these so called "fighters" always shield themselves by getting held out in schools, residential areas and places where they expose innocent people to danger. They dont have the guts to fight out in the open. Thats fine, we have people that can operate in the dark as well, we'll get to them more carefully from now on.

I guess some people aren't equipped to understand the difference between accidentally killing civilians in a war opposed to deliberately targeting as terrorists do.

" is just another excuse for terrorists to pull stunts like this."

There is no excuse for "a stunt like this".

Mangaman: In 2009 it was reported that possibly as many as 5 hundred and 38

Translation: One guy wrote 538 on a website somewhere and that's the highest I've ever seen so I'm going to run with that number...

Mangaman: Every time a predator drone wipes out a line a cars and kills not only a suspected terrorist, but his whole family is just another excuse for terrorists to pull stunts like this.

Right, because brainwashing from religious zealots only plays a very small part in the mindset of a terrorist. The rest is just plain logic that we all share. That allows us to accurately predict the justification of people intent on murdering civilians because they are, after all, no different from us...

wolfbiscuits, honor means having the decency to make sure you are killing the right people, even if it risks your own life. Taking the chance of killing the wrong people because you could not be bothered to go see them for yourself is without honor. Knowingly killing a man receiving medical attention is without honor. Knowingly killing a man's innocent wife just to be rid of him is without honor. This was done to Baitullah Mehsud and his wife by predator drone. Look it up.

The Question, yeah, you know how many civilians have been killed. Yeah, sure you do. Anyone dares to carry a gun in a warzone in his own country is summarily branded Taliban or al-Quaida and people like you sure can't be bothered asking questions. They also track and kill people suspected of being terrorists. Do you know what a suspect is? Can you imagine if the police started killing suspects? There is no difference.

In the town of Wana, in South Waziristan, a predator drone hit the wrong house and killed a tribal leader and his whole family, including a five year old child. In 2009 it was reported that possibly as many as 5 hundred and 38 innocent people were killed by predator drones, including children.

This cowardice does not impress me in more ways than one. I say again, I do not like the terrorism of either group, but at least these guys in Iraq put their life on the line for their message.

Sarge, they had more honor than those who fly predator drones by remote control or those who drop bombs from aircraft knowing no one can touch them. I do not approve of these guys either, but at least they knew they might die when they started it. As for killing more than their targets, I would say they are about on par.

I think I need a definition of what "honour" means, as this seems like pretty medieval/fundamentalist thinking.

A debate revolving about each sides bodycount?

No thanks.

Molenir, the only mention of "three people" is when they talk about the councilmen, which are not the terrorists. I guess you didnt read the story so closely. Irrespective of their political or religious beliefs, they didnt deserve to die.

You are correct, somehow I got it in my head, that while many people were killed, they were all murdered by just 3 terrorists. In reality, the story doesn't state how many were involved in this murderous action. While I assume you were referencing the councilmen who were murdered by these monsters, the terrorists did deserve to die, and the world is a much better place without them in it. Just sad its lacking those they managed to kill as well.

Sarge, they had more honor than those who fly predator drones by remote control or those who drop bombs from aircraft knowing no one can touch them.

I don't see how thats possible. You are talking about people who have no honor. Contrasted with people who make great efforts to avoid killing civilians. I think you don't have a clue what you're talking about. Either that or you are avoiding saying you support murder.

lesgrande: So easy for you to type those words into a keyboard. Try talking to an Iraqi refugee family

Likewise. Just talk to a family butchered by Saddam.

Targeted strikes on weapons positions and insurgent targets after numerous authorizations with comparatively few civilian casualties without risking your own people to bats*** crazy insurgents with bombs strapped to their chests and no reguard for human life. That's not dishonorable, it's calculated.

Additionally, the civilian casualties are most certainly not anywhere near 'on par' given that only a few thousand troops have been killed in nearly a decade of fighting while insurgents like these have killed tens of thousands of civilians, civilians that they purposfully targeted.

@SuperLib "Iraq is so much better off without Saddam. Disagreement with that is just choosing sides and not being true to the facts."

So easy for you to type those words into a keyboard. Try talking to an Iraqi refugee family (who make up part of the 4 million who have been displaced by the war)whose patriarch was killed in the conflict. With no breadwinner (Iraqi women traditionally remain at home)the family is left to scrape by on their own or with other families living a miserably precarious hand-to-mouth existence.

So where are the reminders that Iraq is so much better off without Saddam?

Ah, welcome to the fringe....where good intentions go so astray they come back to haunt everyone. When does your madrass open? Sounds like you've got the lingo for at least a few good lessons.

I do not approve of these guys either, but

"even if it has so far escaped the political unrest rolling across the Arab world."

I guess in this "journalists" mind the last 8 years in Iraq never happened? Don't you think the Iraqis have sort of been there and done that? Or, given this murderous event, already being there and doing that?

So where are the reminders that Iraq is so much better off without Saddam? Where are those so desperate to defend the foolhardy invasion?

Molenir at 08:31 AM JST - 30th March As sad as this is. There is one very positive thing thats coming out of this. The world is a much better place without these 3 people in it.

The problem is these guys are actually glorified by there terror comrades who follow suit. This is the end goal for these guys ain't it ? Just blow themselves up and take as many lives as possible.

In their distorted and twisted mind, it's what they believe will take them to heaven with a dozen or so virgins waiting for them somewhere on top.

Really twisted people who have no respect and honor for life.

The world is a much better place without these 3 people in it.

The problem with this post hoc rationalization is that the loss of three such people doesn't represent a significant reduction in their still-living comrades, the exploits of which I'm fairly certain we'll be reading more about, soon, on JT.

They have no honor.

"blew themselves up"

Correction: Had no honor.
