Personally I think it's absolutely necessary for governments at all levels to be actively involved in the economic recoveries. What the world should be starting to see are the weaknesses, even failures of global 'free market capitalism' LOL to withstand this black swan. What will be learnt from this. Hopefully that human health and environmental health are fundamental to economic health. Globally. Curious whether once again some will say 'keep government's hands away from business', 'let the markets take care of themselves'.

Efforts to save the economy are all well and good, but first and foremost should be efforts to save peoples' lives. That is specifically what is lacking from the White House. We hear daily what is being done to save the stock market, but those trying to save lives are abandoned by an inept leader.

GOVERNMENT AND CENTRAL BANKS: Where to begin is an enormously complex question

Not really, just suspend all bills, rents, contracts, etc for 2 months while all payments/loans must be honored for two months. Let the banks take the hit, they’re insured anyway.
