty of weak areas, though the front always appears, well, safe. So, if the specific safe isn't easily opened by an expert with a microphone and "touch", then a torch would be used to cut into the least thick parts. Plus, the FBI doesn't need to worry about being caught and arrested, so they don't need to be silent and fast.
People in the data security business routinely practice lock picking. Each lock has a specific weakness, so of the thousands of models made, understanding the internals places a lock into a group and with practice, pretty much every lock can be opened pretty quickly. Some door locks are easier to pick than to remember the combination or insert a key. I bet there is training for FBI for safecracking, so with 1 look or more likely a phone app, the safe internal diagrams are made available to those people for the most popular safes.
If you want to secure information, keep it digital and use very strong encryption that only you retain the keys to access. We stopped using RSA keys in 2017 and switched to elliptic curve keys. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elliptic-curve_cryptography The best encryption uses 2 types. That for the data, which is symmetric (w-way) and that to unlock the data (aka the header) which uses longer, keys. Properly encrypted data looks like random data to any analysis effort. Every few years, there are reports about which encryption have been cracked by the best cryptologists anywhere. It is really easy to use extremely strong data encryption these days, but it is all the stuff around that encryption which is the weak point. Nobody can crack the front of a safe, but by going around the back, there are almost always weaknesses.

Apparently there was a deal finalized with a foreign government to buy some of these documents, that’s the reason for the FBI raid.
donald is hard up for cash, so much so that he cannot even afford to buy a burial plot for his ex wife and the DOJ is worried about national secrets being sold off to raise money!
The Avenger
Trump tried to overturn the results of an election. No amount of finger pointing and vilifying the other party can erase or deflect that, and no there is no equivalency that can match it, despite efforts from Trump’s supporters to try exactly that. All of this has happened because Trump did not and does not respect the institutions of his own country.

The establishment have overplayed their hand, and the backlash against them is going to be severe. First this November, and then in 2024. This raid is an inflammatory act by a bunch of paranoid sociopaths who still can't get over the fact that Trump won in 2016 and are desperate to make sure he can't come back. And to intimidate anyone who might try to buck the system.
Once the Republicans get control of Congress in November and the White House in 2024, they should go after whoever ordered they raids with the full force of the law and lock them away forever in solitary.

There are Republicans who are so over Trump, and even more who just want him out of the way of their efforts to become President.
But they also know that Trump is incautious enough to have kept notes given to him in an effort to make him understand certain realities, things everyone 'knows' but doesn't admit, and definitely wouldn't normally allow to be committed to paper, especially paper with their name on it.
Of course they've unified around Trump and the effort to make sure those possible notes never become public, they're terrified that those notes might expose THEM

Former CIA official Philip Mudd downplayed FBI agents finding classified documents in former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida during a raid on Monday.
It’s common for government officials to bring classified documents home with them accidentally because files are often “overclassified,” Mudd, a former deputy director of the National Counterterrorism Center and the FBI’s National Security Branch, said during a CNN appearance on Tuesday. Therefore, the process of obtaining a search warrant for the residence of a former president would require much more than just seeking classified documents, he added.
“The chance the attorney general and the FBI director went in and said, ‘Hey, he’s got some secret document down there he hasn’t given us, and to ensure we recover those, we’re just going to go to Mar-a-Lago,' I would put that near zero,” Mudd explained. “To get to the bar where you’re going to the residence of the former president, classified documents don’t get you there. I had them in my house sometimes, inappropriately. It happens all the time. There has to be the additional piece ... and they have to do with stuff that the FBI can’t get someplace else.”
Earlier this year, the National Archives retrieved about 15 boxes' worth of material it contends were presidential records that it said should have been given to the agency. Upon review of the records, the agency discovered classified material and referred the matter to the Department of Justice, according to a letter David Ferriero, the archivist of the United States at the time, sent to Congress back in February. The DOJ subsequently opened a grand jury inquiry into the matter, the New York Times reported.
Federal agents took approximately 10 more boxes out of Mar-a-Lago on Monday, according to the Wall Street Journal, which said this marked an escalation of the investigation into how classified documents ended up at the resort after Trump left office.
Christina Bobb, an attorney for Trump, contended that as president, Trump had sweeping jurisdiction over what material should be classified.
"It is the president himself who gets to decide what is a presidential record. So why they get to redefine that is unclear, and why they get to search — why that's even in a warrant, it doesn't really make any sense, and the same thing with any potential classified information, which I don't believe there was any down there," she said on Tuesday.

President Joe Biden was not given advance notice of a raid on former President Donald Trump's Florida home, the White House said on Tuesday, stressing that the Justice Department conducts investigations independently.
"The president was not briefed, was not aware of it," White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters. "No one at the White House was given a heads-up," she added.

Except the "unreturned books" in this case are classified national security documents that should never have left a secure space. Before making such statements please at least acquaint yourself with the many laws and regulations that strictly govern the storage, handling and declassification of classified documents. Classified documents have to stored in special safes in special secure spaces with all kinds of record keeping of who opened or entered a given space or a given safe.
Also acquaint yourself with a law called the Federal Records Act. Violating these laws are indeed felonies with large fines and jail sentences. Everyone and I mean everyone who has to work with Federal records (basically any paper you touch in the course of working for a Federal agency including the Executive Branch) or if you work with classified material receive required training each year and completion of that training is recorded for posterity, so there is no pleading you didn't know if you violate those rules. The rules are clear and everyone knows them, so no excuses.

Trump supporters, you can go to his website and make a donation. He's a "billionaire" so he could use his own money but he likes using yours instead.
I like that, too.

Once again, this isn’t how the law works. It isn’t the case that if. Republican is guilty of something, then a Democrat must also be guilty of something.
If I murder someone I can’t just say, “well if I’m going to jail, then Todd has to go to jail too, because I hate him”. That’s not how it works.

Yeah, it does. There are protocols that the DOJ could take without doing a raid
Ok, so overlook Democrat scandals that are on the same level as the president and ignore them and just focus on Trump. The more you try to justify the lefts actions the more it makes us and the rest of the nation feel confident that November will be a breeze for the GOP.

Terrifying what they are willing to do. All because the Dems have nobody that can beat Trump in the next election, no matter how much they fortify it.

If one thing can be said is that the process followed to do the search have no viable criticism, Trump gave motive and a federal Judge considered the process justified. The GOP reaction is expected, if not justified, but what realistic alternative was there?

Reports are that 12 boxes of evidence were removed from Mar-A-Lago. That means that either;
1) Trump was lying when he said he just took 15 boxes - and kept additional classified info, possibly including Top Secret, unsecured at Mar-A-Lago.
2) The FBI found a massive new amount of evidence of crimes, likely related to the illegal fraudulent electors scheme, or collusion with violent far-right extremist groups leading up to Jan 6, or his phone call to Rafensberger trying to obstruct the Georgia election.
This is a major step in Trump's investigation - this evidence will also go in front of the grand jury. Expect an indictment soon.
Trump is toast - his supporters can rant about "political investigations" all they want - and contribute to Trump's "Keep Me Out of Jail" fund that will likely pay for Melania's fashion designer.
Pompeo testified before the Jan 6th committee today - he knows his former boss is toxic and a lost cause.

This was a valid search warrant, validly approved and validly executed. Period. End of story.

GOP rally around the criminal. Rally around the man who tried to end American democracy.
Of all the people to fight for, Trump is the least deserving. A privileged rich, egomaniac who's interest stops at himself and his imagined greatness.
American history will forever be subject to the embarrassment of having elected Trump as president. Of the GOP refusing to impeach him for his crimes (twice) simply because he was a Republican, thus completely ignoring their sworn oaths of office to all the people of America.
The GOP are as disgusting as Trump whom they blindly venerate. I wish it was because they were all unintelligent drones but some are quite smart, yet have been sucked in by his cult of personality and their irrational hate of those who do not share their misguided faith in an evil man.
