Pot calls kelltle black. Ah, Hannity...

6 ( +9 / -3 )

This little feud will be entertaining. Of course, Kimmel will continue to make Hannity look even more foolish than Hannity does to himself.

13 ( +17 / -4 )

Shame on Kimmel for drawing attention to Hannity. Hannity's ratings must be slipping. Rachel Maddow's beating him.

http://thehill.com/homenews/media/381758-maddow-beats-out-hannity-to-be-most-watched-cable-news-host-in-march

Hannity's got a hard core group of followers, that 33% of Americans who have hardened synapses and remain blinkered in their views of the world, among them ultra-rightists, evangelicals and others who are easy prey for Hannity and his ilk's distortions. Curious that Putin's troll farmers continue to focus attention on that 33%.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

A couple of entertainers going at it.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

I am no fan of Hannity at all but Kimmel's comments were rude, disgusting, and degrading.

3 ( +13 / -10 )

whole ass circus

Heh

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Team Kimmel here. Obama spoke with no foreign accent and yet he was pummeled for being un-American and a Muslim born outside the US. And his wife was bashed for daring to wear sleeveless dresses. I mean, sleeveless! How dare she.

I have no sympathy for Hannity.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Kimmels playing to an audience of the same low caliber and filthy mindset. They preach tolerance towards gays yet utilize them as a punchline. They preach respect for women, and then use them as a punchline. They preach against bullying yet spend their days bullying people, just to get a laugh. They are the most hypocritical classless people on the face of the earth, devoid of humanity and a soul.

-8 ( +10 / -18 )

Sean Hannity is still on TV? Really? I'm fairly conservative, but found him offensive on many levels. 10+ yrs ago was the last time I listened to him on the radio. Can't say I ever saw him on TV.

Kimmel is doing a public service, just like his predecessors did from times before I was born.

0 ( +8 / -8 )

Well Kimmel just lost ALL his LGBT fanbase. His days are numbered as a late night comedian.

-7 ( +6 / -13 )

sick, twisted, creepy, perverted weirdo

I’m sure I came across those very words in a job advertisement for male presenters at Fox News. They followed the word “Wanted”.

8 ( +15 / -7 )

’m sure I came across those very words in a job advertisement for male presenters at Fox News. They followed the word “Wanted”.

Your not really a comedian either.

-9 ( +7 / -16 )

Hannity is a fool but Kimmel making fun of Melania's English I didn't appreciate. She's a polyglot speaker of 5 or 6 languages so these men are far below her in abilities

8 ( +14 / -6 )

Fox News Channel host Sean Hannity is vowing to continue his attacks on ABC late-night comic Jimmy Kimmel

Spot the difference.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Always love Hannity, love how he just doesn't give in to liberal hypocrisy, but having said that, I also think Kimmel's remarks reprehensible, whether you like the President or not, making fun of any first lady in public is just below the belt.

-11 ( +5 / -16 )

also think Kimmel's remarks reprehensible,

Glad to see you believe in maintaining decency when talking about public figures.

What do you think of birtherism?

Reprehensible?

9 ( +13 / -4 )

Glad to see you believe in maintaining decency when talking about public figures.

I do.

What do you think of birtherism?

Now? I don't.

Reprehensible?

When Podesta first threw out that lie, I did.

-15 ( +2 / -17 )

What do you think of birtherism?

Now? I don't.

Probably best. No decent person can defend it. Beyond reprehensible.

How about claiming a man’s father was involved in the assassination of JFK with zero evidence?

Given your admirable belief in maintaining decency when talking about public figures, this must have disgusted you.

Just making sure your moral indignation is across the board and not selective.

Anything else would be hypocrisy.

12 ( +15 / -3 )

I applaud anyone holding Jimmy Kimmel's feet to the fire. I have no respect for the man, and insulting someone for having an accent is low, particularly when there is so much more worthy to mock about Melania.

The thing is though, Kimmel is a late night talk show host. He is barely culturally relevant. Hannity cosplays as a journalist, which means he should hold himself to a higher standard of behavior. If he had a career of integrity and was criticizing Kimmel in a responsible way, I might even applaud him. But no one doubts for a second that a trawl through Hannity's toxic video history would provide evidence of behavior just as low. Hannity isn't attacking Kimmel because Kimmel did wrong, Hannity is attacking Kimmel because Hannity is desperate for attention and senses weakness. He's the wrong person who accidentally found the right cause and is pursuing it in the wrong way.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Given your admirable belief in maintaining decency when talking about public figures, this must have disgusted you.

There are many things that are disgusting, if I made a list of everything the left have said and done within the past year or even month alone, it would read like a Bible.

Anything else would be hypocrisy.

If only the left would learn that very definition.

And no doubt you didn't about Michelle Obama? All of you bashing Kimmel were leading

I never thought bashing Michelle Obama while in the WH was a good thing, people did. I hated her stance on trying to lecture people like her husband on how we should eat or take care of ourselves, I don't need the hear the woman's advice on health that was one of my biggest complaints about the woman, but other than that, she just there, no one really important as a political figure.

from the front when the redneck "conservative" blowhard US media were bashing her.So drop the pious rhetoric. The truth is real.

No, I will not. Conservatives hated her and as I have stated before, she was always like her husband trying to lecture (talk down) to people as if they were the moral police of ethics, give me a break! That condescending attitude they had was so off-putting and that was one of the things that conservatives hated about Michelle that's why later I'm sure she was told to pipe down and keep her moth closed which she did quite well in the second half of her husbands admin. But other than that, some of the other unnecessary things SOME in the conservative media would say were low.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

I think Hannity is a ding-dong, but let's face it: If Kimmel made fun of a Democrat's foreign wife, he would be every kind of "-ist" they could throw at him.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

I think Hannity is a ding-dong, but let's face it: If Kimmel made fun of a Democrat's foreign wife, he would be every kind of "-ist" they could throw at him.

Exactly. At least Fallon is smart enough to pretty much stay away from doing what Colbert and Kimmel do. He does it lightly which I don't have a problem with, understand it goes with the territory, but the other two are just way over the top.

-11 ( +3 / -14 )

There are many things that are disgusting, if I made a list of everything the left have said and done within the past year or even month alone, it would read like a Bible.

Maybe you could, but left or right is irrelevant when you are talking about standards which should apply to all.

I just wonder why you continually change the subject when someone points out the reprehensible things said by Melania’s husband.

I’m just looking for consistency and lack of hypocrisy.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Maybe you could, but left or right is irrelevant when you are talking about standards which should apply to all.

They should, this is true.

I just wonder why you continually change the subject when someone points out the reprehensible things said by Melania’s husband.

I didn't, I just like getting to the point.

I’m just looking for consistency and lack of hypocrisy.

Same here.

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

Melania Trump should not be ridiculed for her accent. That is neither appropriate nor funny.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

Is making fun of someone’s accent that bad? My wife makes fun of mine. One of my coworkers makes fun of his own pronunciation of English and others join in.

I’ve never watched Kimmel’s TV show and can’t judge how he goes about his work, but is making fun of someone’s accent regarded as off-limits?

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Is making fun of someone’s accent that bad? My wife makes fun of mine. One of my coworkers makes fun of his own pronunciation of English and others join in.

I questioned myself earlier today on whether making fun of someone's accent is bad, for the reasons you gave, and I decided that yeah, it's bad. Any time you are making fun of someone, it's not nice. Especially if it is something they cannot control. The examples you gave were people having fun with you. And while the point is the same in both cases (an accent), the difference is in familiarity. If you walked into a combini and asked for an o-nai-giri (おにぎり) and the person started laughing at you and gave you a hard time, it would be entirely rude and unappropriate. But if your wife was standing beside you and joked about it, it probably wouldn't be such a big deal.

Kimmel is a public figure, speaking of Melania a public figure, and I don't get the impression he is friendly with her, nor having fun with her. So I do think it is inappropriate.

Not that this makes Hannity any less of a 'whole ass circus' (heh) though.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

I notice most seemto be avoiding the homophobic slurs. Kimmel should be fired for those.

-12 ( +2 / -14 )

Remember when liberals went crazy when Trump said “bad hombres”? Kimmel attack on Melania’s accent and her being an immigrant is more than inappropriate. But liberals will still support their guy Kimmel while calling for firings of conservatives for 1/10th oh what he has done.

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

liberals will still support their guy Kimmel

Not such a good reader, are you:

I questioned myself earlier today on whether making fun of someone's accent is bad, for the reasons you gave, and I decided that yeah, it's bad. Any time you are making fun of someone, it's not nice.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Trump's people, the ones who laughed when Trump mocked a disabled reprter and gave out high 5s when they learned Trump cheated on Melania because the porn star was hot, and Trump, the man who talked about sexual molestation with glee, will not sleep until Kimmel is silenced for making fun of an accent.

My apologies to Melania.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

I notice most seemto be avoiding the homophobic slurs. Kimmel should be fired for those.

Do you think public figures should be fired for making homophobic slurs or supporting homophobic causes? How about those making disparaging remarks about immigrants?

It should go without saying that you’d hold elected officials to a much higher standard than late night TV stars.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

The comments were racist, homophobic, misogynistic and sexist. If you don’t condemn the person who said them means you support those. Liberal rules.

-7 ( +5 / -12 )

Late night tv show people have employers. Liberals love to boycott the advertisers of anyone who says anything they don’t like as a way to suppress free speech. Why does it not apply in this case?

Elected officials are elected. If people don’t like what they do or say they will be unelected the next time.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

bass4funk: "Always love Hannity..."

We know you do. He's a racist, misogynist pig just like your president and fellow sexual assaulter and wife beater Bill O'Reilly (who is demanding that his payoffs to women he's assaulted be kept quiet because he doesn't want the records of the silence agreements public), and because he supports such moral leaders as Roy Moore without batting an eye. What is there not to love? Of course, he just got cut off until his own network, but hey.

JimizoToday  12:50 pm JST

Is making fun of someone’s accent that bad? My wife makes fun of mine. One of my coworkers makes fun of his own pronunciation of English and others join in.

Context matters. Your wife knows you, and presumably knows the boundaries of what you are comfortable with. The same with your coworker and other people at work. In these cases, an accent is just an individual quirk and joking about it when everyone involved is okay with it is a way of showing your affection or friendship for the person with the quirk. Making fun of the accent of a person you don't know, without awareness of their boundaries or a relationship between you that person however amounts to little more than making fun of them for being foreign-born, and that's poor.

If one is going to cross from gentle, playful, friendly mocking to straight-up insulting someone, you should be insulting them for their poor choices in life, not for the identity they were born into. Mock Melania for plagiarizing Michelle Obama's speech or for claiming to want to fight cyber-bullying while being married to the nation's most famous cyber bully, sure, but don't mock her just for having been born elsewhere.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Society determines what is inappropriate according to liberals. But liberal society seems to give liberals a pass for what they try to crucify non liberals for.

Did you see those homophobic comments Kimmel made? I thought we had moved past insulting men by implying they are having gay relations? Something wrong with or funny about being gay?

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

BlacklabelToday  02:44 pm JST

Late night tv show people have employers. Liberals love to boycott the advertisers of anyone who says anything they don’t like as a way to suppress free speech.

No, they don't. MAybe you should go out and interact with some liberals instead of attacking the fictional version of them that lives in your head.

Why does it not apply in this case?

Because a boycott to deplatform someone is a serious tool to be used against someone with a consistent pattern of hate in an undeserved position of power, not some low-grade late-night clown who doesn't culturally matter. Kimmel isn't even really a favorite among liberals that I've seen. Most of us are already de facto boycotting him in the sense that we don't watch him in the first place.

Learn to scale your responses to fit the wrongdoing that actually happened. By your logic, if police don't murder every person they catch jaywalking, it must mean they really support jaywalking.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Making fun of the accent of a person you don't know, without awareness of their boundaries or a relationship between you that person however amounts to little more than making fun of them for being foreign-born, and that's poor.

How about mocking people for an accent from a region of the country? Alec Baldwin mocks Trump’s accent and speech patterns. He certainly has no affection for Trump, doesn’t know him, and Trump is clearly enraged by it. A regional accent is an accident of birth in the same way Melania’s accent is. and can be as difficult to shed. There is a lot of prejudice around based on someone’s regional accent.

Does the same principle hold for Alec Baldwin?

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Alec Baldwin mocks Trump’s accent and speech patterns.

I'm pretty sure he's intending to cause offense. That's what makes it funny.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

The guy hosted the Oscars but he isn’t a representation of liberal Hollywood? Gets free attacks on Trump and his immigrant wife as a “comedian”? I didn’t realize “blackface” and homophobia is ok as a joke?

Boycotts? Laura Ingraham got boycotted by liberals simply for making a joke about the CNN kid not getting into college. 14 companies virtue signaled and stopped advertising. How about Kimmel?

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

The guy hosted the Oscars but he isn’t a representation of liberal Hollywood?

No one claimed he wasn't. You seem to be having some reading comprehension issues.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Read what @Katsu said. Said Kimmel is not a representation of liberals and to guys don’t rwally like him anyway. I say he is a perfect representation of liberals so you have to own him and his offensive comments.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Read what @Katsu said.

You read what Katsu said, because it wasn't what you just claimed.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Kimmel isn't even really a favorite among liberals that I've seen. Most of us are already de facto boycotting him in the sense that we don't watch him in the first place.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

And your claim:

The guy hosted the Oscars but he isn’t a representation of liberal Hollywood?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Anyway liberals own Kimmel and his misogynistic, racist and homophobic comments. What you do with those and do to him about those show your real values.

lets see if Kimmel does the right thing and apologizes or not.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Heh, I see you realized that your claim was proven wrong.

Anyways, the Republicans own Trump and his misogynistic, racist, and handicapped-mocking comments. What you do with those and do to him about those show your true values.

Let's see if Trump does the right thing and apologizes or not.

Oh wait, he already didn't. And you people have continued to support him fully, with nary a criticism of his words and actions.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Nope my claim stands. You guys don’t want to own Kimmel, he isn’t your favorite, you don’t really watch him etc. nope he is yours.

One article of 100 that actually isn’t about Trump and all you want to do is deflect to Trump. You had all the other 99 articles to talk about Trump, let’s talk about Kimmel once.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

JimizoToday  03:04 pm JST

How about mocking people for an accent from a region of the country? Alec Baldwin mocks Trump’s accent and speech patterns.

I'm fairly sure what's being made fun of is not Trump's regional accent, but his braggadocio/utterly-uninformed/borderline-illiterate speaking style.

When we laugh at Trump, we're not laughing at his being from wherever he is from (I mean, hell, I don't even notice a strong regional accent enough to identify his birthplace because all his other obnoxious mannerisms drown it out), we're laughing at how someone who chooses to comport themselves in the manner of a spoiled 4-year old somehow thinking he deserves to run the most powerful country in the world.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Btw I’m not whining. I’m happy to see that a liberal actually broke the liberal rules. i am looking forward to how liberals will deal with these inappropriate comments against the female, immigrant and LGBT members of our society.

All cool cause a liberal said it? That’s what it is if no action is taken and those members will finally see first hand the liberal hypocrisy that conservatives been trying to show them.

All done here. Let’s see what Jimmy has to say for himself.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

When we laugh at Trump, we're not laughing at his being from wherever he is from

No, but to be fair I have laughed about his inability to speak English properly!

3 ( +6 / -3 )

kimmel also made racist comments against an immigrant and had a video in “black face” mocking the appearance and accent of a basketball player.

What should happen to Trump? Society should see what he did and listen to what he said and decide for themselves. Which they did already.

Since then we had an election and he won so obviously people didn’t believe the comments were racist or that he was mocking the handicapped. Such a person who people believe really did that would never have won.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

kimmel also made racist comments against an immigrant and had a video in “black face” mocking the appearance and accent of a basketball player.

Trump mocked a handicapped person, called an entire nation rapists and drug dealers, and talked about sexually assaulting women.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

What should happen to Trump? Society should see what he did and listen to what he said and decide for themselves.

Same can be said for Kimmel.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Ok so if the “liberal” side of “society” doesn’t care what Kimmel said then fine. Then you have to keep your hypocrisy and sanctimonious preaching about racist comments and homophobia to yourselves. You have a chance to prove your values matter even when it’s one of your own, take it or don’t.

Im done on this.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Trump mocked a handicapped person, called an entire nation rapists and drug dealers, and talked about sexually assaulting women.

Yeah but I think Trump fans are happy because after ignoring those things for a year, distracting, mentioning everything other than Trump’s indiscretions, they can finally respond with, “What about Kimmel?”

It’s probably a pretty big exhale for them.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Strangerland: "Trump mocked a handicapped person, called an entire nation rapists and drug dealers, and talked about sexually assaulting women."

Trump didn't talk about sexually assaulting women -- he BRAGGED about it. Bragged about being able to do it whenever he wants and they can do nothing, in fact.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Kimmel is a public figure, speaking of Melania a public figure, and I don't get the impression he is friendly with her, nor having fun with her. So I do think it is inappropriate.

Come on, if Kimmel did that to Michelle or any other female Democrat he would be excoriated no doubt about it. That’s why liberals in public never joked about Michelle, they wouldn’t dare. This is the hypocrisy of the left that defies all reality. This is why Fallon is a funny and respectful comedian, even if he doesn’t care for the President, he refuses to stoop that low, he makes little off the cuff remarks which is perfectly ok.

Not that this makes Hannity any less of a 'whole ass circus' (heh) though.

With the highest knockout ratings to boot.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

if Kimmel did that to Michelle

What would he do? Call her a Harvard educated Liberal?

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Trump didn't talk about sexually assaulting women -- he BRAGGED about it.

And? Apparently, you have never been to a bar or club before.

Bragged about being able to do it whenever he wants and they can do nothing, in fact.

Could be, so what?

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

I'm fairly sure what's being made fun of is not Trump's regional accent, but his braggadocio/utterly-uninformed/borderline-illiterate speaking style.

Oh, for sure. Trump is a comic figure. I remember a great description of him as the Rodney Dangerfield of the rich.

I’m just interested in what is and isn’t regarded as fair game for comedians or anyone else.

Let’s take Trump out of this. He was a bad example.

It seems most agree it is unfair to attack Melania because of her accent. Is it okay to attack someone for a strong regional accent? Is it okay to attack someone for an ‘uneducated’ speaking style? I remember Texans ridiculing ‘hick’ accents when I lived there. I remember an Aussie coworker ridiculing another’s ‘ocker’ accent. Perhaps dialect would be a better word here as dialects can have unusual grammar. They seemed to regard these ways of speaking as sounding ‘uneducated’ and signs of stupidity.

I’m sorry to labour this but I just wonder where the line is drawn.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Oh, for sure. Trump is a comic figure. I remember a great description of him as the Rodney Dangerfield of the rich.

I think both men are funny, too bad the Dems aren’t funny at all, make me wanna cry actually as well as shake my head.

I’m just interested in what is and isn’t regarded as fair game for comedians or anyone else.

I think you can make fun of people as a comedian, but remember (most liberals don’t) like Griffin and you could end up losing your career.

Let’s take Trump out of this. He was a bad example.

Ok, insert Michelle in.

I’m sorry to labour this but I just wonder where the line is drawn

I think women and kids or spouses should be left out of it, once the kids are grown and the Presidents family are out of the WH, go right ahead. That’s my opinion.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

I don’t know about all that

Did she fake her degree? Maybe she was also born in Kenya?

but as a lawyer......not so sure.

Because....? I personally know some of her clients when she practiced and she was very competent. I personally know she is a very competent lawyer.

You have to admit Melinia was quite desperate to marry someone like Trump. Someone so young I thought would have preferred to marry someone with natural teeth and hair. like Bill Gates, who happens to have both and a lot richer.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Not that this makes Hannity any less of a 'whole ass circus' (heh) though.

With the highest knockout ratings to boot.

Don’t read too much into ratings. The Stormy Daniels interview got huge ratings.

Not a sign of quality, is it?

Perhaps you should also look at your claim that Fox is the only conservative voice on TV. Hannity’s boneheaded rightist rants have no competition from anyone else delivering boneheaded rightist rants for people who enjoy boneheaded rightist rants.

I used to work with a man who could create an impressive number of notes by putting his left hand under his armpit and moving his right arm like a bird flaps its wing. He was the only one doing it mind you.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

You don’t need to attack people if you don’t agree with them

We do when they think that Trump is the best and richest businessman in the world. That fact is about as false as his teeth and hair. I mean compared to a real businessman like Bill Gates? And it seems Bill Gates has real teeth and hair as icing on the cake. If I were Melinia I would have gone for someone like Bill Gates. She is a desperate girl. Nice, but desperate and I understand her reason for marrying Trump- at least temporarily. Would she actually want to stay with him? I hear they don't even share the same bedroom. I don't want to make fun of her. But I feel sorry for her and wish her the best.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

This is your America. You embraced it. You applauded when the election tampering went in your favour. You now want blanket control of what the critics say and do.

The rules of the game have changed beyond recognition in such a short space of time but the signs were there all along.

Kimmel's remarks don't matter, neither do Hannity's. It doesn't matter who runs the US anymore.

The people certainly don't have a say. Perhaps that was inevitable.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Don’t read too much into ratings. The Stormy Daniels interview got huge ratings.

Not a sign of quality, is it?

18-49 and 21.3 million viewers, more than doubling in both measures compared to last week.

For one week, now if CBS can have those kind of ratings every single night, they’d throw up for excitement, that would be pure gold, so it’s good for them, but now it’s flatlined again and that’s why the TV networks could never get the ratings that FNC or even CNN get. Good, but in this business not earth shattering, make those numbers nightly, everyone’s head and ears will perk up.

Perhaps you should also look at your claim that Fox is the only conservative voice on TV.

And killing the competition, but yes, you do have smaller cable channels, but they’re still growing.

Hannity’s boneheaded rightist rants have no competition from anyone else delivering boneheaded rightist rants for people who enjoy boneheaded rightist rants.

Hmmm.....judging by his numbers and the onslaught of the left trying to get him off the air since I don’t know when...a decade ago, he just keeps getting bigger, followed by Tucker and Ingraham who will be back tomorrow. Maybe if my old boss Griffin and Zucker would go back to telling the news instead of trying to take on this juggernaut, they could have higher ratings and more confidence and trust, but no.....

I used to work with a man who could create an impressive number of notes by putting his left hand under his armpit and moving his right arm like a bird flaps its wing. He was the only one doing it mind you.

What?

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

I think women and kids or spouses should be left out of it,

Women and spouses.

So Trump posting an unflattering picture of Ted Cruz’s wife next to Melania’s was out of order?

Remember, we are talking about standards for all.

Ingraham

Kids.

Didn’t that particular entertainer get in trouble for a nasty, spiteful little rant against a kid?

Remember, we are talking about standards for all.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

by next year this time around, no one will remember Hogg

Probably because by this time many more innocent people will have died as a result of failing to tackle the gun sickness inherent in your society.

The hateful right and conspiracy theorists will have found more kids to demonise and villify.

JimizoToday  05:43 pm JST

Is it okay to attack someone for a strong regional accent?

Remember, context is key. Particularly thanks to the Trump administration, a wave of anti-immigrant hysteria is sweeping through the right wing right now. Immigrants thus have lower social status and implicitly (or depending on the color of their skin, explicitly) less power in American society. That makes laughing at someone for having been born in another country is the equivalent of punching downward. In comedy that's a big no-no.

To laugh at someone who has a strong US regional accent, for their strong regional accent, is all other factors being equal, punching between two power equals. So it's low humor, but it's not as hurtful/hateful.

To laugh at someone who has a strong US regional accent, for things unrelated to their strong regional accent, but using their strong regional accent in the mockery, is generally speaking fine, IMHO.

Is it okay to attack someone for an ‘uneducated’ speaking style?

I don't see a problem with it in principle, although a truly thoughtful comedian should be careful that they're not actually mocking someone for being in a lower economic class, which would be punching downward.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Kimmel has become nothing but another unfunny Democratic mouthpiece. Good on Hannity for calling him out on his hypocrisy.

So lets make this clear. Sexist, xenophobic and homophobic statements are absolutely horrible.

Unless they are targeting conservatives and their families.

-10 ( +3 / -13 )

Sexist, xenophobic and homophobic statements are absolutely horrible.

Yes, Trump said these considerably. He is the president. He also made fun handicapped people. Also, my stock portfolio is down. he is both an insulting and bad president (because my stock portfolio is down)

Unless they are targeting conservatives and their families.

Melinia was so desperate she married Trump. It's just the truth and not making fun of her and I do wish her luck and I wonder if/when she will leave Trump since what's going on with the prostitutes and the fact that they sleep in separate bedrooms. In case anyone wanted to make fun of Michelle Obama that way they can't because she was successful by herself anyway. If she had never married Obama she would still be highly independent. Hannity doesn't make fun of Michelle Obama because there is nothing to make fun of towards her.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

As Kimmel has said, Hannity has called him a "sick, twisted, creepy, perverted weirdo". What did Hannity have to say about Roy Moore, and about Trump's behaviour, and about other politicians' immoral behaviour?

Hannity is not a comic, he is meant to be a news host. He should try reporting it equally, fairly, and honestly, and not get into squabbles with comedians. That press and politicians have frequently tried to control tv performers, is worrying.

You people here for sure can call Kimmel out for making fun of Ms Trump's accent (and do be sure to watch the clip before commenting), but the hypocrisy and imbalance is glaring.

Ach, what do you expect from sections of the right wing who frequently tell porkies just to get attention?

Trump's made fun of disabled people, amongst many others, but the silence on that one is very telling.

Sexist, xenophobic and homophobic statements are absolutely horrible.

It's one thing to do this. But it's another if you are president. Trump is not a decent man. And he is a bad president since my stock portfolio is down and he is going after companies like Amazon. You can see scenes where poor Melinia refuses to hold his hand. Also, Trump is not a gentleman towards her like when he just walks off without her. She deserves better than that icky fat orange man. Find your freedom girl. Dump that poor excuse of a human and bad president (since my stock portfolio is down and he failed at building the wall...and many other broken promises) and be free and happy.

I don't have any objection to the First Lady having a foreign accent.

What I do find objectionable is that her husband keeps banging on about how terrible foreigners are.

And I'm also not sure how the fact that anyone with an internet connection can see the First Lady's arse and knockers improves the USA's standing in the world. I remember not so long ago it was a diplomatic incident when we could see the former First Lady's arms. If that's not OK, why is it OK to see the current First Lady starkers?

O, before I forget, Trump is a disgraceful, cowardly, preposterous buffoon with stupid hair.

Jokes from days gone by no longer seem funny these days... Comedians should never become Politicians.

Though, Politicians can become (and maybe are already) Comedians...

Jokes from days gone by no longer seem funny these days... Comedians should never become Politicians.

Quite possibly, yes. Didn't work for Al Franken, either.

I remember the sound of jaws dropping, left, right and center when Reagan was elected. I also remember people saying it was a once-off, that nobody would elect an actor/celebrity again...

I predict that birther and conspiracist, Hannity, will run for office at some stage.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

I don't think Kimmel should make fun of someone for being a foreigner with an accent. Especially when there is so much other material to work with. He should just focus on how she worked in the US illegally, prostituted herself all the way into the white house, or used the dreaded 'chain migration' scam to bring her parents to the states.

While I don't agree with Kimmel on this point, I do like the fact that he is winding up idiots like Hannity and his ilk. It's quite funny to see how quickly those trolls are melting down over this.

He's become quite adept at drawing conservative ire, that's for sure.

All leaders should be ridiculed when deserved, it's the sign of a healthy democracy. It just happens to Trump more often because he deserves to be ridiculed.

Well, he deserves to be impeached, tbh. Now won't that make for some great material on the late night shows!

clamenza: "So lets make this clear. Sexist, xenophobic and homophobic statements are absolutely horrible. Unless they are targeting conservatives and their families."

He says, immediately after praising Hannity for what he says is pointing out hypocrisy. Sheesh. Those trees in front of you ARE the forest, my friend.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

bass4funk: "Hmmm.....judging by his numbers and the onslaught of the left trying to get him off the air since I don’t know when...a decade ago, he just keeps getting bigger, followed by Tucker and Ingraham who will be back tomorrow."

Hannity: extreme bigot and hypocrite. Tucker: biggest racist currently on there next to Pirot and Watters, and a complete moron to boot. Ingraham: why was she off until tomorrow again, and how many companies have dropped her show for ridiculing high school shooting victims? And don't you also stand behind Bill O'Reilly, who is pressing to have the details of his hush settlements in abuse cases suppressed because he doesn't want the truth getting out after lying about the pay-offs? And of course, after his wife-beatings. Fox is quite the organization... I actually kind of do believe you did once work there. Maybe as a busboy after lunch was finished, but still -- you do look up to the aforementioned bigots a whole lot.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

somehow alluding that Hannity is sexist xenophobic and homophobic.Any proof of that?

Nope. None.

His take on Obama's portrait was pretty out there. Not quite sure what that was all about.

As for his well documented homophobia?

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/sean-hannity-gay-people-aids-lgbt-homosexuality-sewer-comments-college-radio-a7995696.html

Mr Hannity called gay people “disgusting,” and compared their sex lives to “playing in a sewer,” according to tapes obtained by Media Matters. He also called homosexuality a “lower form of behaviour,” before accusing gay people of being “filled with hatred and bigotry”.“I feel sorry for your child,” he told Jody May-Chang, a lesbian woman who called into the show.

I like Jimmy Kimmel he is a fun, rational and very kind person.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

You clearly must know the correct context for those quotes. Post them.

If you have a brain in your head (debatable), you know the correct context, too.

I don’t know the correct context. I don’t listen to Hannity. How could I know? I don’t assume anything when it comes to Fox News.

You made the claim it was out of context. The onus is on you to prove this.

This is how discussions work.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

And the rest. zichi had a theory for his behaviour, which, if true, is sad. But it doesn't excuse threatening and harassing other posters. The name-calling I'm personally fine with. I've heard worse. The rest of it is just plain off the charts, deeply odd territory.

Just imagine a debate.

I provide a quote to support my argument.

My opponent claims the quote was taken out of context.

I ask what the correct context is.

My opponent claims I may not have a brain and asks me to stop being lazy.

That stinks. It’s mindless crap.

Sexist, xenophobic and homophobic statements are absolutely horrible. yet the current POTUS has done this far more than any other POTUS before him.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

I can't stand Jimmy Kimmel, he is a jerk of the first order along with Stephen Colbert.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

I never watch either of them, but they must be doing something right if you have that opinion.

They can be entertaining but my own personal fave would be John Oliver, who regularly demolishes Trump as well as other worthy targets.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Hannity is just a slimy hitman for the amoral Australian billionaire who owns Fox News and who is responsible for the filthy propaganda spread by his network. Americans are stupid to allow Rupert Murdoch to dominate their political discourse. He is much more insidious than Putin.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

So I see Jimmy did the “liberal apology”. Apologize to anyone on his side only who was offended, claim victimhood and then continue to lecture the rest of us with fake morality. Seen it a million times.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Never seen a Fox host apologise for their brand of hatred or sexual harassment.

Fair play to Kimmel.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Make fun of the current party in power, current president, wives, and anything any politician does is all fair game. It is part of the culture for talk show hosts to reflect back onto the country the absurdity of different situations.

It is funnier when the politician can't take a joke about themselves. Much funnier.

And nothing is off limits for political comedians. Nothing.

Whether that works in other countries doesn't matter. Politicians and their spouse need to have thick skins.

Their kids and other relatives ARE off limits.

And people make fun of my accent all the time when I attempt to speak Spanish or German. I find it helpful.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Not a big fan of Kimmel, always preferred Jon Stewart who seemed always balanced and fair.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

She's a polyglot speaker of 5 or 6 languages

There has never been any video evidence to suggest that. She met children in France and Italy. Apart from saying Hello, my name is Melania in the local languages, and saying how are you (in the singular) to a group of children, she spoke in English.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Hannity is the most mediocre talk show guy in America. He is not intelligent and his program is boring racist and sexist.

Hannity has been created by the Republican establishment to further its goals.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

"my own personal fave would be John Oliver, who regularly demolishes Trump"

That Oliver jerk regularly trashes Trump, but demolish? hahahahahahahaha

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

People who make fun of accents are the same people who yell chingching chongchong at Asians in the street. Almost invariably, they are creatures who have no second language skills at all. Which makes it odd that they are bullying someone for being superior to them in that regard.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

ITs instructive to see the liberals defending Kimmel on the basis of, "but you said stuff about Michelle", etc.

Hardly holding themselves to a higher standard is it?

For those of us who are neither left or right it's another mark against the limbs.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Libs

0 ( +2 / -2 )

why does anybody listen to b-grade comedians about politics?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

The Man Show stopped production in 2004. Times have changed since then, and Kimmel seems to have genuinely changed too. If Hannity going to reference Kimmel's past, it's only fair we reference his (unlike Kimmel, he hasn't changed much):

https://twitter.com/BillyBaldwin/status/983089963834081280

As far as making fun of accents, I usually don't like it... But come on, Melania reading Dr. Seuss in that tone and accent is kind of funny. As Maria said, Kimmel's a comedian. His job is to make fun. As long as he's being funny and not excessively mean toward a completely innocent or defenseless target, he gets a pass in my book.

Hannity on the otherhand is a political commentator on a news network. His job is to educate and inform, and he continuously fails.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

There really is nothing much separating you. EXcept the libs are seriously lacking in common sense when it comes to questions of policy.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

im with HANNITY, kimmel is just a low life bum.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

why does anybody listen to b-grade comedians about politics?

Hannity is pretty funny.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

"why does anybody listen to b-grade comedians about politics?"

Some people have nothing better to do, lol

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

So lets make this clear. Sexist, xenophobic and homophobic statements are absolutely horrible.

Unless it's a conservative making the comments.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

If we're talking about Hannity and accents, this clip always amuses me:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ginroxoBOZU

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Having watched him and concluded that he does not respect truth or morality, I no longer watch Hannity, and have no interest in his opinions.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Love Hannity, I think the thing with Hannity is that he is a partisan conservative, he doesn’t hide, doesn’t have to and makes no apologies about it, that’s what he gets paid to do, he’s job is to opine. Many on the left love Maddow a partisan liberal or O’Donnell a partisan and admitted socialist, they did what they do and each has their own following, if Hannity were considered a joke or less influential, he wouldn’t have monstrous ratings, if he weren’t that powerful or influential, there is NO way he would still be on TV and the same goes for FNC in general.

http://www.adweek.com/tvnewser/february-2018-ratings-fox-news-marks-194-consecutive-months-as-the-most-watched-cable-news-network/358292

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

I don't give a crap about Hannity, and comedians can make fun of Trump for being Trump all they want, but making fun of Melania's accent is pretty tasteless for someone who claims to be so righteous like Kimmel.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

As for the First Lady speaking 6 languages as her ex-friends (she forgot all about them when she married Trump) have said in the past, she doesn't "speak" 6 languages, she can say a few words in 6 different languages, enough to order a meal or to get through a check-out. Most models can do that, but she is not a true polyglot.

And Kimmel admits to being a comedian, Hannity is one too but doesn't admit to it.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

What is a Hannity?

Meanwhile, thank you President Trump, for bringing us the first First Lady to have posed nude during her working years. Nothing says class like nude pics of the First Lady.
