What the hell Mexico? How many failures does it take for this to happen? What perfect storm of incompetance blew through these peoples minds to set up a youth camp with no security, no outside communication, no emergency responce personnel, and no ability to defend themselves in a country where mass murders are reported on a weekly basis? This is just stupid.

The park is supposed to be patrolled by local police, but the attack occurred during the night and it was unclear whether officers were on duty at the time.

...

The state government said in a statement that it had witness’ descriptions of the attackers and pledged to catch and punish those responsible.

Why do the people in Mexico tolerate this? What do they have to gain from allowing their failure of a government pursue monsters in human flesh with little to no chance of success? There's a time for waiting and theres a time for armed mobs. Go out and burn down a cartel hideout, beat a few drug dealers to death, get a lock on their command chain and start up a bounty program. Your government won't do it. At this point I don't know whats worse; the horrors comitted by the cartels, the failure of the government to get a handle on the situation, or the citizens who have been complicit to both the horrors and the failures.

I believe the quote goes ""All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." Courtesy of Edmund Burke

Well, you see " The Question " sir, is that some GENIUS, quite a few years ago, decided that law abiding citizens of Mexico no longer " NEEDED " to be ALLOWED to own FIREARMS, seeing as, of course, no one NEEDS to own a firearm. So NOW, you have the scenario that " When GUNS are OUTLAWED, only OUTLAWS will have GUNS ",

and you can SEE what that has caused to the good people of Mexico, they can NO LONGER FIGHT BACK.

Mexico is an absolute shambles. Cartels are killing and mutilating tourists and leaving the bodies (minus heads) at shopping malls in tourist destinations to try to break the government by killing the tourist trade. I'm pretty sure the main purpose of this atrocity is exactly what they got....bunches of negative media about Mexico.

Maybe (a very BIG maybe) something might get done when one of these incidents spills north across the almost completely unsecured boarder into the U.S. but maybe that is wishful thinking.

That's just ridiculous, so you're saying that if everybody owned guns, then the violence will magically disappear. Yeah, right.

In the Middle East everyone owns an AK-47 so I guess there's no violence in the middle east since they're just allowed to protect themselves. Oh wait...

I think the Mexicans are out-doing the whole middle east in dead bodies currently, Thomas.

@Madverts:

Not even close.

Funny, the resident Mexican who bashes Osaka anytime something happens hasn't commented on his messed up country.

I'm a gun rights avdocate and even I don't think that guns solve anything. I maintain the view that it's Mexico's culture that needs to be seriously reevaluated. When people allow drug smugglers, human trafficers, and mass murderors to operate freely within their country something is horribly wrong at every level of society.

Not even close.

I'd actually have to check that. It's got to be pretty close at this point. A couple dozen die in a car bombing in Iraq, a couple dozen decapitated bodies are found under a bridge in Mexico.

Mexico's gone wild.

@TheQuestion: The whole middle east is pretty big, Check the body count in Syria lately.

This violence in Mexico is caused by the drug cartels. The drug cartels are funded by the drug trade. The drug trade exists, for all practical purposes, to supply the demand for drugs in the U.S. It follows, then, that the violence in Mexico will continue unabated until the U.S. demand for illicit drugs is curtailed.

In other words, don't hold your breath.

"The whole middle east is pretty big, Check the body count in Syria lately."

Syria might tip the balance in all fairness, but the Mexican drug war bodycount can hold its' own with Islamic nuts with an AK:

Mexico's Federal Gun Ownership laws are very complicated.

That country is messed up. Build a very, very high wall between the U.S. and leave Mexico out there.

Hate to break your bubble but they supply many more countries than just the U.S. What you need to look at is the overall known drug abuse worldwide as well as the "manufacturers".

I feel sorry for Mexicans, but at the same time this is exactly what happens when corruption runs unchecked. They weakened their own ability to have a stable system of government and LAW ENFORCEMENT. It all comes crumbling down. Although I don't know what the drug cartels hope to achieve should they somehow destroy the government in which case will effectively destroy a country in which nobody would do business with and quite possibly have to deal with surrounding countries invading with military might beyond their comprehension.
