Sarge. Yes, the silence of the global warming propagandists is deafening. This winter is the second coldest on record, following last year`s. There is much more evidence for global cooling than global warming. The "scientists" have egg on their faces - or should I say snow and ice??

They stopped calling it global warming when they found some people had the unrealistic and simplistic notion that it simply meant everything everywhere was getting uniformly warmer, like water boils if you put it on the gas ring. Overall the global temperature is rising, and that causes changes in established air flows, ocean currents and other stuff that even the scientists can't reliably predict and that leads to extreme weather; blazing summers yes, but also freezing winters, floods where it's normally dry, drought where rains could normally be expected, storms where storms aren't expected, stronger storms where they are expected and huge dumps of snow where normally you'd have no snow or only a light sprinkling. Also no snow where you would expect it. I understand Japanese ski slopes have had a pretty iffy start to the season.

No, they stopped calling it "global warming" when the cooling became too obvious. Now they calling it climate "change". Please tell us, when in the history of the planet did the climate not change? I am all ears.

So how much has the globe cooled this year? I'st interesting when people get localised changes against the trend the short sighted simply forget the last thirty years.

actually this is about climate change, as there is more moisture in the air thus more snow than average. Media failed science class over and over. The term is climate change since climate is not the same as weather. It's December so those weather patterns are still going to be producing snow at 0 to -4 or so. With so much more moisture though the result is obvious.

Go back to your Faux News, it's not like you're involved in any solutions or re-invention in your life anyway.

People always say it's global warming in the summer and global cooling in the winter. So what if it's the hottest summer or coolest winter on record. What matters is the average for the whole year - the hottest summer or coolest winter could be outweighed by the temperatures of the other seasons. It's not the extremes that matter; it's the average for the year as a whole.

I am not surprised that Europe is getting colder winters. That was one of the predictions for europe in the global warming/climate change prediction.

The warm water current that provides most of europe with milder winters is changing course(as predicted) so less warm air is coming into europe.

That is one thing that many people didn't get that the 1st signs of global warming are changing weather patterns as the local climates change and readjust. Some will get warmer and others cooler.

Just my 2 cents worth of thought.

Zenny1, There are some who predict a new ice age within the next 50 years in Northern Europe as the Gulf Jet stream stops. This would cause massive climate change worldwide as the stream heats and cools different parts of the world.

Bit worried about this today personally as my elderly father has just had a water pipe burst in his house and has to wait for a plumber until 8am without central heating.

I think ice-age is a bit extreme, but yes it would be a major worry.

It might make good headlines, but in the long run it matters little. What does matter is that extra snow in the wrong places further disrupts normal global weather patterns; flooding in normally dry places, drought in places that rely on seasonal water, changes in currents and winds. It's the 'one butterfly flapping its wings' on a huge scale.

It's not the extremes that matter

The extremes cause a lot of damage, though.

Dunno how would the climates change, as climatology is not my area of expertise. As far as I'm concerned, I'm just looking for the raw data of temperatures and what's the trend (there's always a trend - change is the only constant on Earth). I leave the rest to experts.
