Thanks to pUTIN.

That’s of no use at all and doesn’t make any sense. A cheap fence will do there, and the rest of the money spent for repairing already existing damages to societies and spending for own population. If you had in your home a massive water damage in kitchen and bathroom and it also heavily rains in through all open doors and windows, would you first buy expensive umbrellas? lol

Thanks to pUTIN.
Open your eyes.

is that Ukraine figure their own money or is that them spending the money all the other countries gave them?

And all it took was an invasion by Russia of a peaceful neighbor and an arms race perpetuated by China.
China and Russia want to displace the US and the status quo and replace it with iron control over world institutions and all nations so they can rule unchallenged.
The world can see the danger and have taken steps to work together to oppose attempts by these rogue nations to destroy what has been built and replace it with the oppression they display towards their own populations, exporting it to the world.
NO THANKS. I prefer the status quo as is until something better is built with consensus, rather than fall backwards to having no choices and no freedom thanks to two or three individuals who rule for life.

So Australia spends almost as much on it's military as Japan?????
PTownsend
Warmongering is expensive after all.
Sven
That's nice but the economic realities and material conditions don't care what you prefer. The US Empire is going down. Very, very quickly. A really spectacular failure considering where it was in the spring of 1945 solely because the Soviet Union and major European powers destroyed each other. It's just a question of whether they'll start a nuclear war. Trump won't but others in the US gov...... Biden, Rubio, Lindsey Graham, AOC, Blinken are all very dangerous lunatics.

@PT. In terms per population, the following countries: Japan,South Korea,Australia and India were extremely militaristic, they possessed major threats in Asia. And Japan, India never signed the NPT, they were local instability makers!

Thanks to the Clintons,Bush jr.,Obama/Biden... The NATO eastwards expansion caused the Ukraine war and global tension in Europe and Asia.Their military industry has great influence in the administration of America!

Simply a failure of global proportions. Our peaceful, utopian Star Trek future is no closer now than at the end of the Cold War.
RKL
Right.
japancat
It ok though....its all taxpayers money.
UChosePoorly
We'll get there yet, but even the Star Trek universe had the 'Atomic Wars' in this century or the next, if I recall. Humanity may still have some hard lessons to learn unfortunately.

That combined with the US having a president 2016-2020 who practically tore NATO apart, and divided the country on political lines giving the perception of weakness.

Total nonsense. NATO doesn't "expand" the way Russia is "expanding" into Ukraine. Nations must apply for membership, meet political requirements, and be accepted by all the other members.
Not to mention that Ukraine is not a NATO member, and had not applied in February 2022.

Back in 2018, Macron was pushing for a new European force

You have Russia's naked aggression against what had been a peaceful neighbor to thank for that.
Russia . . . making the world a less peaceful and less hospitable place to live.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Considering the US has to reach to the other side of the planet to throw Russia and China back, I think our spending is reasonable.
EFD
Just think how much more the Russians would have had to spend if they had installed damage control systems on their ships or blowout panels on their tanks?
But this defense spending is necessary on the part of Western Democracies to deter an expansionist Russia and China.
We should have spent more, earlier and maybe, just maybe we wouldn't be in such an unstable geopolitical period.
Thunderbird2
I wonder why... hmm...
TaiwanIsNotChina
Nope, still Putin's war.
Clay
Also, worth noting countries like China, NK and Iran getting military weapons and technological WINDFALL PROFIT, no need to pursue expensive and time-consuming R&D!
lincolnman
Well done Mr Putin (in just this one aspect)....
You have re-energized NATO - and woke up the Europeans to the fact that you and your criminal cabal of oligarchs are not statesmen, but autocratic tyrants who belligerently invaded another sovereign country...
You've validated all the former Soviet Republics who were telling a skeptical Europe that "you can never trust the Russians"...
You broke the hold Finland and Sweden had on their neutrality, adding one million more troops and sophisticated weaponry to NATO...
You further helped your BFF Trump to be labeled a far-right extremist and discarded to the dustbin of history by him calling you a "genius"...
Met all your goals before you started your war, right?
Clay
Posted obvious effect of massive % increases in Japanese military spending, huge increases in deficit spending/money printing, that drives INFLATION and Yen weakness.
Same applies to EU, UK, USA, etc. major cause of global inflation, some consider it the #1 cause, is this unfunded military spending that relies on money printing.
stormcrow
A blood thirsty monster has invaded Ukraine. We haven’t seen this kind of naked aggression since Hitler.
Forewarned is forearmed.

What's also different THIS time with such historical 'Defense' Spending you ask?
The Great Powers (US, China and Russia) are utilizing various partners to project their power, far more than anytime in modern history. It's equivalent of corporations outsourcing if you will. Much easier to keep your hands clean. We've all heard of the Wagner group, Mercenaries supporting Russia across world AND in Ukraine for example.
Believe I also noted that many of these great powers' partners, for example NK, now have the benefit of state of art weaponry. JT has often covered just this YEAR, such advanced N. Korean testing of new weapons capabilities.
Countries like Japan, have to SPEND bigtime to respond to these increased military threat levels, that NK and China now possess due to their now enhanced Russian 'axis'.
Clay
Encourage you to read about true and HIDDEN costs of war in well written article below.
Clay
Clear 'incremental' budget cost in case of US military budget's Ukraine.
This cost ignores all US manpower costs to support UA like logistics, supply, training, utilization of expensive military assets like satellites etc.
Naturally, US has to embed many of its people everywhere, compliance, auditing, risk mgmt., intel, etc. It's all rather insane and of course US objectives are built-in, whether military, economic, geo-political, national security etc.
However, BY FAR greatest costs remain 'collateral' in nature, especially weapons proliferation, incremental inflation and starvation but this list is far longer as well.
Again, below GREAT insight into OTHER WAR COSTS like corruption etc.
Mr Kipling
Just remember how much the US spent in Afghanistan against an enemy wearing sandals and driving Toyota pick ups. Yet they still lost.
falseflagsteve
Mr Kipling
Too right there. Money don’t buy you love or win you wars as Mr Zelensky is currently finding out.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Nobody believes the Afghan war is a conventional war like the invasion of Kiev, which Russia lost.
TaiwanIsNotChina
That's a nice list you got there. Unfortunately only Gulf War 2 was illegal and many of these didn't even involve the US directly. And btw, the US didn't run away with free territory after any of these.
