It would be nice to get news that is accurate and objective. Too much propaganda these days.

The media has lost a lot of trust through lies and manipulation, I believe. I'm from a small country, and we can see live videos of the events that the media are lying about.

I catch mistakes in Japan Today all the time as well, which seem to indicate lack of investigation. Perhaps international news especially is just being rewritten from overseas articles without actually checking if the information is true?

I get most of my news from independent journalists now, who show their sources, and show live videos where I can decide my opinion for myself.

said who?

reuters, equal of one sided propaganda.lies.hoaxes.unverified stories published as "news".

censorship.in short-crap.

i am not surprised at all that people are tired from their crap and looking for news at other sources.

dont underestimate peoples IQ.they knows better than you dear reuters what is going on .

dont believe to these "news" at first sight and always check more sources from different places.

Gee, I wonder why.

I only watch the TV news for the weather and pollen count, baseball highlights and the occasional feel-good local story. The main coverage is generally just one-sided, superficial propaganda that a two-year-old can spot. Same goes for newspapers. Most of them are owned by conglomerates with fingers in so many pies and with interests so closely related that any sense of objectivity has long since evaporated. For state-owned media, its either that the government of the day has a strong hand in directing coverage a la NHK, Chinese TV etc, or its run by a clique of left-wing zealots like the BBC, Australia's ABC, and Canada's CBC.

All have their own agendas, and truth being the red-headed stepchild.

Hence the propaganda about the Ukraine conflict, pretty much anything to do with COVID that makes it past the censors, Jan 6, gerbil worming, you name it.

And the media only have themselves to blame for people switching off. Serves them right.

Fear mongering, partisan positions, sloppy reporting, censorship, lack of critical and diverse views. Of course people will end up deciding to avoid mainstream news.

A certain large 'news' network in USA was brought to court over it's blatant misinformation and it's get-out clause was to officially call itself an 'entertainment' network. All so-called news sites or channels are mouthpieces for very polarising 'sides' of a political coin. And every topic is politcalised regardless and so here we are.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

this happens when media forgot what they have to do.

they have forgot to that their role is to "inform us".

instead they are telling us what we should think or in other words-they knows what we should/have to think and what is best for us to think.any topic-covid,Ukraine and list goes on-you name it.media believes that their mission is to "form our opinion in accord with their ideology line"

Reuters is one great example of one great misleading tool.

as long as more and more people are "getting tired",getting "stressed" or in other words-stopping to believe to Reuters and co-newsagencies have smaller reach to public, media are getting less popular for readers.Media survives partly from advertising.Less visitors-less potential clients for ad placing companies.

media believes that if they will practice open censorship and will push just some of their propaganda they will won but opposite is happening now and this article is just top of iceberg.

Correct. I see no reason for everything in the "news" to be rehashed nonsense about Trump in the time period of 2016-2020 seeing as he left the government over a year and a half ago.

Left the government? Over half of Republicans think Trump is still President.... I guess you're not among that faithful....

The May 17-19 national poll found that 53% of Republicans believe Trump, their party's nominee, is the “true president” now,

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/53-republicans-view-trump-true-us-president-reutersipsos-2021-05-24/

Its clearly done as avoidance and deflection from the actual Biden problems and issues of today that Trump has no impact on and nothing to do with.

Biden's problems? How can they be Biden's problems when he isn't President?

A Jan 6th hearing every other day....

Is showing Trump plotted a coup - with the words coming from Trump's own team - and that he KNEW he lost but kept up The Big Lie just to fleece his supporters...

But the media plays the role of distractor to support their "team", hurting Americans by making government think they are doing ok and that citizens are fine. they are not.

Especially when one media outlet serves as the Kremlin's North American branch and spews nothing but Russian disinformation...

reuters, equal of one sided propaganda.lies.hoaxes.unverified stories published as "news".

Hardly suprising. The ex-boss of Reuters is a WEF flunky and board member of the main "charitable" arm of a certain pharmaceutical company that's made a killing from pushing a certain treatment that's neither safe nor effective.

2 ( +14 / -12 )

in general people are not stopping to read news so headline is kind of misleading one.

in real people are tired from fake news as simple as is.

2 ( +14 / -12 )

Depressing? Some media outlets have turned to nothing but outright lies and crazy conspiracy theories...

Just look at Fox "cancelling" and self-censoring the first Jan 6th committee hearing - then going even farther, airing no commercials during that three hour period.

Think of that - they were so worried their viewers would channel surf and switch and watch the hearings that they swore off ad revenue because they were afraid the fibs they told their viewers regarding the "Big Lie" would be found out...

Fox is nothing but an anti-democratic Russia-adoring propaganda outlet...spewing the Kremlin's disinformation...all for the dollars...

Its not that its depressing, its just that anyone with an agenda can write anything and pass it off as a "news article" these days, so it can be quite hard sometimes to find the "truth" in the pile of agenda pushing articles telling me how I should think (from the right and the left). I'm just fine with my daily dose of American Renaissance for example, listen to their podcasts on my way to work, its just a relief to get informed on world issues through very sincere voices, everything is crystal clear and I don't feel "depressed" with the bad news, its actually a relief to get to know what is actually happening.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

I still check Yahoo.news.jp, Asashi Shinbun and gaming news every days.

I guess some people are really depressing.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

The depressing state of the world is leading people to switch off from the news, the Reuters Institute reported on Wednesday.

The movie Network already said it in 1976.

Corporations providing the news are giving you the voice of the corporatocracy.

And now it is orders of magnitude worse than it was in the 70s.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Now, as in the Jan 6th hearings - which Fox News refused to air? Too "woke" for them I guess....

But CNN!

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Japan Today is not so bad, especially the quirky posters and ridiculous comments.

It's the only reason I hang around. Ridiculous comments are my forte.

The people on this board (a MSM-oriented news site they chose to register with) are ripping into the MSM mainly because they are so frustrated by how reality is proving itself to be at odds with their worldview.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Interesting subject which needs to be fleshed out.

Thinking of television;an extremely underutilized medium for our benefit.

In Japan, it is used to push superficiality to the extreme or nationalistic agendas.

How we are herded into having set opinions by the media and its ability to create vast fear aka COVID - will go down in the history books.

Also, the incessant attention to unelected bodies eg WEF,Davos,Council on Foreign Relations etc.

The MSM news is culled from controlled and limited sources. That is why it is the same wherever we look on a given day in various localities.

MSM journalists seem to sensationalise what they are reporting on and then months later gloss over previous events to change opinion.

A most recent example can be found in the UK press regarding Prince Andrew.

Stopping revolutions by not addressing the biased hidden economic monopolies that are pyramidal and stifle democracy and competition,.

These are rarely ever mentioned;Blackrock and Vanguard.

Just a few examples that show real topics are not addressed nor are populations allowed to think under a deluge of events which they think they are powerless to influence

Blacklabel, nobody was complaining about inflation last summer, when their children were getting them 300 dollar check, they would of been extended for another year, not for Republicans

One major reason I quit watching 'mainstream' US TV news around 2007 was because I got sick and tired of them glorifying the wasteful stupid Iraq War and all the lies behind it. They turned it into a media circus for the armchair generals of America and it made me sick. That jingoistic junk had been happening since Desert Storm 1991, turning war into entertainment. Yippy-yi-yay. And I got sick and tired of the celebrity crap like 'TomKat' and Britney Spears shaves her head or Lady Caca has her pooch stolen. even at the end of the broadcast there'd be some maudlin 'news' like some little girl screeching the National Anthem or a song you grew up in order to tug your heartstrings.

Americans have become so confortably dumb, blind and oblivious to how we've been building the perfect beast until all of a sudden a loudmouth unqualified sassybrat had hijacked the WH and spread his reign of terror on us. And even that gets biased because of censorship and whatever. And all they say is 'the beat goes on' which to me is a total COP-OUT attitude. America deserves better. We are better than that!

Just look at Fox "cancelling" and self-censoring the first Jan 6th committee hearing - then going even farther, airing no commercials during that three hour period.

Why would they want to pile on the hype?

Because its news - but Fox doesn't do news - they do propaganda.... And its the perfect example of far-right cancel culture...

Fox is nothing but an anti-democratic

No, because both sides are represented,

Well, that's true - both Russian and Chinese propaganda....LOL....

*Americans have become so confortably dumb, blind and oblivious to how we've been building the perfect beast until all of a sudden a loudmouth unqualified sassybrat had hijacked the WH*

He didn't hijack anything, he got voted into office.

Glad to see you agree Trump is a loudmouth, unqualified, sassybrat....

and spread his reign of terror on us.

By going after the establishment and Democrats and their toxic policies, he sure did.

Glad to see you recognize the Trump years as a reign of terror also...

@Finally Rich I totally agree with your point "Its not that its depressing, its just that anyone with an agenda can write anything and pass it off as a "news article" However I would like to add to it, when the internet came along that made news reporting even worse because anyone could report or post and article or opinion about a subject and confuse the masses. Information vs Disinformation

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

News isn’t about reporting facts it’s just pushing the latest agenda or just plain obvious propaganda

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Just look at Fox "cancelling" and self-censoring the first Jan 6th committee hearing - then going even farther, airing no commercials during that three hour period.

Why would they want to pile on the hype? If the other networks want to cover the Shiff-show then that is their choice, then go and watch them, there are more serious news and social issues that people truly care about and FOX is focusing on that, more reason why the network continues to draw more and more people.

Fox is nothing but an anti-democratic

No, because both sides are represented, personally they have too many liberals for my taste, but compare that to the other networks that have no conservatives or anti-democratic? Hardly....

Americans have become so confortably dumb, blind and oblivious to how we've been building the perfect beast until all of a sudden a loudmouth unqualified sassybrat had hijacked the WH

He didn't hijack anything, he got voted into office. Yes, I helped in that as well.

and spread his reign of terror on us.

By going after the establishment and Democrats and their toxic policies, he sure did.

And even that gets biased because of censorship and whatever. And all they say is 'the beat goes on' which to me is a total COP-OUT attitude. America deserves better. We are better than that!

Huh? What does all that even mean???

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

A certain large 'news' network in USA was brought to court over it's blatant misinformation and it's get-out clause was to officially call itself an 'entertainment' network.

CNN or MSNBC? There both as much of a joke as Fox, if not more so. Brian Stelter and Rachel Maddow, among others, provide endless fodder for ridicule with their breathtaking lack of insight and self-awareness.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

correct. I see no reason for everything in the "news" to be rehashed nonsense about Trump in the time period of 2016-2020 seeing as he left the government over a year and a half ago.

Its clearly done as avoidance and deflection from the actual Biden problems and issues of today that Trump has no impact on and nothing to do with.

A Jan 6th hearing every other day doesnt make my gas tank full at a reasonable price or a baby have formula. It doesnt make the market go back up so that people can retire. Doesnt stop the mass shootings or the war or the sky high prices at the store. If the news would focus on these and hold people in charge (Dems) "to account", these things would have to be fixed.

But the media plays the role of distractor to support their "team", hurting Americans by making government think they are doing ok and that citizens are fine. they are not.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Well golly gosh and gee, Aunt Daisy, I wonder why that'd be? Can't these people understand that MSNBCCBSCNNNBCABCBBCCBCABCAPREUTERS just want to inform them, fairly and impartially? These people must be under some kind of foreign influence, or something!
