The new Republican House's job is not to screw over the President and the Democratic Party, but rather the governance of these United States. Governance requires compromise, and the American people expect their legislatiors to put the interests of the country above partisan political concerns. If the Republicans can't do this then they'll be out again in 2 years.

I think the headline says it all. Stay classy GOP. All of the balanced budgets (Rand Paul promised us one!) and program cutting (100 billion. That's a promise.) that voters wanted and every GOP candidate promised---it's all meaningless. Forgotten already. "We heard you America." is now "What has the electorate done for me lately?" Boehner says we are going to get more finger pointing at Obama for two years. Because it's easy. And because gooby GOP voters will fall for it over and over again. Karl Rove will see to that.

Fix the economy? Nah. Health care or other social services? Nah. Education? clearly the GOP doesn't need any, so why should the rest of Americans?

Nah... the goal for these guys has nothing to do with their country -- only a specific political agenda to stick it to the other guy. Amazing... and only a couple of days after getting the house.

For me to fix any economy a key-factor is good and affordable health-care.

Workers that are often sick and worried about medicine, etc bills don't make good workers.

This means a LOT of money is lost to both the companies and the workers = bad for the economy as spending power decreases.

If Americans really want to fix America then there must be a grass-roots effort to institute and enforce term limits. As long as life-time poloticians exist, business will buy off the necessary people to get what they want. At this point, members of both parties are equally worthless.

What happened? Deny reelection? What about the people??

The problems in the USA all come from once source, the inevitable collapse of the debt-based monetary system. I'm not sure that you (or the Republicans) are drawing the correct conclusions...

Polls indicate that ObamaCare is unpopular. The same polls indicate repealing ObamaCare is equally unpopular.

How do we interpret this? I think the message is that, while Americans may think that Obama's healthcare bill is flawed, they recognize that the healthcare system in the US is broken and needs serious reform. To undo what little progress the legislature has made toward reform would be a serious mistake on the Republicans' part. If the Republicans were to repeal ObamaCare (impossible while the Democrats hold the Senate and the Veto, but assuming a Republican president in 2012...) but fail to pass substancial reform legislation of their own, it would be a politcal disaster.

Republicans seem to think this election was a "mandate" for the Republican agenda. I don't think that's true (otherwise they would have taken the senate and even more of the house). The truth is that Ameicans in general don't really give a damn about "Big Gov't vs Small Gov't" or any other political dogfight. What Americans want is "Jobs", a "good economy", and "affordable health care". They don't care how they get it. The Democrats haven't been able to deliver in a timely fashion, so they are out. Republicans will suffer the same fate unless they can provide, and to do so will require that they be more than the "Party of No"; they need to become the "Party of Solutions".

I am skeptical, but I fervantly hope they can.

Boehner has officially stated that the GOP's main goal is not to deny Obama reelection. McConnell has DEFINITELY said that is the main goal. The Tea Party has definitely asked for high ranking committee seats and positions, and the GOP leadership in the house has denied them.

The Tea Party has definitely stated that their number one goal is dismantling health care. GOP says that keeping tax cuts for the rich is the number one legislative priority.

And Boehner has said that Dems are "in denial" because they have not heard the voters' message. Uh huh. And if the GOP heard that message, then how come they are all spouting a different set of priorities? And I thought Angle, Fiorina, O'Donnell and others articulated the GOP/TP line pretty well, and they were rejected. Boener will say that the GOP represents all the people, but it does not even represent the tea party, apparently.

Word on the street is that the GOP cannot pass a budget in the house without tea party votes. That should make the GOP's idea of "compromise with Dems" a little bit tricky. And if the GOP is not going to give tea party people some tasty committee appointments, how willing will tea party people be to compromise at all.

Hit that GOP party with a hammer, and it will shatter into a million pieces.

I don't think that should be any surprise. Denying Obama re-election has been the number 2 GOP goal for the last two years. Their other goal was to return to Congressional power.

The GOP's only plan to solve any of America's fundamental problems is to do more of what didn't work during the Bush years. All democratic politicians capitalize on the impatience of the electorate. However, nowhere is the electorate more impatient than in America, with its insouciant belief that every problem can be solved lickety-split and that if a problem ain't solved yet it must be the fault of the guy in the oval office. The GOP is highly skilled in creating a good story. The problem is, it ain't a true story.

The truth is, Americans need to learn to live with less--a lot less. Those jobs are not coming back. It's time to stop living in the 18th century and notice that many of the most successful countries in the world today have elements of socialism that are anathema to the followers of Alexander Hamilton and which dwarf any of the Obama plans that have been flagellated by block-voting idiots.

You're making a mistake here. See, Boehner doesn't have to do anything in order to accomplish what the Tea Party wants. In fact, that is precisely what many of them want. If congress, and specifically the house doesn't pass legislation authorizing spending, then it doesn't get spent. If they don't authorize for example that the department of energy receives its money for the year, then they don't get it. Thats the power of the purse. Thats what the dems have controlled for the past 4 years. Thats what they lost. Republicans now have control over how much money gets spent, and where. And if they don't agree, they can simply shut down the government. When it comes down to it, that is what many in the Tea Party want. And Dems know this. If they want their little health care bill funded, the house has to authorize it. If the IRS wants to hire the additional agents to enforce it, the house must authorize it. That is not going to happen. Obama is going to have to agree to reductions in spending, or sacrifice everything.

Yes the house has to do appropriations, but if the budget gets vetoed nobody gets any money. If the house does not give Obama a budget he wants to pass, he won't. Even continuing resolutions will come down to the wire and involve a LOT of compromising, which will make the Tea Party a laughing stock. People will get sick of them fast, and the GOP will be happy to let them take point while the GOP fat cats hunker down in the back.

No. Congress can't "rob" the executive branch of the funds mandated to perform its mission -- the Department of Energy being one of those departments deemed needed by every chief executive since the department was established. This principle is backed up by over 200 years of legal precedent.

I believe there are GOP newcomers who don't know that. Just like the Republican senate candidate who didn't know about the establishment clause in the First Amendment. (Some of these folks are just plain ignorant.)

The good news for Obama is that in the latest polls, he is still competitive against a hypothetical Republican challenger in 2012. He trails Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee in 2012 both by a small margin and within sampling error, but he's healthily favored over Sarah Palin (in all regions of the US: east coast, west and rockies, and surprisingly by 50%-49% also in the midwest and the south, go figure).

That's why traditional Republicans are afraid that Palin would run for the Presidency because she has a good chance to win the Republican Primary but won't win the middle (the middle/moderates are the fastest growing political wing, growing from 18% in the 70's, to 26% in the 90's, to 34% in 2010 - basically now, 1/3 are Republicans, 1/3 are Democrats, and 1/3 are the middle). Palin could almost assure another term for Obama. Obviously, Repubs straw poll favors Romney and Huckabee in a dead heat in a healthy margin over Palin.

Whoever contributes to stopping Obama's re-election will be doing the country and the world a huge favor.

This is an exciting time for the GOP. All this conflict is going to help them resolve some issues that they have been wrestling with for years.

I think if you ran the game enough times, you would find that the pragmatists are going to win because they will help each other... cooperate... and the non-cooperative ones, the TPartiers, have probably already lost just by announcing that they will not cooperate. Yabits, I did a bit of research out of curiosity. One of Bush's last trips cost 10 million a day. This trip dwarfs what Bush did, so a more reasonable figure is 15 to 20 million per day. Well under the 200 million, but still a significant chunk. Still, not Obamas call. Oh, who he puts on the jets, and how many staff and reporters he brings, that is.
