Cripes, I must have missed the final season of Five-O, I never knew that MacArthur quit the year before. Well then, what the heck did McGarrett say at the end of each episode? Book 'em, Chinno?

Another great one gone. I enjoyed Hawaii Five-0, but I could see how he would grow bored with the role, since the entire show revolved around Steve McGarrett. The last season, his replacement was kind of a thorn in the side of McGarrett, not just following along all the time. But by then the show had longed "Jumped the Shark."

I guess that is why for the new 5-0, there is more of a dialouge between McGarrett and Danno now, keeping two personalites at odds with each other but in a good way.

RIP.

The original series was good. The new one is pretty crappy thusfar. It just doesn't warrant being a show in and of itself. The character development is awful and unbelievable (save the Dann-o character), and the plots are far too simple.

My favorite Danno story was the one where some psycho went around murdering people based upon characters in a comic strip called Judy Moon, because he thought he was protecting her, so Danno had to go back into uniform while the cartoonist drew him in the comic strip, and they caught the psycho, and everyone lived happily ever after.

Believe it or not, CBS has gone ahead and asked for a full season of this show. It was one of the few that made it so far this Fall TV season.

The rest of the new shows got cancelled. So much for the state of TV today.

When I was little boy in Mexico, I used to love this tv show! I still love the them song, where the waves are breaking the catamarans are going right up to the beach, that was my first idea about Hawaii. RIP Danno! Book em up there in heaven too.

Have to say that MacArthur and Jack Lord both really nailed their roles in the series. Also, maybe the best opening title segment in TV history.

Sad news ; yes another good one gone from the 70's.....i m never convinced remaking stuff from 60's n 70's is the way to go.....its best to keep the meories as they were. Why cant people make new , original stuff? i dont tthink reflacts well on modern creativity to copy past successes.....Look at the Star wars remakes for a start? A shame ...

72 is very young. I wonder what TV in the Sky he is watching now. NCIS?

I can't believe Danno is gone. I always thought of him as the "young" one on that show. Man, we last-gen baby-boomers are getting on in years.

"The character development is awful and unbelievable (save the Dann-o character), and the plots are far too simple."

Which makes it just like the original series. Haha. Ok. 5-0 was maybe a little better, but that late 60s to mid 70s police show tsunami was amazing. Dragnet, Adam 12, Police Story, Columbo, Mcmillan and wife, McCloud, Streets of SF, Kojak, Starsky, Police Woman, Mod Squad, Charlies Hooters, and about 30 others I can't rattle off. Boy did they recycle plots. And they just churned that stuff out. 287 episodes of Hawaii five oh. Unbelievable. Astounding. What percentage of those were just awful?

But you know GJ has a good point. Every memorable show had one or two good characters, and the rest were usually mediocre at best. Lord and MacArthur made that show.

Like a lot of the better actors, they became so closely associated with the show that they could not move on. Sometimes it was the people in smaller roles who were able to move on to bigger and better things, as MacArthur did from his Gunsmoke experience.

I am the only guy here who will say that I most enjoyed him in Swiss Family Robinson... just... did ... that's all.

RIP, Mr. MacArthur. Loved that show! Jack Lord was my favorite TV actor and James MacArthur was right up there. I watched the show because of them. Soon there won't be any great ones left.

i always thought Wo FAt was much cooler than the cops.

I loved Swiss Family Robinson. However I have to say, until today, I always thought that he was the guy who played Riff in West Side Story. Not sure how I made that connection. Think I watched only a few of the Hawaii Five-O episodes. I was much more interested in watching Magnum PI then reruns...
