But there is no excuse for abusing their status as law enforcement. Cop or no cop. Tasering should only be used when their is a 'genuine' imminent threat.

Osakadaz: They may need tazers, but do they NEED to taser an unarmed man some 14 times? Ummm... let's check the answer. NO! This sounds like it was extremely excessive, and sounds like the police should face some severe lawsuits. I know they are doing their jobs, but when they are inflicting unnecessary pain and suffering they are no better than criminals.

I been tazered = no fun.

BTW, everybody that wants to own/operate one needds to get tazered first(law). And it takes a Paramedic/trained person to remove the barbed hooks(very painful).

Totally unacceptable = $1,148 ? Life's cheap, ain't it?

Who was it that was on here just a little while ago saying Australia was the world's model for effective policing?

@Stoker - perhaps more to do with refusing police orders in one case (though clearly excessive) and armed robbery in another. Unfortunately some people fall over themselves to blame racism at every opportunity - particularly users basing their arguments in idiotic stereotypes and totally ignorant of the things and places they're talking about.

Since the incident happened quite a few years ago when a group of criminals sprayed a police station in Bankstown(?)of Sydney with bullets, police now a day think that Australian society is becoming more dangerous than the one they used to know. Lets hope that people will remember clearly, solidly when the police come... just offer no resistence.

Uzing tasers on violent individuals as an alternative to (potentially more) lethal force is a good idea. Using tasers on non-violent individuals to force compliance is a bad idea. Remeber, there are no such things as "non-lethal" weapons, only "less lethal" weapons. Even a fist can kill.

You have to wonder about the stupidity of some cops. A Taser gun is something that makes the job much safer, so why would you abuse it? Sooner or later one of these incidents is going to result in the Tasers being taken away somewhere (if that hasn't already happened). Real bright.
