Back in my apartment living days I remember pulling into the parking area and seeing a guy dressed in his pajamas taking garbage to the dumpster with a gun belt around his waist. He literally couldn't walk the 100 feet from his apartment to the dumpster without his gun.

To me, that's a lot of the gun debate. Men being too afraid of society and unable to function unless they have the ability to instantly kill someone on them at all times. If we banned guns, men like that would be prisoners, too afraid to walk out their front doors and unable to live life in any meaningful way because they're be too afraid to leave their homes.

I might think of it in terms of sensible laws, but for this guy he'd probably give his life to keep his gun because he can't function without it.

When it's white red neck men with gun racks in their pick up talking about the second amendment people talk about a sacred right given to them by the constitution. Just think. What would the reaction be like if it was a large group of armed black and hispanic men assembling in VA?

Depends on the reason regardless of color.

Bass: Anyone should be allowed a gun at any time for any reason.

Person: What if they’re not white?

Bass: hmm then maybe it’s time to consider the circumstances.

Just as a reminder, Bass has said before that he doesn’t think the second amendment applies to black Americans and he thinks they shouldn’t be allowed to own guns.

Ban all automatic rifles. Ban them now.

Pro-second amendment does not equal pro-indiscriminate murder.

Not if you understand it correctly. Even Scalia said in 2008, it is “not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose.”

Helix:. It's why SuperLib's neighbor brings a gun just to throw out the trash.

I managed to survive without a gun, but then again I'm not afraid like he was. Taking his gun away would require intense therapy to get over his fear of walking outside.

Some men are just too afraid and they will fight you tooth and nail to keep their security blanket.

I am sorry my fellow liberals i'm not on your side on this. The proposed law is a blatant breaking of the 2nd amendment and will affect not only "white rednecks" as you call them but will also, probably disproportionately affect armed black and hispanic Americans as well

No, a blatant 'breaking of the 2nd Amendment' occured when the NRA stood in support as Ronald Reagan and the Republican party passed the Mulford Act in California, an amendment to the California Constitution.

https://www.history.com/news/black-panthers-gun-control-nra-support-mulford-act

Now, why did Reagan and the Repubs want to take away open carry in California? Because the Black Panthers were doing it, doing open carry patrols of their neighborhoods in what the Panthers called 'copwatching.' AKA, when minorities were standing up using their rights in the same way, Republicans flocked to pass a law to stop it. The law got national attention when Black Panthers entered the capitol building armed in protest of Mulford's proposed amendment.

At least the California Democrats were consistent on wanting gun control. Reagan however, was just consistent in his duplicity.

Governor Ronald Reagan, who was coincidentally present on the capitol lawn when the protesters arrived, later commented that he saw "no reason why on the street today a citizen should be carrying loaded weapons" and that guns were a "ridiculous way to solve problems that have to be solved among people of good will." In a later press conference, Reagan added that the Mulford Act "would work no hardship on the honest citizen."

Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor, it must be demanded by the oppressed.

-MLK

Kudos to the brave marchers demanding their freedom and continuing in the spirit of freedom that MLK fought for.

Dr. King wasn’t fighting for indiscriminate murder, FYI. You are.

Pro-second amendment does not equal pro-indiscriminate murder.

It is, actually. Because whenever dozens of kids are murdered and solutions are offered, you say, “no. Muh guns”. Gun rights lunatics are so twisted that they want children to get murdered so they can pretend they're in a Charlton Heston movie like the perverted cosplayers they are.

Kleck’s survey included gun uses against animals and did not distinguish civilian uses from military of police uses. Kleck’s Interviewers do not appear to have questioned a random individual at a given telephone number, but rather asked to speak to the male head of the household. Males from the South and West were oversampled. The results imply that many hundreds of thousands of murders should have been occurring when a private gun was not available for protection. Yet guns are rarely carried, less than a third of adult Americans personally own guns, and only 27,000 homicides occurred in 1992.

Another study from the same period, the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), estimated 65,000 DGUs (defensive gun uses) annually. The NCVS survey differed from Kleck’s study in that it only interviewed those who reported a threatened, attempted, or completed victimization for one of six crimes: rape, robbery, assault, burglary, non-business larceny, and motor vehicle theft. That accounts for the discrepancy in the two results. A National Research Council report said that Kleck's estimates appeared to be exaggerated and that it was almost certain that "some of what respondents designate[d] as their own self-defense would be construed as aggression by others" (Understanding and Preventing Violence, 266, Albert J. Reiss, Jr. & Jeffrey A. Roth, eds., 1992).

Given the number of victims allegedly being saved with guns, it would seem natural to conclude that owning a gun substantially reduces your chances of being murdered. Yet a careful case-control study of homicide in the home found that a gun in the home was associated with an increased rather than a reduced risk of homicide. Virtually all of this risk involved homicide by a family member or intimate acquaintance.”

We've only got bushfires in Australia.

Pretty good by comparison.

Do any of these gun nuts ever travel overseas ?

I mean experience countries where there are few guns ?

What a way to live your life...hypervigilant, perpetually afraid and compensating for something deeply lacking in your character.

Some men are just too afraid and they will fight you tooth and nail to keep their security blanket.

To be clear, “some men” refers to gun nutters; “security blanket” to gun. A lot of those nutters claim to know a lot about firearms and then go on to make assertion which demonstrate their ignorance thereof. For instance that rate of fire does not impact lethality in a mass shooting.

Since a small percentage of people may report virtually anything on a telephone survey, there are serious risks of overestimation in using such surveys to measure rare events. The problem becomes particularly severe when the issue has even a remote possibility of positive social desirability response bias.

Consider the responses to a national random-digit-dial telephone survey of over 1,500 adults conducted in May 1994 by ABC News and the Washington Post. One question asked: "Have you yourself ever seen anything that you believe was a spacecraft from another planet?" 10% of respondents answered in the affirmative. These 150 individuals were then asked, "Have you personally ever been in contact with aliens from another planet or not?" and 6% answered "Yes."

By extrapolating to the national population, we might conclude that almost 20 million Americans have seen spacecraft from another planet, and over a million have been in personal contact with aliens from other planets. That more than a million Americans had contact with aliens would be incredible news—but not the kind actively publicized by reputable scientists. Yet the ABC News/Washington Post data on aliens are as good as or better than that from any of the thirteen surveys cited by K-G as supporting their conclusions about self-defense gun use.”

most if not all of these shooters have come from broken homes and have a high chance of being on some type of anti psychotic drug - maybe mental health issues should be looked at prior to blaming guns.

And ALL of them were wearing shoes! Maybe shoe wearing should also be looked at.

Some 42 million Americans have taken antidepressants, a class of psychiatric drug that is often alleged to have a link to violence. That’s around 13% of the U.S. population, with higher rates for women (16.5%) and people over the age of 60 (19%), according to 2017 data from the National Center for Health Statistics.

But mass shooting incidents, while tragic, happen less frequently than would be expected if psychiatric drugs were the cause, experts say... .

If there was a connection or link, one would expect it to be pronounced, or at least much greater than we are seeing," said Dr. James Knoll, director of forensic psychiatry at SUNY Upstate Medical University. "Why do we not see increased violence in women? People over 60?"

Regardless of which side of the political divide you're on, side arms for civilian is symptomatic of a dysfunctional society.

...for this guy he'd probably give his life to keep his gun because he can't function without it.

I feel sorry for the plight of folks like this who lack the means to move to a safer hood or go to a therapist. And voting for a US government serious about taking responsibility for ensuring the safety of its citizens is, sadly, hardly an option given the power of the gun lobbies to buy politicians who have been emboldened to place the security and welfare of the American people in the "safe" little hands of an unstable "genius". No wonder the nation is strung out on opioids and guns.

Noidall: haha, it’s fine for mass murder, school shootings, and a plague of gun violence to run through our society. You know what’s not okay? Spitting.

What is provoking their anger in this once reliably conservative state is the new Democratic majority leadership and its plans to enact a slew of gun restrictions.

Its what has been predicted for a while, Democrat voters leave places like California because of the high taxes and socialist policies then move to a Conservative state then vote in a Democrat government who then introduce the same laws and ruin another state with socialist policies.

Before everyone comments about kids getting shot in schools generally by other kids, if we have a look at the backgrounds of these shooters, most if not all of these shooters have come from broken homes and have a high chance of being on some type of anti psychotic drug - maybe mental health issues should be looked at prior to blaming guns.

Back in the 1970's a person could buy AR15 style rifles via mail order and yet mass shootings didn't happen back then.

Americans better hold onto their guns, especially considering who is really behind the "democratic" party:

Criminologist and researcher Gary Kleck, using his own commissioned phone surveys and number extrapolation, estimates that Americans use guns for defensive purposes 1.2 million times each year — and that 1 in 6 Americans who have used guns defensively believe someone would have died but for their ability to resort to their defensive use of firearms. Twenty years ago economist John Lott, author of “More Guns, Less Crime,” and his research partner wrote: “We find that allowing citizens to carry concealed weapons deters violent crimes and it appears to produce no increase in accidental deaths. If those states which did not have right-to-carry concealed gun provisions had adopted them in 1992, approximately 1,570 murders; 4,177 rapes; and over 60,000 aggravated assaults would have been avoided yearly.”

Yup.

Nothing. It happens daily in most urban neighborhoods across America. It's why SuperLib's neighbor brings a gun just to throw out the trash.

Everything will be fine until antifa and other tolerant liberals start getting violent and start spitting and name calling. But nice try by the media to stir up hysteria and then allude to Charlottesville whilst hiding the truth of who really was the problem.

Exactly!

Utter nonsense, stop using raise to try and bolster a weak argument.

I never said that, not one time. But yeah, keep trying.
