If this DOES pass and abortion becomes nearly unobtainable for a majority of women in America

ROFL really how? I mean considering already the federal law states that public funds can't be used to pay for an abortion unless it is incest, rape, and or the mother's life is in danger. Stop spreading lies and hyperbole.

We got a compromise. 60 votes. < :-)

Yelnats: Women's body, women's decision.

Should men be allowed to use that argument when deciding child support?

The right wingers and the Catholic Church won't be happy until abortion is completely unobtainable in any circumstance. THAT'S what this fight is about. Health care for every American is just a vehicle for them to push their anti-woman agenda. I'm surprised they haven't brought up the "immorality" of the birth control pill yet.

If this DOES pass and abortion becomes nearly unobtainable for a majority of women in America, I desperately hope they strike down the recent amendments to conscience clause laws. The ones that state a pharmacist has the right NOT to fill your b.c pill prescription if he has moral objections.

The religious right has no place deciding what I should do with my uterus and I am getting sick of them passing laws that directly affect my life in severely detrimental ways. Their actions are pathetically transparent. The abortion/contraception battles in America have little to do with babies and everything to do with control over a woman's body.

Things like this make me happy to be an ex-pat. The pill may be unpopular in Japan, but I can still get it here and if worse comes to worst, I can even get an abortion. It's sad when I hold more reproductive rights in a foreign country (as a foreign woman, of course, the situation would possibly be different were I Japanese) than in my own. My right over my body SHOULD be an absolute and it disgusts me to see neanderthals trying to yank my rights out from under my feet.

Abortion should be legal across the board for anyone wanting it, and if they cannot afford it, insurance should cover it period. Women's body, women's decision.

You do realize that the debate is over whether or not a government funded program should pay for an abortion. Abortion is already legal across the board, the issue that remains is who should pay for it, either she pays for out of her own pocket, has private insurance pay for it and or also have a government program pay for it. The issue here is that people don't want a government program/tax payer money paying for an abortion. If she wants an abortion that is fine but she will have to use her own money and or use a private insurance to pay for it.

I honestly don't understand why people think that this debate about abortion right now in this bill is about legality of it.

"Bush has nothing to do this bill..Thanks"

True, but the anti-"infantacide"-flat-earth-frothmongers do!

These fundamentalist "Pro-Life Hypocrites" don't think twice about signing off on mass murder elsewhere. Just wait until it's THEIR secretary/mistress, daughter or niece who needs an abortion, and that's when the "exceptions" will start to apply. The rules only apply to other people. These are the very same people who believed "Gawd" told Bush to start a war!

Bush has nothing to do this bill..Thanks.

they should remember that they work for the people." Have you seen the latest of what the bill is to include? And who is forcing who to pay?

" Once again Democracy at its best." You seen the latest polls?

They better pass it soon. Their jobs aren`t to continue delaying national health care and they should remember that they work for the people. Once again Democracy at its best.

skipthesong: Yelnats, you are correct that it is a woman's decision, but its also her responsibility to take precautions too. Why should you or I pay for it?

One way or another you are going to pay for it anyway. The abortion is the cheaper way out. Paying to raise and educate children is far more expensive.

Yeinats, abortion IS legal across the board. I support "right to choose" but where do we draw the line? Women have complete control/decision-making power as to if a baby is born or aborted and men are expected to be obedient and offer financial support. This is unfair in itself but to now say that a women's reproductive activity is a civic concern that requires tax support like keeping the electricity running or repaving streets with potholes is just too much.

its not an 'overhaul' unless its drastically different from the crap system in place now...try pulling out a dictionary once in a while

Yelnats, you are correct that it is a woman's decision, but its also her responsibility to take precautions too. Why should you or I pay for it? As for rape and incest, many of the states provide such measures free of charge. If a girl is underage, her parents should bear the burden.

On the flip, since you feel the way you do, you do know there are people in the current admin that are trying to push child birth limits, like China has... do you approve of telling a woman how many kids she should have??? There is a lot of movement on that right now.

As for your religious angle, you do realize that those you have supported in other posts highly disapprove of abortion? Do give us that sex, drugs, and rock and roll crap.. while I'll agree with the sex part, its the drugs and rock music that have made you blanquitos the nerds of the planet.

Abortion should be legal across the board for anyone wanting it, and if they cannot afford it, insurance should cover it period. Women's body, women's decision. How dare fat old men, busy body religious fanatics, and others try to control what is not theirs. Fundamental human right is to allow your body to do what it wants, including drugs, sex and even rock n roll. Not allowed to eat raw eggs or undercooked meat? Well that is my own decision too. Busy bodies should take a hike to like NK and live there for a while and then come back to your happy lala life as a changed person.

Nebraska is a "deep red" state in which virtually every major state and federal representative has a (R) by their name. As such, he has to be very mindful of what Nebraskans think, if he's going to remain a Senator. He is considered to be a very moderate Democrat with a 28/100 "liberal" and 25/100 "conservative" rating. This makes him a "swing voter" in the Senate. He's going to be around for at least three more years, so Democrats can't afford to permanently alienate him, because he could change parties and continue winning reelections without DNC support.

"“Allowing this effort to fall short now would be a colossal blunder, both politically for our party and, far more important, for the physical, fiscal, and economic health of our country,” he said in a statement in which he alluded to his own failed effort to remake health care in the 1990s."

Yep. How did it ever get to this stage? I am ... ahem... critical of Obama for trying to compromise despite his mandate and overwhelming numbers. He should have given Pelosi carte blanche and spent his time doing something else. The US will wind up with a crummy program that pleases nobody and hands out ridiculous incentives to vested interests. He should have done it his way in a "buck stops here" spirit. Instead, this failed bill will have no father, like the Bay of Pigs Invasion.

No matter what the outcome, it will not come close to what Japan had three decades ago. America is falling behind and it appears as though it likes it that way.

Nelson is just trying to make a name for himself and getting slid a few $Million in campaign funds from the insurance companies.

In the south he's called a Dixiecrat. A republican in democrat's clothing.

I've worked for people in my days as a letter composer for congressional investigations. No matter how you write something or rewrite it, it's never correct. Then write it his way and it's still wrong. < :-)
