with judges expected to rule by the end of the week

With judges expected to parrot by the end of the week the conviction that has already been pre-determined by the Emperor, in flagrant contravention of the Sino-British Joint Declaration.

RIP Hong Kong :(

the U.S. and the UK made irresponsible remarks and that go against international law

Maybe Chinese officials really don't understand what law is, especially international law, if they believe this. But I don't think they do believe it. It is partly a projection onto others of what they routinely do - violate international law - and a childish attempt to keep others on the back foot but it also reveals that they or their minions should not be standing in judgement on anyone at all if they are prepared to distort to such a degree. Well, we know Lai won't get a fair trial. I feel sorry for him. I just really wonder about the members of the judiciary now. How do they live with themselves now they have transitioned to prosecuting on behalf of a total autocratic ignoramus? Presumably they once used to believe in the law and a freer judiciary.

What a waste of time. It's already been decided

The only goal of the trial is to show everybody in China they have no rights except those of working, paying taxes, obeying to authorities.
