Of course they'll be 'back to normal' by Wednesday -- this is a daily event in the US, with its lax gun laws. Isn't that three mass shootings in less than a week?

Actually, your right -- I don't really feel any particular sadness for the shooter, though it is sad he was reduced to the point where he felt the need to do what he did, and was given the means to potentially kill others with ease. I feel bad for his family, as well, though fortunately they don't have the weight of any other casualties to add to this disaster.

But it's still interesting that the only way you guys can try and rebut the fact that yet ANOTHER gun-nutter caused or could have caused another gun massacre is by suggesting the poster is 'insincere'.

I feel sadness for the shooter. For one thing, we don't know all the circumstances in this case. I suspect drugs were involved. In the few reports I have read the observation about a 'dead look' in his eyes was frequent. I worry you have another decent kid gone off to university and thrown into an experience he probably wasn't ready for. His suicide is as tragic as any other life taken before its time.

And yes, your insincerity creeps me out.

Tim wasn't engaging in a gun debate. He was just questioning the sincerity of your comments. You're getting a bit better, tho. In the past you'd ignore the victims and go straight into the gun debate with the usual shots at the US. Looks like you've learned the value of lip service. If you keep practicing you'll be able to fool people like Tim into believing that you really do care about the victims. But that will take some time.

On occasion I find myself agreeing with smithinjapan, while on the other hand these weapons are the end result of a person who obviously has suffered years of mental health issues or drug abuse. People in this state of mind will act out, regardless, and will seek the weapon most readily available.

The effects of powerful modern drugs prescribed by the family doctor (both going on and coming off) have to be considered, but few people are willing to address these publicly.

Shooting, killing at university campuses, high schools seems an endless endemic problem in the US of A. The country is still, in the 21st century, the wild west.

Seems odd to read that no-one was killed by the gunman, except the gunman, You'd expect a much higher body count from a Texan, given the state's close association with guns and the Wild West.

Yet another shooting at a university campus? And this happens less than a week after the shooting at Seton Hall in New Jersey. In that, one woman was killed and four others hospitalized.

This type of stuff was news to me when it first started happening almost 2 decades ago. Now it is so common that I don't even flinch one bit when I read this stuff.

Actually, I think violent crime on campus is down. It's just reported with much greater intensity (like on Japanese news sites) than before. Don't be so European....actually learn something about the US before opening your mouth.
