Time to declare martial law.

Get the US army out of Afghanistan and into Mexico. The Mexican police don't stand a chance the way things stand.

My poor beloved Mexico. So close to god but so far away from the USA and its protective love and care. Sounds like this policeman must have been, really, really corrupt, maybe helping enemies of the ZETAS (all USA trained elite ex Mexican Army rangers) I wonder if legalizing drugs in Mexico and the USA would do away with this kind of crime???

Leave that part of the US army in Afghanistan, but get most of it out of Iraq. Mexico for the Mexicans.

The gangs get their revenues from the drugs they sell to Americans, and smuggle in their guns that they buy in the US via Juarez, Nogales and Tiajuana. Mexico's drug lords make the Colombians and Jamaicans seem tame by comparison and the instability is rapidly beginning to spill over to the US. It's an absolutely appalling state of affairs and can only get much, much worse.

Damn and I thought Mexico was finally making a push to join us in the 21st century! What a waste to see a beautiful country digress this way. The Mexican gov. should swallow its pride and ask for assistance, it owes its citizens this as they have been paying the price with their safety and in a lot of cases their lives.

Said it before and I'll say it again: Spend less money and energy on locking up drug addicts, and spend more on putting the a-holes who peddle these drugs out of commission. It's in situations like these that I seriously reconsider the necessity of trials or due process for these thugs.

Of course, as a former Columbian drug lord-turned-prison-convict once said (and I'm paraphrasing here), "If there weren't such a lucrative market in the US, no one would be in the business of selling drugs in the first place."

They need to start going top down; declare martial law and nab the leaders using the military. I'm not sure the US could afford it (people-wise), or want to get involved, but this would be an AWESOME chance for them to go and help out a government, police force, and military that CLEARLY needs it. Ultimately it would benefit the US as well, since the drugs are finding their way there.

At the very least the US could do what it can to make sure that THEY are not sending the weapons to Mexico.

Until then, hang in there, Mexico, and take these gangs down as much as possible!

Drugs should be given away free(pharmaceutical grade) to all those idiotic enough to want them..this would remove at a stroke the main motivator for the majority of the crime associated with the illicit trade, which is money not the actual drug.I don't care if halfwit harry down the road is happily sozzled 24/7..but i do care if he burgles my house to fund his losers habit. Cut the price of it by increasing the supply of it..

I don't think the drug war is 'escalating'; sadly, it's been this bad for a while. I love Mexico; this is hard to read about.

Most of the guns they use are not from the US. That's a myth created by a tricky statistic. And the US sends Mexico billions in aid to help them. It's a partnership, not two people standing on different sides of the fence.
