Boycott China. Do not buy their products.

hong kong police have become scum- same as the mainlanders.

27 ( +30 / -3 )

China is currently remolding Hong Kong in its own authoritarian image.

I'd say its pretty much a done deal at this point

24 ( +26 / -2 )

It’s obviously lost to the CCP, so fight for yourself, not for HongKong. Who can, should leave quickly.

21 ( +22 / -1 )

It must be just like living in George Orwell's book 1984.

Sad.

15 ( +20 / -5 )

A country that actively stops the remembering of a national tragedy and arrests those who conduct remembrance in honor of the dead.

Such a government can NEVER be trusted to do the right thing and must ALWAYS be resisted in all ways possible. It can never be allowed to have influence in the world at large. It's leadership has warped morals and sets a disgusting example for the world.

23 ( +26 / -3 )

Sickening.

China is currently remolding Hong Kong in its own authoritarian image.

Wrong. Hong Kong is already an authoritarian a police state. Zero freedoms. Zero human rights. Terror on the streets. People arrested and taken away, never to be heard from again.

The leaders, police and public servants in HK are ALL corrupt communist puppets.

Boycott police state sewer Hong Kong.

Boycott Communist China.

Boycott the Genocide Games 2022.

Outsiders should leave Hong Kong alone.

Let Beijing deal with its family matters..

Outsiders should leave Hong Kong alone.

Let Beijing deal with its family matters..

And Beijing should leave the South China sea's alone. Let the nations that actually live there control their own territory.

But what are the chances of that happening?

26 ( +30 / -4 )

Boycott China. Do not buy their products.

Hard to do since so many countries have deserted their workers and factories and handed off manufacturing to China so they could reap more profits.

It's the companies who have done this, not the consumer. It does not good for the consumer to boycott because so few will do it and companies don't care what consumers think anymore.

One day what China did to Hong Kong will bite them in oshiri.

13 ( +15 / -2 )

I expect we'll see an exodus of the corporate regional business centres from Hong Kong in the future, as they will just find it impossible to work there.

Singapore and the Philippines with their skilled and English speaking workforces may prove possible options, Thailand, Malaysia, Korea, less so; Taiwan, even more problematical; but Japan may miss out on this as it is just not flexible and open enough, despite periodic considerations and discussions on making it attractive to overseas businesses. Financial transactions; Import/ Export bureaucracy; personnel expenses, Tokyo-centric mentality and other issues just turn companies off.

Missed chances...

Freedom of Expression in China: A Privilege, Not a Right

4 ( +8 / -4 )

Wherever the values of democracy are threatened it is a defeat for the humankind as whole and a step back to dark ages.

Unfortunately the government of China is so viciously corrupted and arrogant that it doesn't care about the international community anymore.

This situation is extremely preoccupying and brings enormous pain to the people of Honk Kong and all the other provinces and nations under China's influence.

Just one more Trump foreign policy disaster....

And if you want to boycott Chinese-made products, don't shop at the Trumpstore.com...

Freedom of Expression in China: A Privilege, Not a Right

No the right exists. As long as it's in accordance with the CCP.

2 ( +9 / -7 )

Banning the vigil is not going to make people forget. And not for nothing, I would gather anyway and risk prison, but that is just me.

(Full disclosure: I am safely in Tokyo and fully realize that it is not my liberty that is on the line here. )

Due to complicated corporate supply chain policies, it's impossible to not buy 'made in China'. You may not even realize that it was made in China due to multiple components, etc.

When air travel resumes, boycotting personal trips to HK, Macau, and mainland China can have an effect with loss of tourism revenue.

But until the Chinese realize that people being targeted by the CCP for whatever reason they deem fit, are not subversives or trouble makers but just regular Chinese like themselves who simply want to have freedom of expression as an undeniable human right, it'll only get worse. Seems the majority of Chinese are sheep who just go along with whatever the CCP says and does out of some misguided, ignorant sense of patriotism.

So let me get this straight,

you disagree with events! But can’t voice them, .so you want to leave can’t do that?

it must be mentally destructive to be under this kind of surveillance. And it’s been made obvious most people are in fear or what’s happening. Nice job CCP. A brand New Re-Education Island.

Agree, but a Russian foretold a dystopian future even earlier than Orwell.

Time to go and be gone! That alliance had been stirring social confrontations for 30 years and they need to be under control!

That organization had using unprofound excuses and manipulated untrue information to make social disorder!

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

True. It's hard to really boycott China, but we could also boycott the Olympic games and encourage others to do the same.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

It’s going to be great when all the countries in the world just decide to default on all their loans from China and they will collapse.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

This sort of repressive behaviour seems to be inspiring the Australian cops right now.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

The government is punishing people that hold a vigil for people that they in fact massacred. Think about that!

Next time you buy something from China, stop and consider if you really want to give those kind of people your money.

Boycott China, stop the repression and genocide.

Boycott the Genocide Games 2022!

Boycott vile China!

"Freedom of Expression in China: A Privilege, Not a Right"

That's why all JT China lovers prefer to live in Japan.

HK people are so naive. They should have know this would eventually happen when they first started the democracy movement. Ever heard about slowly boiling a frog alive? This is exactly that. No matter what they do, everything is slowly being recorded and kept under surveillance by CN. No outside nation can ever intervene no matter how much complains they log, because they are afraid of a real conflict with CN. All CN had to do is slowly crack down on everything bit by bit. They cannot escape. Government do not forget. They merely pospone their punishment and slowly wait for the right timing to break you.

Even if you leave HK, you actually doing CN a favor because that allow them to assimilate HK faster and then they will go after you. Just because you think you manage to leave HK doesn't mean you have escape too. You merely delay it but your name is already on their list.

Boycott China. Do not buy their products.

Clearly you don’t know how every country in the world relies on China for more than 50% of products! Without products from China there would be mass shortages and certain industries will just collapse! It’s easier to sit behind a computer or cellphone and type boycott China rather than realizing the actual dynamics of trading, logistics, export, import, oh and above all the money that countries borrow from China ( US owes China so much in loans )! Any type of trade war with China is near impossible as most Chinese will survive on bare minimum ( like slaves ) but most people from other countries can’t. We have got too used to the comforts of life and take this for granted. In the end the people in other countries will blame their own Government as the economy collapses and China will have the last laugh! Just watch the economic downfall of Australia in the next few months as they tried to pick a fight with China ( failing to realize that only China will buy their products in such huge quantities due to its population size ). The farmers are suffering as China has banned Australian barley, beef and wine! Same thing with Trumps war with China where American farmers suffered while his own MAGA products and the entire Ivanka product line were all made in China and shipped to the US without any restrictions! But I guess idiots will never realize that the Chinese cannot be ignored!

@jim

You shouldn’t speculate that people who support boycotting China do not understand how trade works.

I feel like many people share your attitude, but it’s also a lazy and complicit one and the results will in time negatively impact the rest of the world.

Consumers boycotting Chinese made products has forced some companies to shift their supply chains to other countries (that don’t practice genocide) to meet their consumers demands.

The more this happens, the more isolated China becomes and will ultimately buckle to collapse or have to stop their genocide.

Our wallets are our most powerful weapon, because politicians only care about money.

They all knew this would happen but they went ahead and had their vigil anyway.

Bunch of buffoons.

Hong Kong trying to have a civil war is ridiculous.

Next will be the take back of Macau.

Iam not defending China .

Just saying.

Bunch of buffoons.

Have there ever been any bigger buffoons in history than people protesting for their freedom and independence? Talk about pathetic people. They should just accede to China and stop thinking about stupid things like freedom, right?

...right?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

When is Macau and Taiwan?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

They went ahead and had their vigil anyway. Bunch of buffoons.

Vocabulary [dot] com defines a buffoon as someone whose ridiculous behavior is a source of amusement to others. Wiki tells us that a buffoon is someone who provides amusement through inappropriate appearance or behavior.

There is really nothing amusing at all about what is happing in Hong Kong these days. Nothing! Particularly to its miserable inhabitants who care a wit about human rights.

A country that actively stops the remembering of a national tragedy and arrests those who conduct remembrance in honor of the dead.

Unfortunately I will never be able to forget the images I saw that had been shown on Japanese TV the night Deng unleashed the ugly might of his brutal forces on unarmed individuals. It was a blood bath, body parts strewn about.

Deng later claimed it was 'painful', no doubt for his fellow citizens whose bodies were chopped up. But not for him and other Chinese leaders who were able to carry on and get richer through the system of authoritarian capitalism they established.

Chinese leaders throughout history have led programs where huge numbers of Chinese citizens have been harmed by the state. I expect even more to happen as long as there is such a huge gap between members of the CCP and the general population. China is Communist in name only, the current system is closer to fascism. It is currently governed by a totalitarian regime, as terrible to its own people as any in history. Rivaling the era of Mao and his Cultural Revolution, when nearly 290, 000 Chinese were arrested or killed. Xi's name can be added to a list of modern history's most brutal leaders which includes Mao, Stalin and Hitler. And still there are anti-democracy/pro-authoritarian movements today claiming that kind of 'strong' leader is needed.
