""The U.S. State Department said Israel must comply with international law and do "significantly more to ensure the protection of civilians". It added, however, that it supports Israel's right to defend itself.""
Aha.

The U.S. State Department said Israel must comply with international law and do "significantly more to ensure the protection of civilians".
empty words.

""However, until now, the occupation continues to be obstinate over an agreement over the issues of the ceasefire and withdrawal, and has made no step forward," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.""
Israel will NOT withdraw, Simple as that. so stop beating a dead horse, Hamas.
""Netanyahu has consistently said the war will only end once Hamas is eradicated as a military and governing force""
Mission IMPOSSIBLE.

Do Palestinian people regret supporting Hamas?
No? No hope.
GuruMick
Israel not killing "Hamas " are they ?
Killing innocent people, mainly women and children. Thats a fact.
Get rekt, Israel I say.
Overwhelming use of brute force and Israel cannot even project an end to this war .
If Israel defines victory as "the elimination of Hamas " this will not be achievable.....Hamas is an idea as much as a resistance force.
Charged war criminal Netanyahu wallows in the suffering of a people he deems lesser, and invokes ancient Bible myths to describe how the killing will take place.
Israeli people meantime, as in WW2 Germany, are taught "this is the people we hate and this is how we kill them "

Why are the terrorists still keeping the hostages? Answer this to have a better understanding of the situation.

There is a wrong assumption that the siege on Gaza and Lebanon by Israel’s IDF would end once the hostages are released by Hamas. Netanyahu is aiming to consolidate his gains and to expand the mass killings of Palestinians, regardless.
This terrible conflict would end the first 24 hours the US administration stops shipping lethal weapons to Israel but, as we know, there is too much at stake for the US lobbies in Wall Street.

Hamas and it's supporters have brought this upon themselves. Hamas are still holding innocent civilians, children mostly. If it were my child I would support ANY steps for their release. Israel must stay the course and secure the region with the total obliteration of terrorists.

Why no mention of the 10,000? hostages held in Israeli jails and prison camps? There has been so much underreporting of these prisoners forcibly abducted from Gaza and the West Bank that it can only be deemed a cover-up orchestrated by the Israelis and western governments in cahoots with their MSM. No country on earth could do to a European population what the Israelis have done to Gaza and get away with it (except again maybe Israel?).

Israel has a right to self-defense, but this right cannot be indiscriminate vengeance. And there cannot be collective responsibility of the Palestinian people for the actions of a terrorist minority from Hamas.

Yes Fos...all true.
Why does Israel get a "free pass " in this war from the USA ?
AIPAC ?
Arms sales ?
Disregard for Palestinian people ?
Got me beat
GuruMick
Gahan...do you think the IDF conduct is "helping " the release of hostages ?
Hundreds of thousands of protesting Israeli citizens do not.
Netanyahu is the chief impediment to the hostage release.
What is his motivation in this refusal to negotiate ?

We've been here before. Hamas isn't serious. Keep bombing.
Because Hamas is a terrorist organization, as proven by their actions. The same applies to Hezbollah and some other groups backed by Iran.
And it isn't a free pass. There are disagreements about what to allow and what not to allow. Israel is a country that knows the US and how far to push extremely well. All prior attempts to make peace with the Palestinians has failed - not because it wasn't achieved, but because of the fringe Palestinians who would kill any leader who agrees to anything less than the destruction of Israel. That's a non-starter for the US, which means that Palestinians need a more moderate leadership group BEFORE there will ever be peace.
Most Americans have Jewish friends. We don't even think about them as being radical. I worked in a company founded by 50% Israelis and I've traveled with them internationally. You get to know people really well when you travel with them, have a few beers and discuss all sorts of topics. My friends were in the Israeli defense force and stood guard at checkpoints. They shared stories of things that happened at those check points that I wouldn't have believed if I didn't know their wives and children too. Basically, the IDF did crazy, unpredictable things to keep the violent Palestinians off guard at every check point. It was a technique to stay alive, not just to inconvenience everyone trying to get through.
If the Palestinian leaders were reasonable and able to make the best deal for their people, not just what the hard-liners demand, this would have all never happened and they'd have their own state for many decades now.

Have you ever heard of UN Resolution 242 which requires Israel to withdraw from the borders of territories occupied before 1967?
Decent human beings everywhere – including many in Israel – are profoundly disturbed by the daily violations of human dignity and freedom of movement Palestinians have been subjected to. Leave in those conditions for decades and then ask your friends if they do not became extremists. Or when they steal your parents land.
We must be very clear that the people of Palestine have every right to struggle for their dignity and freedom. It is a cause that the people of Israel should support: the liberation of Palestine will liberate Israel, too
GuruMick
The Fu...disagree on all points and I will respond to one only.
Israel has never agreed to an independent, viable Palestinian state.
The last Israeli PM who came a little closer was assassinated by a radical Jew in Israel. Stabbed while leaving a conference.
Netanyahu campaigns on "No Palestinian state while I am PM "
Yeah, we all have Jewish friends...they are not Israeli though and haven't had the indoctrination of the military service and right wing figures in media and public life.
Killing 50,000 women and kids has not bought an end to this war, rightly now termed a genocide.
Wasabi
Of course but in this case they will have zero excuses and will lose all supports.

@Gahan
you sound like the Israeli propaganda machine. It’s not going to work. The world has woken up to the atrocities committed by Israeli on a daily basis even before 7th Oct. Israel is a rogue nation and IDF are the real terrorist.
It has become the most hated nation on earth!
Stop the violence!
