O'Hare at Christmas in the best of times is a mad house. Throw in a bomb cyclone and it must be the stuff of nightmares.

Every hotel within a 50 mile radius booked solid if you can even get there.

I am SO glad I am not there now. When I transit through, I usually book (or have the booking ap open on the phone) a hotel just to be sure.

The Airport Hilton is expensive but the walk across the lot and into the hotel makes it all worthwhile.

I've flown via Chicago a number of times and this time of year it is crazy to say the least. Even worse with all these people jammed and stranded at these hubs like Chicago, SLC, Seattle, SFO and more - that means superspreader. And there's a new Covid strain in India to be concerned about. God help these folks.

And there's a new Covid strain in India to be concerned about.

That new strain is the Omicron BF.7 that has been just released out of China. I saw on the news this morning that India is considering requiring masks and other restrictions again and denying fights from China.

That is also why the Japanese diplomat will not be visiting China soon because they will unleashing another pandemic.

It seems they have these "once in a generation" storms every year now, setting new records all the time.

The temperature of the earth is increasing!

which somehow leads to both record hot -and- record cold.

There's an old joke: "There are two kinds of people in the world. Those who understand the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics and those who don't."

Increased warming creates weather extremes.

Chicago, Christmas and a huge snowstorm. How come I can't help thinking about "Home Alone" movies O_O

Fond memories of Concourse C and Chicago O'Hcare. One flight arrived at Concourse B and my connecting flight was departing in half an hour from Concourse C at the exact opposite end from where the shuttle bus from Concourse B arrives (ATS was closed for refurbishment naturally). This bus went from Gate B1 to Gate C1, but my connecting flight departed from C27 or C29. Concourse C has to be half a mile or more long and I ran the full length with luggage. I was doing a full body sweat when I sat down in my seat, but I made it!

Chicago, Christmas and a huge snowstorm.

Chicago is such an important hub in the US. So many times I've had transcontinental flights diverted and/or delayed due to bad weather activity in the Windy City. One time it caused tremendous delays for me and several others. During that time, I conversed with a Jordanian traveler. He had flights to Chicago, NYC, Paris, Rome, Athens, home set up and now because of this he had to reschedule all his subsequent flights and hotel bookings all over again. Talk about a major pain in the derriere!
