This really isn't big news in America.

News flash: Gun Show opens in America. Up next: it's cold in winter followed by Americans like Football.

All of these bastards, NRA etc..have lots and lots of BLOOD on their hands! I hope one day, the good people of America with plenty of lawyers sue the hell out of all of these bastards for all the violence, hate, pain they are causing night and day.

That there are renewed calls for tougher gun restrictions after a Jan 8 shooting rampage in Arizona killed six people and wounded 13 others—including apparent assassination target U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords—did little to dampen spirits at the giant show.

Perhaps the promoters can do something nice for Representative Giffords. Like a big poster with GET WELL SOON written out in bullet holes.

“If I had a gun, I would have killed him.”

Let's assume that she would have and wouldn't have gotten herself killed trying to kill him. Let's say also that a crime victim wanting a gun for protection is completely understandable, and that guns do in fact provide protection for the "law abiding citizen" against criminals.

If you listen to the usual pro-gun talk that "guns provide protection against crime", and that "criminals will always find a weapon", that difference should actually be less than the difference in gun ownership. So what accounts for the difference? Either there is something about gun ownership that is being ignored or there is something about Americans.

Not criticizing or saying I have the answer. Just that it is an interesting question.

M14 = M1A or Canada only Norinco M14s

Many communities have deleted large parts of their police forces = crime is on the rise and people are buying guns. Now you even have Libs buying guns.

@moderator- I wasn't comparing the USA to other countries. I was saying that the murder rate in the USA is higher than can be explained by the rate of gun ownership. Either the increase in guns results in a greater than proportional increase in murder, or there is something else going on. That is not a pro-gun or anti-gun statement, just a statistical fact, which nobody ever tries to explain.

My father took me to a gun show when I was in high school. The testosterone level in the room was in the red. I thought it was funny.

Many communities have deleted large parts of their police forces = crime is on the rise and people are buying guns." My family's been a victim to two people getting guns illegally and those two are now well out of jail. I've seen people shot and killed, by punks with guns illegally obtained in just two short years. I've been held up in Newark, car jacked in Philly, and my mom's house back in Miami has been robbed three times. You figure out a way to prevent the above from happening and find a way to give the common person a sense of safety and I will invite you to my house and we can watch me melt my guns and I will even help you bring down the NRA. Until then, you are really focusing on the wrong group.

This is not news. It is a trade show that happens every year regardless of all the illegal gun crimes in America.

Gun control won't change anything. Guns, swords and light sabers is a question of responsibility and civism. All come with eduction.

Only in America.

yabits - Perhaps the promoters can do something nice for Representative Giffords. Like a big poster with GET WELL SOON written out in bullet holes.

I believe the promotors and citizens of Pima County will elect a new Sheriff instead. A Sheriff who is willing to enforce the existing laws and not ignore the 2 dozen warnings that there was a mentally unstable and dangerous lunitic wandering the streets.

"Conventioneers here groaned about any new battle over gun rights."

It always takes one of their own killed for idiots like these red-necks to realize that guns are not a 'necessary' part of life, and having them is in fact a real danger. I honestly believed that some day the United States would grow up, but it seems not only do they NOT learn from their idiocy, they push it further in order to get a few bucks.

Funny how people don't understand that others hunt and others use guns to protect their livestock from predators. What is needed is restrictions on the more assault like weapons that are easily obtainable not restrictions on the folks who use guns for the above purposes.

You may have blood on your hands (I don't know) but neither the promoters nor NRA members were involved in the shooting of Giffords or the others. The majority of voters believe that any legislative reaction would amount to punishing all gun users for the crimes charged to Loughner.

Loughner is the problem.

Loughner is the problem.

The problem appears to be that there are far too many Loughners.

And far too many weapons that they can easily get heir hands on.

smitty: " I honestly believed that some day the United States would grow up, but it seems not only do they NOT learn from their idiocy" You know, you're right and its that immaturity that keeps me worried enough to keep a gun around to protect me from the idiots. Get rid of the idiots, I'll get rid of my guns. Thanks for agreeing with me of sorts.

And far too many weapons that they can easily get heir hands on." And I could easily roll right down to Yokosuka and buy chucks, throwing stars, knives, swords, stabbing pins, choke ropes and I can do that too in most cities across the US.

None of the over educated here has offered any logical reason why I should feel safe by guns being completely banned.

All of these bastards, NRA etc..have lots and lots of BLOOD on their hands!" el: diablo!, just who's hurting our communities? I highly doubt any one of the perpetrators in my above post were NRA members, much less legalized gun owners.

Here's something, and as cleo points out, "there are far too many Loughners" I was just watching American Gangster last night and I thought what is the reason that this film is so liked? Was it the fall of a bad man (he certainly was not portrayed as one), was it about the cop who took him down? What is that everyone liked about it? It was about the power of being a gangster! Gangsters don't care about the law and Mexico is proof of that.

I have to tell ya. I love this. I love that they're holding the gun show, despite all the outrage. Capitalism in action baby!

I remember watching an episode of "Family Ties" a long time ago, where the family got spooked by a break-in in their house and decided reluctantly to purchase a gun. In the end, they realized that owning a gun caused them much more worry than not having it at all.

This was pretty much in line with how I feel towards guns. I know that if I ever owned one, I too would feel worried about it 24/7. Is it safe? Have I locked it properly? If there is a break-in, would a thief find it and steal it? Even if it is in a safe place, would I be able to quickly access it in the event a burglar came into my house? If I carry it under my jacket, have I properly put the safety on so that it doesn't automatically go off? Is it really safe carrying it everywhere I go to keep me safe? Will someone notice me carrying it under my jacket and wrongfully assume I'm a crook (because I know I would be suspicious of anyone I notice who looks as if they are packing some heat)?

The gun control debate has too many nutters on both sides to be effective...

cleo - The problem appears to be that there are far too many Loughners.

And why are there too many Loughners? Loughner was known to the Sheriff's department as early as 2007. Dozens of efforts were made to get the Sheriff to do something about a walking/talking lunatic that was free to threaten society. The Sheriff had the authority to take Loughner into custody and plenty of time to do it.

arrestpaul - too many Loughners as in too many people who think pulling a trigger is a solution to anything. 'Doing something' about one or two 'walking/talking lunatics' isn't going to solve the problem of lots of crazy people who appear normal until they blow.

Japan also has its share of crazies (the usual JT suspects will gleefully quote some dubious survey that put the figure at a third of the population, or some such) and some of them do occasionally blow; yet the numbers killed or injured tend to stay pretty low.....why? coz the crazies can't get their hands on guns and have to do the best they can with knives. Or maybe they get so stressed out at not being able to kill crowds of people that they get depressed and add themselves to the suicide statistics.

One or two? The Sheriff created an environment of not dealing with the actual problems of the people under his jurisdiction. Whether it's lunatics, illegal aliens, car jackers or muggers, the Sheriff couldn't be bothered to do his job.

Replacing the Sheriff will make Pima County a safer place.

cleo - so the reason Japan is so safe (as in, the lack of a weekly shoot-out) is because we have good Sheriffs?

If you're going to make up both sides of a conversation, should you be doing it public?
