The VP has done little to warrant any praise. Would be true whether she were a man also. True also whatever your political or cultural or other affiliations might be

if USA wants to accuse China for something, let them do so but don't drag Japan into this... Japan needs to pivot away from being USA's puppet and become more independent especially military wise... if the Yankees piss off Beijing, its going to be our homes here in Japan being burnt down not the land of America where its far far away... i just hope ppl realize this before they go and cheer for USA to put a "stop" to the bully..

It’s very entertaining listenin to VP Harris claimin Beijington is threatening the sovereignty of nations while the da-kine Taliban just taught Washingjing a lesson for actually doin what she just said.

We shouldn’t be supporting the mouthpiece if the CCP with money by reading it.

It is free on the internet.

The CCP can’t be trusted at all, so we can’t really know if the CCP is speaking truthfully.

Of course the CCP can not be trusted. But that they are gloating about Bidens incompetence is a fact. You can speculate all day long if their stated opinions are "truthfull", LOL.

I don’t consume CNN because it’s trash.

Glad we agree on its being trash. I do consume it, as I do not stay locked within one information bubble. What is your favourite news outlet?

As they did about the Trump administration, the Obama administration, the Clinton administration, and the (fill in the blank) administration. Remember, you’re talking about the Global Times!

Err, no. Obviously, you have not been reading the Global Times. They totally hated Trump because he acted against CCP interest. The did not gloat about his weakness, because there was none to gloat about. And they were very friendly towards Obama, because he was pro China.

Obviously you have no idea what I read! But, just for fun, can you guess where this paragraph talking about Trump is from? If you guessed GT you win!

“Trump, who was mockingly called by Chinese netizens an "American comedian" with his Chinese nicknames "Chuan Jianguo" (meaning "Trump builds China" in Chinese) and "Dong Wang" (meaning a man self-claimed as a king who "knows everything"), was the hottest public figure on Weibo in 2020 for having the most hot topics on the trending list.”

Different administrations of course get different receptions from the CCP, what did you expect?

So, you think we should be both reading and believing what comes out of “the CCP mouthpiece.” Makes perfect sense.

Well, yes, you should believe that opinions in the Global Times represent the opinions of the CCP... because they do.

And yes, you should read original sources than the filtered opinions you get from the CNN talking heads.

What is your objection to that?

Harris can "accuse" the CCP in some speech in Singapore, but the fact is that if you read the CCP mouthpiece "Global Times", you will see that the CCP is in fact gloating about the weakness and incompetence of the Biden administration.

and why she have to care?why USA have to care?

Why do you care what the US is concerned about? They are a sovereign maritime nation safeguarding international waters. They have every right to do so.

America are building their own chip factories so they are not dependent upon those in Taiwan. That may have consequences for Taiwan down the line. If they do a deal with the Taliban, they will do a deal with anyone. If the value of US protection has been undermined, Japan should ask for a discount.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

CCP should submit to Taiwan and disband. Fastest, most peaceful way to reunify the true China (Taiwan) and the mainland.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

Funny coming from a country which still has colonies half way round the world, along with older colonial countries like UK and France.

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

Oh cry me a river.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Well said by VP Harris.

Communist China is a bully, and little by little they are expanding "their" territories while the neighbors sit on their hands and mumble nonsense about "rule of law".

Time to start pushing back and hitting the Commies.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

As things stand now, I wouldn't trust a single word US says about standing with allies and friends LOL

5 ( +10 / -5 )

Yes Evil.

You said President , not PM.

Harris being of minority ethnicity does not compensate for the fact that she has so far achieved very little and comes across as a pretty vacuous personality.

It's high time the CCP Leader is called-out as the ruthless dictator which he has rapidly become...... why should China lay a claim of ownership to sections of the South China Sea which are extremely distant to the Chinese mainland, like the areas bordering the east-coast of Taiwan, around the Philippines / Brunei / Malaysia / Vietnam ?

China has already fired (verbal) warning-shots to the UK whose new Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier is on the way through the straits of Taiwan soon, together with Dutch and other warships in a show of strength for maintaining freedom of passage in this region, whilst on the way to visiting Japan.

Appeasement of a deceitful dictatorial leader has always proved to be disastrous in the past - it's not a mistake the world's leaders should make again in standing up to Xi Jinping: this could get serious.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Well, she was late out of the gate, but better than nothing. Now do I think the Chinese will take her seriously, absolutely not, but it needs to be mentioned, will the US under this leadership arise to the occasion should any of our Asian allies be threatened remains to be seen.

-10 ( +3 / -13 )

A big mouth against rival China is one thing, but in practice, such a move like leaving Afghanistan means also potential future Chinese access to resources like lithium etc so they can even more successfully attack or cheaply flood U.S and Western economies. She and her mummy like boss should think first before acting or speaking too loudly.

"Singapore has had 2 Presidents of Indian origin (if that is your definition of a minority in Singapore) and the first one was of Malaysian origin (also a minority if you define that term by number of inhabitants)."

President is a ceremonial post in Singapore. The PM has the real power, and that means the Lee dynasty.

Tharman Shanmugaratnam will never become the Singapore PM even though most of the Singaporeans (both pro and anti PAP) prefer him over the seat warmers like Chan Chun Sing and others who are in the race to become the next SG PM.

Even the presidential elections have had their fair share of controversies. Halimah Yacob was appointed the President in 2017 after PAP reserved the Presidential elections for Malays. Ignoring the fact that Halimah is a half-Indian who had an Indian father and her race on the IC is mentioned as Indian (Yes, Singapore categorizes its citizens by race). PAP opponents allege this was done to keep out popular anti-PAP politician Tan Cheng Bock from running for presidency.

"Chinese in Singapore have a natural affinity with China for cultural reasons and due to their education, but that doesn't mean that they love the CCP."

Many don't want anything to do with the CCP but many (the older generation especially but also many younger ones) sympathize with the CCP.

The Chinese red claim line on the map above should really be a dotted line.

They are copying Japan’s dotted blue line round the larger area from WWII.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

First time I agree with her about anything, of course she's reading a script but anyway it's nice to hear the VP say something I guess.

-1 ( +9 / -10 )

She should be optimistic that China would leave those isles after 20 years too!

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Other NATO members will send ships with military personnel into the seas between Singapore and Japan. So there is a block and not a single country to check on the latest East Asian bubble.

Kamala Harris is correct in her description of events in the South China sea and that CCP is responsible for both theft of territory and ignoring the laws based norm simply because they are in the wrong and continue to deny that.

The Chinese threat to peace in the South China sea is ongoing and building. They have no rights there other than free passage the same as all maritime nations have.

China needs to leave the area and become a good global citizen rather than a bully that cry's when it does not get it's way.

Interesting that US can elect a President from a minority ethnicity but Singapore will never do that even if the majority of Singaporeans prefer him over the puppets that PAP keep churning out to keep the seat warm for Lee Hsien Loong's son.

As far as the SCS issue is concerned, it is interesting to read the comments of Singaporeans many of whom have sympathies with China inspite of the fact that China's dubious claims in the SCS will have an impact on Singapore's status as a logistic hub and one of the worlds busiest ports.

Why was the contested Japanese islands left out of the mix?

-12 ( +2 / -14 )

She should have giggled maniacally after saying this - would have put the fear of God into Xi and his minions.
